I bought these boots in July and initially I was very pleased with the comfort and fit. Unfortunately I have noticed that they are starting to wear on the outer sole on the heel. I'm not a big mileage walker and use them mainly on trails and pavement's when walking the dog so I'm disappointed by the premature failure of these boots. I've had several pairs of speedcross trail running shoes and most of my running shoes last over 500K where these boot's have barely done 200K

Love the look of the boot but the way the toe bends/creases when you walks hurt beyond belief and doesn't work for me. I wish it was lower like my other Salomon boots but unfortunately it's not.

X Ultra 3 was the first pair of serious hiking boots I ever got, and wow was I impressed. I was hopeful for the same experience with this newer model but I was very disappointed. The "mid" doesn't come up nearly as high, leaving more of my ankles vulnerable to stickers, and after taking a few steps, the top of the shoe caved inwards and pinched the top of my feet. I don't know the measurements of the 3 vs 4, but I'd swear the toe box shrank too. I ended up returning and got another new pair of X Ultra 3 in hopes things will be better next year in production quality.

I bought the green and they look mint. I've genuinely only tried these on my feet to make sure they fit.. I've got a really narrow foot, I've got plenty of room in the tow box, plenty of room in the heel but mid foot where the arch in is so slim it's a joke. The right foot feels acceptable but it only acceptable the left foot I genuinely can't move a mm the outside of my foot it locked down and clamped in by the pants band they have put in that's supposed to help lock your feet in well it's uncomfortable and I get a good amount of heel lift still so I'd say an utter fail of a design all round. I've come from the x ultra 3 they were a mile better but the stitching failed so these are actually a warranty claim. I'd honestly put your money to a completely different brand. Don't waste your time or money

I am a big fan of the prior model, the Ultra 3 GTX. I was hopeful the Ultra 4 would be as good or better, but I was sorely disappointed. Salomon has switched factories from Vietnam to Cambodiaand quality has suffered. Straight out of the box, the plastic decal on the tongue of the new boot was not fully attached. This light-weight, low-quality plastic decal contrasted to the heavy, sewn on protector on the earlier Ultra 3 (see photo). I thought I would snip it off with a pair of scissors and tried a quick walk in the Ultra 4. I only got a few yards when I noted the bend where the shoe flexes in front dug uncomfortably into my big toe. It felt like being repeatedly poked in the toe with a stick. I never experienced this with the Ultra 3 or any other shoe. There is no way the Ultra 4 will be a comfortable and reliable hiker like the prior model, and I am disappointed to have to shop for a new model shoe.

It may sound like a mashup of design trends for bras and menstrual pads, but "ActiveSupport Wings" are something far worse: a new innovation in foot torture from Salomon - little plastic tabs on the outside of the shoe that cut into your feet and make you miserable. Prior iterations of the Ultra 4 Mid GTX were as close to perfection as any footwear has ever attained. Pity the 2022 designers couldn't leave well enough alone, but that's designers for you, always looking for a new gimick, never able to honestly acknowledge that maybe their special sauce isn't what anyone actually wanted or needed.

I have sandals that are more waterproof than these. Soaking wet feet walking through wet grass that wasn't even very long. Same again when I wore them in the rain. I thought Salomon were a good brand and believed them when they claimed them to be waterproof. Bad choice!!

I got these as a warranty replacement for some wide X Ultra 3's. I've been wearing and raving about the x ultra 3 for 7-8 years. I've gone through a few pairs and they were all I could ask for in a waterproof hiking shoe. The X Ultra 4 pales in comparison. It's not comfortable and not supportive. The only positive is that the 4 is lighter, which is actually a negative because they removed all the fabric/material that made the shoes comfortable and supportive. I work in a ski shop that sells Salomon and I will no longer be recommending their shoes to anyone as Salomon obviously doesn't care about making quality shoes anymore. So disappointing. You guys lost a loyal customer and advocate.

Bought these boots in May of 2021 after a couple hikes the seems started to fray. After one year the gore-Tex lining was leaking, after 16 months the boots are totally useless in wet conditions. Not my first pair of Salomon's , and loved the comfort out of the box, but the quality of these boots is poor.

After about 15 hours of hiking, the glue started to separate from inner sole and outer sole making a popping sound when walking. contacted company direct chat. They had no idea what I was talking about and left it to that.
I'd also recommend:
Keens and Merrell's.

When used on a hiking trail, the back two sides of the sole catch roots and rocks and end up peeling off and becoming even more snaggy. Really distressing considering the price paid and the little use before the problem started!

Just as others mentioned here the underneath of this boots cause huge pain. This was my second pair of these boots, the first ones were really good I walked and used them very, very much no break in was needed. When they finally came to an end was indecise about my next pair and having had these and happy with them got them again. This time a difrent story. Underneath the right foot they cause immense pain, cant have them on for more then a couple of hours, even though I use them just like I used the first pair same number, same model, same colour and same socks. Never experienced any issues before but now feel like a waist of money. At first though maybe a litle break in would help but after some time I must say somethingbis wrong with them. Went on an read some reviews and seems like otgers experiemced the same. In my case is on the right foot a small pain that after some time becomes dificult to handle. Seems like might be a quality issue as my first pair were great. Something that Solomon should be looking at going foward as might be affectingany of your customers.

I really want to love these, ive finally got the right size and after 3 days of wearing these I'm pretty choked to know I'm stuck with them, as the underside of one of the lace straps cuts into the inside of both my feet.

I ordered these for work as a K9 officer. The Ultra 3s were the best boots that ive worn in awhile so much so that I bought 2 pair. Figured these would be good as well and they're trash. No support, pressure in weird parts of side of my foot which cause pain, and the laces have already worn. Complete trash. Build the boot like the Ultra 3s. If it isn't broken don't try and fix it.

I have the privilege of testing and reviewing gear for a wide range of outdoor companies and decided to pick these boots up for a hiking I did in B.C. in October of 2021. I felt a slight discomfort on the inside of both ankles after wearing them around for a few days, however I figured I needed to break them in, as I do with most new footwear. The first two days of our trip, we put on about 30km, the discomfort was slight, however, on the third and fourth day, my ankles started to develop open wounds. I had to stop lacing the boots all the way to the top to relieve the pressure, which defeats the purpose of the boot and locking in your ankle for support, which was needed walking through the snow and ice in the mountains. There is minimal padding where your ankle is located and the only thing I can tell is that when the boots are tied up, the back of the upper most lace hook is digging in. Unfortunately, after reading reviews, I don't seem to be the only person who has struggled with this issue. I own many pairs of Solomon shoes, so I'm not sure if trying a different pair would have helped, but I can't recommend these boots.

I was hoping the updated version of the Ultra Mid would finally stop using leather, like the Salomon 'Out' lines, because this is a better looking shoe. When is Salomon going to make this line vegan?

I don't know who put the 'fits wide' tag on this boot, but they are very, very wrong! This boot is a full 3/8" narrower then my Merrell size 11 EE hiking boot!

Having had several pairs of this boots predecessor, I lumped for these as a replacement for some 3's with a manufacturing defect. Before I go any further, I'm just going to say, don't bother. These are right up there with the worst boots I've ever had (I'm ex military, so as you can imagine, I've got a fair amount of experience in this field...). I've had boots that cost a third of the price of these and have outperformed them in every way except grip (Salomon's contagrip is pretty good to be fair). Anyway, these destroyed my feet. I persevered thinking they needed breaking in but it just wasn't to be. After using Salomon for many years now, it's now time for me to seek another brand. Sorry Salomon, you lost a very loyal customer.
