I purchased these shoes for my wife. She has had four foot surgerys and couldn't find a shoe that didn't hurt was bothersome. I have two pairs of Altra shoes and love them. I just ordered hers and told her to try them! She wears them all the time and only takes the off to shower or sleep. She absolutely loves them. Thank you Altra!

I have narrow feet and am very limited in what shoes I can buy. My local running store suggested these. They are amazing for me. I appreciate that they made a slightly different fitting shoe. The toe box is narrower than most Altras, but wider than other shoes that fit my food. Also, so comfy! I will have many happy miles in them.

My favorite running shoe from Altra is the Torin, but after Altra sent me the new Rivera to try they are a now a close 2nd. I've been using the Rivera for my longer runs (5+ miles) the past few weeks and my feet are very happy! They are super comfortable. There was literally no "breaking in" period. Very responsive + light. Just the right amount of cushion.

I bought these shoes for walking and jogging. They are comfortable and have just the right amount of cushion--enough to feel comfy and supported, but not bulky or heavy. I was skeptical about them being "made for women's feet," but they actually do fit better than other shoes I've worn. The narrower heel makes a huge difference. Highly recommend!

Standing 12+ hours a day and these shoes keep my feet happy. I used to have squished toes and sore spots at the end of the day but now I have minimal pain after long hours.

I wasn't really sure what to expect when they arrived but as soon as I tried them on they felt pretty amazing! They are very light, comfortable & they give me the support I need for my feet. I took them out for a quick two mile run the first time, the next time I took them out for an 8 miler followed with a bike ride. The Riveras did not disappoint. I do recommend them.

Coming from a stability shoe, I was VERY cautious, and had no expectations.. but honestly LOVE this shoe! Great NEUTRAL shoe. Natural foot shape and comfy cushion in midsole felt great running, walking and cross training. If coming from a stability shoe with higher drop, I would suggest starting with a mile or 2 and allowing for your foot and muscles to adjust, and get used to the zero drop. I love wearing different shoes to keep the muscles in my foot guessing! The shoes are light with a breathable upper and I have LOVED logging some miles in the snow! I have kept my runs to 5 miles or less as I continue to adjust to the drop and avoid injury. Looking forward to some fun tempo runs and maybe even a 5K or 10k "race" in the future! Thanks Altra, for sending me the RIVERA to test out and review! Well exceeded my expectations. Full video review on my Instagram page

First shoe I've really felt comfortable wearing on my long walks since your Intuition. Glad to be back with Altra. I like the wide toe box and cushioning. I always wear a full size larger in my sneakers and wear a heavier sock than in a normal shoe, so when I say true to size it is relative to what I normally wear in a walking sneaker.

First run, I fell in love with the Rivera. Cushioned, but not too much and a very responsive ride. I'm ordering a second pair right away!

I inserted Sole orthotics and wore correct toes. The toebox has enough room and is comfortable. The uppper fabric allows for bunions etc. will see how it holds up

Long time fan of the Escalante and loving the more fitted feeling of the Rivera for training. My feet feel more secure and the EGO midsole is amazingly comfortable. Can't wait to race in these!

This shoe fits great for me because it has a high, deep toe box and is wide enough for my foot. It is most comfortable of all shoes I tried with cushy insole an my Powerstep Pinnacle insoles fit great in it too. The material is high quality and did not rub against my heel or ankles. The turquoise color is beautiful tho it does make my feet look bigger. The soles of the shoe are grippy not slippy and should have been Slate gray or black because they show every speck of dirt! I would have given shoe 5 * rating if it had dark sole and better color of shoe laces

i am a man with very narrow feet, and have worn women's shoes for about 6-7 years and am very happy with altra sizing. i have many chronic injuries and have been able to find only a few models that work well for me. instinct model 2 and 3. torin 3.5 (loved that shoe!! hope there will be a return of it in some form) and the escalante racer (the base model was too squishy). the everyday shoe worked but the clad did not. and the xt2 work kinda, but not an all day every for me. i tried the rivera without much faith it would work, based on the tread and that it looked like the torin 4 and 5 models with have too much play / too squishy. i was pleasantly surprised that the rivera does indeed work well for me and is stable/firm in the right ways for me. the only thing i don't like about it is the lower toe box volume, other than that it is a wonderful shoe.

I have worn Altras from the beginning, many different models. I have a wide foot, metatarsalgia and a bunion and I love to walk and hike for miles. The Rivera has a much narrower toe box and was a no-go for me. I’m sending them back. ??

Her first pair of Altras and they happen to be regular fit unlike Altras that I have. But I'll probably get her a different model for Mother's Day as she seems pretty happy with the brand. Good for her job, as she's on her feet all day.

I have wide feet and a high arch - I like some cushion when running on the roads and the Rivera does the job. It is flexible yet cushioned. Super lightweight and has some arch support. I like it.

I trained for Berlin in the Paradigm 6 (size 6.5) and the Rivera (size 7, Rose/Coral). Altra had a booth at the Berlin Marathon expo and thanks to the experts at the booth, I went with what I want in the cushioning. I chose the Rivera and these were perfect for Berlin. 6 weeks later I ran the NY Marathon in them and they were still perfect! The only feedback I have is that they do run small. Thanks for Altra's great customer service it was easy to make the perfect fit happen.

I wanted to love these shoes. Great toe box and overall fit is solid. Styling is 1980's dated (peach with navy?). The deal-breaker is that the arch support is non-existent. I didn't realize how much that would matter until I wore them a dozen times and now my feet hurt. These will be going to Goodwill.

The toe box is a bit higher and more narrow than the Escalante's. They are very comfortable and can be tightened well for numerous foot shapes.

I ordered these thinking they'd be pretty true to size, but definetly size up at least a 1/2 size!

I'm not a runner but a 75 yr old daily walker on roads, trails, hills. These have great padding and the men's shoe fit great because the women's were too narrow in the toe area. Marathon lacing snugs the shoe up perfect. Great padded tongue. Just returned the women's paradigm 5 as the fit didn't feel snug, my foot slipped around. The Rivera men's green was the closest feminine color. Yes, I too, would like to see more arch in Altra shoes.

Ordered Burgundy Size 8.5 W 2 months ago. Ordered Black Size 8.5 W that arrived yesterday. At least a 1/2 size difference with black being smaller. Previous reviewer said she bought black and burgundy at same time, and bought third pair in teal that were at least a 1/2 size too small. Love these shoes but would like to see Altra get this quality control issue addressed.

I am 50:50 about the Rivera.
Pro: I liked the lightweight. I liked that there was no break-in period for me. I like the padding in the tongue. My foot is a medium width, maybe a little towards the narrow side rather than wide. I would prefer they hug my foot a little more in the midfoot. The stack height and padding is between an Escalante and Torin and that is one aspect of this shoe that I find perfect for me. There's still some ground feel but not enough to cause problems with my heelspurs.
Con: I usually wear a 9.5 in all athletic shoes including Altra, but needed the turquoise rivera in a size 10, as it was about a 1/2 size short in the front. I think this shoe needs a bit more arch support. I wanted to get the white/coral but after seeing that bleeding color that happened to so many people, I am glad I didn't.
I am keeping the pair I bought, but probably won't buy the same model again and will wait for an update. It's a "decent" effort for a new model, but there are some kinks to work out IMHO.
