This shoe is very light and seems well made. The upper around the top of my foot felt very snug and warm after a few mins of just trying them on. The outer is wider than the upper on the shoe and gave me the feeling of the shoe feeling "clunky and big" when I walked. That being said, the cushion and support were good, the light weight nature of the shoe would make them a great trainer or tempo shoe. I would caution if you will be wearing them in hot temperatures to try them out first. I ended up returning them because they were just too snug across the top of my foot and too warm for my southern location. If they weren't so warm, I may have tried a size up and used them for a daily walking around and errands shoe because they look good (and in black color they go with a lot of things) and are probably comfortable for being on your feet all day.

First (and only and last) Hoka for me and it isn’t working out. The fit is fine, but I was looking for a tempo/ fast paced trainer for my show rotation and this isn’t it.
The cushioning isn’t responsive and it get no launch with my push off. I don’t understand the positive reviews for this shoe. It isn’t a tempo shoe and it isn’t soft enough for an easy day or a long run.
For as lightweight as these are, running in these feel like bricks. Of all the shoes I’ve run in, this give me the shortest stride length across all of the cadences I’ve tried.
They are comfortable for walking and daily use, so they’ll do for that, but after 100 miles, they are out of my running shoe rotation.

I was really excited to get these shoes. They have amazing reviews and wanted so badly for them to be comfort for my foot. Unfortunately, they do not offer support with my plantars fasciitis.

Runs very small & narrow. I can and do wear a size 14 in most shoes, I have the Rincon & CarbonX in 14s now, but this runs very small by at least a full size. It's also narrow much like the Rincon.
I was really excited to try this shoe after DGR gave it the Show of the Year but it's just way too small. Hope they make a 15 next time.

The the shoes are light and not that comfortable for my feet , I've try to push throw an easy 8 mile but couldn't wait to take it off . So far the best shoes for me are the cliffs 7 . Baleeedat

Initially I loved this shoe, but the last 2 runs I've been getting some aching in the balls of my feet. I'm gonna give it another week of running.

Out of the box they looked great. Fit well. Then I tried to walk and jog in place. Just felt the cushioning was extreme. And I felt like they had me lurching forward. As a tennis player I am used to a different gait pattern. May be perfect for some. Not for me however.

Because of my feet issues, and comparing them to the Bondi 7, which is, for me, the most comfortable shoes I own... I just don't get what I need from the Mach 4 for foot pain that I do with the Bondi 7. I like and wear them, but mainly for short term. I really like the Hoka brand and will continue to try different styles because it's not only great looking, but it's a high quality shoe, with great looks and more comfortable than any other shoes I've come across.

The shoes have been great for my knees but after only 68 miles of normal use the inside of the heel in one of the shoes is already breaking down and unfortunately I will need to return them. I'd like to recommend them to a friend but for the cost and how quickly my shoe has begun to break down that would be a big concern if I want to keep my friend as a friend.

This was a great feeling shoe. Good room in the toe box and midfoot. Just didn't find it to be very cushioned. Form You Tube videos I expected the Mach 4 to be closer to the Clifton in cushioning. It was a lot firmer. Size was good and shoe had good step in feel.

I enjoyed the lightweight feel and also the roomy toe box for my wide feet, but having a hard time adjusting to the stiffness and discomfort going on runs over 3 miles. My go to shoes are the Clifton 7 and the Speedgoats and was looking for something to help me push the extra mile on race days... For now these are tempo and am sticking to the Clifton and the endorphin speeds for race day and long runs

I really wanted to like this shoe more than I did. The tongue lockdown is great (recalls the EVO Speedgoat). The shoe is lightweight. The upper reminded me of the New Balance Beacon but with a better midsole underfoot. The midsole hits a sweet spot between the Clifton's soft cushion and the Rincon's firmness.
And yet . . . I couldn't quite figure out where to fit the Mach 4 into my shoe rotation. Not quite enough stack for me to serve as a daily trainer (like the Clifton 7) or beefy enough to serve as a long-run shoe. Not quite light/snappy enough to do speed / track work, as the fit wasn't quite "race-y" enough for me.
The Mach 4 is probably the roomiest / high volume Hoka I've ever tried -- perhaps closest to the Bondi in this regard. The materials of the upper feel great, and the heel counter is silky soft. I love the feel of the upper when holding it in my hand. But for a foot like mine that is already narrow and low in volume, there's just too much material around the midfoot and esp. the toebox. I had to cinch the laces so tight that the sides of the upper were almost touching each other, causing the toe box to puff up a bit. During fast runs, I felt my forefoot slipping around in the toe box, creating hot spots underfoot.
I waited months for this shoe's release, but I just couldn't make it work for my foot type. I had to return it in the end.

2 runs and horrible pain in calves and ankles. Never felt this pain with any other shoe. Sizing seems to run small. Was hoping that this would work for me, but not the case.

First time buying Hoka. Liked everything about it, good fit, good support . The reason for 2 overall rating is that the sole worn way to quickly. I think I noticed the wear within 4months (less than 30 miles). I have always worn New Balance 990 and on average get a minimum of one year (>75miles) before seeing noticeable sole wear.

These were great for about a week, but then the support was gone. The right side of my foot was falling off the shoe bed. They just didn’t hold up for me and were a big disappointment.

I made the mistake of purchasing my shoes online. Shoes were to small and the colors were horrible. What was represented on the website was vague and slightly misleading in regards to color. I chose my normal shoe size and that was not accurate according to the size of my last purchases of other brands.

Hoka shoes have always been extremely comfortable in the past and helped my feet with plantar fasciitis. This shoe has done the reverse. Disappointed with this model. I do like the look of the shoe just not the function.

Great looking shoe, however the lower and more neutral (and less shock absorption) is tearing in to my knees and hips. I would suggest their more traditional shoe.

Super comfortable running shoe but disappointed that after less than 200 miles the soles are showing extreme wear. Given the cost of these shoes you would hope that they lasted a little longer
