I like everything about these hiking boots, but they are not waterproof. They are more water-resistant than my MOAB 3 hiking boots, which is why I bought them, but they are not waterproof. I bought the Salomon hiking boots on July 6, 2023, I've gone hiking with them five times, and the balls of my feet are always wet when I finish the hike. It fells like the boots are less water-resistant now than the first time I wore them.

I am a handyman, I am on my feet a lot and I need the flexibility of a light shoe. I like the shoe, but it is the only shoe I have EVER worn out in 2 months. The ball of my foot has no more traction and will open up shortly I expect the wear I saw would be very similar to hiking. By that math, about 45-60 hikes would ruin them.

These boots are very stylish and overall comfortable, but the ankle support is very poor (too loose). I don't see them as good for hiking which is what I bought them for. So I am returning them.

I have been looking so forward to buying a pair of Salomon hiking boot that when I finally got to buy them, I think it's created an ankle injury. My review doesn't really justify the boot. It felt great for a flat medium walk. When I went for a second long walk. It gave me a slight anklebone uncomfortable feeling. I've had to stop using the boots and I can't use my old boots now, because I have an ankle bone vein injury, I am sure the boot is fine and it will be amazing but unfortunately all I can say at the moment after two hikes with his boots Is that now I have an ankle bone vein injury please don't judge the boots by my review, I'm sure they are great , I am sure the boot is fine and it will be amazing but unfortunately all I can say at the moment after two hikes with these boots Is that now I have a ankle bone vein injury please don't judge boots by my review you'll have to buy and try for yourself.

The shoe looks great! However it is not comfortable like typical Salomon shoes.. the shoe feels like it lacks cushion and hurts to be in for several hours.

I bought these back in with in the past month. Tried on several times walking inside my house. I find them too narrow across the instep to the point I feel pressure on both sides of my feet while the heal slips. I thought after break in period they would become comfortable. Then I read other reviews and it seems other have same or simular complaints about pressure across the instep. Decided to return rather than take the risk they will not be wearable considering the price.

I'm a big Salomon fan and have owned many pairs of various models. These are the only ones that have been disappointing. The stiff support on the outside of the shoe (that goes up to that funky lace loop) digs into my foot and causes significant discomfort. I've swapped out the insoles for a pair that's thicker and they've become wearable, but I'd never hike in them.

There are a couple of things that would make this an outstanding boot. First, I am not sure what purpose the weird heel 'lip' cushion is for. It doesn't add any comfort or support. Instead, it just acts like a funnel for dirt. Same with the tongue. Whenever I tighten the laces, the tongue sticks out from my leg. Between the heel lip and the front tongue sticking out, my boots fill up with dirt/pine needles/snow every time I go hiking. PLEASE take off the heel lip and replace the tongue with something thinner so it stays inside the walls of the boot. Secondly, I feel like this boot needs one more set of lace hooks near the ankle. What would be even better is a pair of lace hooks that lock the lace in place at the bottom of the ankle. This small change would allow you to adjust the laces so much more precisely. Other than that, they are comfortable and waterproof. If Salomon made those two fixes, these boots would be 10/10.

I thought they would be true to fit. I have owned many pairs of Salomon shoes and have liked them. However, this pair is below average.

These shoes are not as comfortable as the previous generations. If you have been wearing the x ultra 3's just know these are a stiffer and thinner material. The older versions had way more cushion and felt like they wrapped and conformed around the shape of the foot. These shoes are more rigid and don't have that same compliance. I've had 2 pairs of ultra 3's over the last six years and wore them 90% of the year, those shoes were comfy. Lastly, the toebox on the 4s are a bit more roomy and I can feel the heal cups edges under the outside ankle and after a along day I start to feel the insole loose its cushion to a point I can almost feel the sole of the shoe. Now time will tell, I still need to fully break them in. But its not a great start. I was able to strap the ultra 3's on and go. With the ultra 4's it feels like I'm trying to make them work.

They are light weight, the insole is comfortable and I love the way they fit my feet overall, but they're not durable. I wore them for 1 winter and the lightweight "upper" materal developed a hole at the side, where the toes bend. Although the insole is nice, they should add plush cushioning under the foot. I would not buy this model until they change the upper material.

I have had these for a little less than a year. They are good shoes and feel like they are much better quality than the 3. The traction is much better and they have a little more room in the toe box which makes them more comfortable. I've had no problem going on multi day backpacking trips with them. My only complaint is that they are not waterproof. While they have GTX lining, after about a month of use and even after applying more DWR, they are no longer waterproof. Now, even if I walk across wet grass or pine needles my feet get wet. This was an issue I also noticed with the 3's and I was hoping it had been resolved in the redesign. Hiking shoes that are not waterproof in western Washington are less than ideal.

I love the style and they are extremely comfortable, warm and breathable. However, I have only warn these 3 or 4 times and the fabric is starting to crack and tear. Not very impressed considering the premium cost.

Wore X Ultra 4 Mid Gor-Tex boots for 3 weeks solid on a trip to Alaska. Feet stayed dry, good support and cushioning but the soles have very shallow lugs and the rubber compound would not stick to rocks, especially if wet. Wore sole lugs 1/2 way out in 3 weeks! Very poor traction, very disappointed! You'll end up on your butt!

I've had every incarnation of this boot but this new one seems to have great difficulties in wet conditions. I don't know if I got a boot from a bad batch but Everytime I've hiked with this in the wet I've slipped and fallen or almost fallen. I honestly will probably find new boots with a vibram tread because those always seem to do well in wet conditions. I almost cracked my head open on mountain and I practically had to crawl down because any wet surface was like a sheet of ice in these boots. Big let down because they're comfortable, light, and supportive. I had left a great review when I first purchased them but little did I know

I bought these less than a month ago and one of the shoes is already leaking water into my left toe area from just rain. Not worth the cost. Extremely disappointed in quality and durability for the price.

Had these less than 12 months with light walking and hiking. within a few months, theuppers split, meaning they let water in. Then the sole completely detached after less than a year. Really bad quality.

Returning item. I don't have a wide foot by any means but these boots are so narrow in the arches it's unbearable to wear for more than 5 min. Very disappointed with this purchase.

These boots look fantastic but that is the extent of the positives. They are not waterpoof even though they're Goretex lined, they have a very narrow mid sole which is expected of Salomons, the grip is non existent if you walk on anything other than concrete in the dry and the flex point on the toe box has torn after only 3 months use.

I bought these as I wanted a mid GTX pair of boots to go on the hills, i waked the dog around my local fields as after wearing them a couple of times I knew straightaway that they weren't up for the job of the hills, the outsole and midsole is wafer thin, I mean you can feel EVERY stone rock or tree root they're terrible, for me personally there is a total lack of structure around the heel and tongue area, they're are cut dar to low to be classed as a mid boot for me, the laces lasted 4 months before I had to replace them as the metal lace loops half way up the boot have to much of an edge and shredded the laces. I'm ex UK forces and I've had boots from almost every major brand and thought Id try Salomon and honestly wish I'd never bothered and will never purchase from this brand again. Cheapest nastiest boots I've ever had at a premium pricenot cheap at all. I wouldn't even leave a start rating, but you have to.
