What's up with the weird heel that sticks out? I tripped down the stairs every time. Had to return them.

I've been using Clifton's size 12 for some time now so when I ordered the exact same shoe I was suprised they were more like 12 1/2 or 13. Because I have orthotics I was able to make them work. This has to be a problem with manufacturing particularly if you have multiple sources which introduce variation in the process.

Just got them in the mail, decided to do a quick 3 mile run.
First off they're comfortable walking around in. They're soft and plush so I may just use them for casual wear now.
Second, it felt like I was running in sand. Every stride was draining my legs. It slowed me down almost 30 seconds per mile.
They're not responsive like I hoped.
This is my first pair of Hoka's so I used the feature on here that helps pick the shoe for you.
For now I don't plan on running in these again. I may try to find a store in the future to try different styles on but I won't order online again.

I had the Clifton 7's before this and loved them. I got these thinking they might be a little more springy and speed focused as I ramp up my training for a half. Right away I had some fatigue and soreness on my right tibia as my gait adjusted to these. After ~20 miles my body adjusted and they're very comfortable. That being said, I haven't really noticed a difference in performance to justify the higher price. My biggest disappointment is the sole, it's all foam with no rubber. So after like 60 miles of road running they're worn smooth already. I'll probably go back to the standard Cliftons after these are completely cooked. I also get hot spots on the inside of my foot now which didn't happen in the Clifton 7.

I loved these shoes for the first ~150 miles, although the tread wore off much faster than I expected. I continued to run in them for another 100 miles, but they became increasingly uncomfortable and I eventually had to retire them at ~250 miles. For this price point, I would expect more durability.

Love the shoes but I can only run for 10k more than that blisters all the way, OK shoe.

I have purchase many pairs of Hokas in store and all have been amazing. This was the first online purchase and regret it. Shoe just fits weird. I wore it outside so I assume I can't exchange it?

Of course it's a nice looking shoe but it's so light weight that there is not enough support in the toe area.

I purchased a size 13 online without trying them on , and they run slightly larger . 12.5 would have been perfect. This sneaker was also bulky . I exchanged them for the new Clifton 8.

I walk about 4 miles a day at a 4.4mph pace. My right knee gave me a lot of pain prior to purchasing these shoes. I could feel a difference the first time I walked in them. I have put about 40 miles on these shoes and the sole is already smooth over the center of the sole. The sole is so soft that the durability of the sole is compromised. For the price, I would expect the sole to last for hundreds of miles. Improve the sole and you will have the best shoe I have ever worn.

I buy a few pairs of HOKAs every few months as I spend a lot of time on my feet as a swim coach. My personal favorite is the Bondi 7 series and to a smaller degree the Elevons. I bought the Clifton Edge for the looks, half-hoping that they'd be close in softness as the Bondi, because they look fantastic, but alas, they're considerably different. My concern for this shoe is that 3 weeks in, the bottom of the shoe has lost its traction (it's this cheap foam) and strands of fabric/cotton have gone rogue on the laces.
Overall, it's a good shoe at best, but despite it's price, there is little doubt that it's cheaper in quality. I wish this was my shoe, but I can't help shaking the feeling of being cheated or wanting a refund after 3 weeks of use.

I sent my first pair back in before 30 days due to the durability of the sole. The molded treads were worn out quick. Within the first week this was obvious on some parts. I also rotate my HOKA's, 4 other pairs. They really need reinforcement like the Clifton 7/8 sole that touches the road. With an improved sole rubber over the foam would make these my absolute favorite road shoe. I was in search for a road shoe like the Speed Goat 4's. This to me was the closest minus the durability factor. Now if you all ever take the Speed Goat and change the lugs to a road tread those will be perfect shoe for me. Call them the Road Goat or the Speed Goat Road Edition. Love your products and have tried several. I am grateful you do listen to your users. Pray you can improve on a great shoe and make it awesome. Aside from the durability issue so quick these would be a 5 star.

My go-to for long runs is Bondi, and Speedgoat for strictly trails. I got the Clifton Edge for faster paced runs and it works well for that. My nits are that the laces simply will not stay laced without double knotting or trying some knot other than a normal knot. Also, after roughly 50 miles, the outsole is wearing out very quickly, which is disappointing. Lastly, if you run on trails at all with these (to and from the pavement in my case), rocks get stuck very easily such that I have to spend a few minutes after each run removing them. Bottom line - they may work for some people but I don't plan on buying them again.

The cushion on the Clifton Edge looks great and is very stylish. However, it isn't all that soft underfoot. After wearing only 3 weeks, the cushion shows signs of wear. I love Hoka's and have multiple pairs from Bondi to Challenger. With the hard cushion you won't last long running. The extra heel cushion that extends makes it a little cumbersome to wear them as a general walk around shoe also. The Clifton Edge, at the same cost, or higher, over other shoes really isn't going to deliver the results you would expect.

I think these are good running shoes, and I like the colors I got...blue red gold. It will take some getting used to the gigantic size of the sole. Visually it looks a bit bonkers to me, but functionally they work well. I'm using them for my triathlon training and run about 3 times a week 4-10miles. I personally wouldn't wear these anywhere else besides during a run, due to the look of the shoe. I'll keep using them and see how their functionality does over time.

As said this is my favorite running shoe ever, but after a few weeks running 10 or so miles per week the heel has already lost some rubber. That's the only time I wear them. Happened with my last pair too and Hoka replaced them but not sure I can stick with the brand.

As a heavier runner (225lbs) these shoes felt great for my shorter runs, but on my 4 mile+ runs they felt very rigid. The soles after about 20miles already show wear vs my other running shoes with over 400miles do not. That concerns me for the long haul. Other than that these shoes may be great for some but at this price point they didn't totally blow me away.

Only ~20 miles and they're not very comfortable. But I am still eager see how it feels with the extended heel for heel striking. Runs feel okay, but my legs, specifically calfs, are pretty sore/tight after running in them, so, so far not great and a little disappointing, but these are my first hokas and i'm not completely turned away yet

First, I want to say I'm an avid runner. I also want to mention that Hoka has never really been my personal first choice in a shoe brand only because I have yet to find a model that's worked for me. Still being open-minded, I decided to try these bad boys out.
I normally wear a size 10 in a running shoe, but this shoe has ample length not only visually on the outside, but also the inside compartment for my feet. So a 9.5 was a great fit for me. A 10 would've just been overkill on the length. Another thing - I do not have wide feet at all. My feet compared to the average person are narrow, in my opinion.
I went to a local shop here in Austin, TX and I was able to try these shoes on as well as run a bit on the available treadmill. I'm surprised I didn't notice how narrow they were in store. With just a try-on and a quick jog on the treadmill, it really did seem to me that I've found my first model of Hoka's that could work for me.
So I purchased them and took them home. On my very first run of 7 miles, I had blisters on both feet, in places I've never had blisters ever before. I've been ultra running for 13 years and I wear Injinji toe socks.. which highly protect against blisters. I now had multiple blisters on both feet located on the outside of the balls of my feet, inside of the foot. I was in so much pain from just the one small run that I returned them immediately. I ended up purchasing New Balance 1080v11 and I was MUCH happier.

Fit was good perhaps a little on the wide side. The area around the front of the shoe gave way very easily which made the shoe feel a little wider. Loved the color, but the design of the shoe is such that the sole at the back of the shoe extends back further than any other shoe I have tried giving your feet an all shoe look. Did not care for that. I had to return the shoes.
