First impression walking around the house was good, size seems to be equivalent to other salomon shoes. I've now used these shoes for several short and long trips and have a few points to adress.
Firstly, The shoebox feels alot narrower as your feet expand during the hike. This feeling is enhanced by the fact that the material seems alot harder/tougher than what I'm used to. Usually one would loosen up the lacing over the foot but because of the speedlacing, loosing up the foot = loosing up the ancle which in turn means you lose any support and fit that the shoe would otherwise provide.
I've used the speedlacing before on lower shoes and I really do like it but this is the first time i've experienced it on mid shoe and it just isn't a good idea. The contruction of the shoe itself seems very good though . It's very lightwheight and the material seems very rough and sturdy. Your feet feel well protected.
If you're looking for a shoe intended for longer hikes, this probably isn't for you. Perhaps I'm not the target audience but having the name "hike" in the shoe does not give you the right idea of what the shoe is intended for. I will perhaps keep using it for shorter trips in the hills but I'd look for alternatives without the speedlacing if you're looking for a mid to high boot.

Ugh, hated the narrow "bite into your fingers" lacing system! Returned them.

The shoes fit well for the first hour of my hike but they were always coming loose especially going up hill. the traction is terrific but I wouldn't buy another pair unless the lace system was changed. Also when you tighten them there's no where to put excess lace which is very annoying. Overall not happy- haven't had these but a couple months and wore on 1 hike.

The quick tie system and laces were not practical and I could not tighten the boots enough to use them without my feet flipping. I really liked the boots not the tie system.

These shoes/boots were exactly what I was looking for. I needed something fairly light weight, good for fast hiking, provides good ankle support, and waterproof. I wanted something that feels like a trail runner but provides enough protection like a pair of hiking boots. The Salomon Cross Hike Mid ticked all the boxes. But, it was too good to be true.
It is fairly light weight. Fit and feel was great through out. Positive marks here.
The very thick and bulky cushioning in the heel area felt good when I tried the shoes on in the shop. But, that same cushion proved to be a serious drawback in hiking situations. The bulky heel pitches my feet forward creating a wired stride dynamics. The thick cushioning also creates a dead zone where you don't feel any response from your strides. It felt wired to me.
The lacing system renders ankle support (the mid design) obsolete. No matter how much you try, it is impossible to get a close fit around your ankle. Even if you lace up tight at the beginning, ankle area loosens up within the first 5 minutes. I have tried different lacing option without any improvement. A BIG negative for me. One of the main reasons for buying this pair was the ankle support. You get the bulk of the Mid design without any advantages. One drawback is that it collects all the trail debris along the way.
After only 9 months fairly light use, the top of the boot stars coming apart. Cracks and punctures started forming on the upper portion of the boot along the edges. No de-lamination at this point.
Love the color combination and the concept. I wish the heel design, ankle support, and durability factor were better.

I have only had these shoes for a few months now and every time I go out in the rain I end up getting wet feet. Also the right shoe instep has a crease when first worn, it does seem to straighten out once I have been walking for a while. I do walk an average of 5 miles a day with the dog.
I have had numerous Salomon shoes but they have never leaked like these do, not a happy bunny.

This is not a positive review. The company is Salomon. I have purchased hiking boots from them in the past. Those were nice. I am reviewing a pair of Cross Hike Mid Gore-Tex boots size 9.5. Overall construction looked good, a little flimsy with the material that covers the top of the foot. Grip on bottom seemed great.
The biggest problem of these boots are it's lacing system. It uses a pull tightening system with a very thin angel hair like string. Even with a good heft of pulling the string and locking it in place it felt loose on the foot. It definitely wouldn't last long out in the wilderness before needing to reapply a tightening to the lace system. Secondly, once you tighten this lace, you are left with an extremely long lace that hangs out over the boot and off to the side, which would definitely impede on your footsteps and in hiking, as this would produce a danger to getting it snagged on material resting on the ground, be it twig, rock, or root. There is a picture hanging on the tag, and Salomon's solution is to tuck the excess under the lace that is on top of the tongue of the boot. I question this. I tried it. It is not effective. I had them for a day, and they are now on their way back to Salomon. I feel like Salomon stopped making good boots 3 years ago. So much of what comes out now is either not functional or doesn't last. Thanks for reading this review.

Bought a pair jan 22nd, this is the only pair of Salomons I regret purchasing. The laces are way way too long and the tongue folds down after a very short while. Infuriating.

This is a great looking shoe the problem is that's all it was for me. It really has little to no ankle support and the water proofing really doesn't keep your feet completely dry. Right out of the box I ran them under the water in the bath to see how well the water proofing worked and it just seemed to seep in. Unfortunately I'm gonna have to return these. Love the look but not the practicality

I bought these 9 month ago and they are already falling apart at the seems therefore leaking everytime I walk through a puddle, not very good ankle support, and I don't mind the lacing system but I feel traditional laces give tighter support. Tried to post photos but won't seem to let me.

I've owned many pair of Salomon's trail running shoes and typically love the quick lace system. I wanted a similar pair of mid height waterproof for this winter. The boots are great, comfortable, and easy to slip on/off. However, after tightening the boot laces, the the laces gets stuck under the top eyelets. It is a bad re-design on the top eyelet. The simple nylon eyelets, like on all your low tp trail runners and the lower eyelets on this boot would have worked perfectly fine. I'm in process of returning them and have just ordered a pair of the "XA Forces Mid". We'll see.....

Comfortable lightweight hiking boots but the Quicklace system is a deal breaker and they're going back. They loosen up constantly and it's a tedious and time consuming process to retighten. You have to stuff the excess cord into the flaring tongue and then pull it back out to tighten. Why would Salomon use such a silly system on an otherwise decent product? I found I preferred my old Danners with regular laces while the new Salomon Crosshikes sat in my closet. In addition, the tongue flares out and traps debris or catches my pants leg. Silly design.

Comfortable out of the box but the Quicklace system is a deal breaker and they're going back. They loosen constantly and I need to fuss around stuffing the extra cord back into the tongue. I found I stopped wearing them due to this problem in favor of an old pair of Danners with regular laces. Why would Salomon use such a silly system on an otherwise decent product? In addition the tongue flares out and traps debris. After having to tighten the "laces" several times within the first mile I realized the Crosshikes we're not for me. Others seem to either love or hate the Quicklace system. I tried it and was left shaking my head at how unnecessarily tedious and time consuming it is.

I bought these a few months ago and have worn them for light hiking and field play with our dog. They fit well, but they started falling apart rather quickly. I have been wearing Solomon boots for years and this is the first pair that I would not recommend.

I have had these shoes for several months, however I don't wear them because the system of the ties are not good at all. There is no sweat spot with this system. I wish I could returns these and switch them. I hardly have worn them.

I swear by speedcross 4-5 but thought id try these maby keep my feet dry walking the dog ( which they do ). The lace system doesnt work needs more eye lets and they arnt spread out enought so you get hot spots if you try to tighten things, you can never get the shoe to feel like its on, at any point you can kick your shoes off no matter how tight you sinch the silly lace system. Good traction but my foot moves around so much in the heel and ancle i feel it would give me blisters hell wouldnt have if i ever tried a real hike with them, back to speedcross5 it is.

This boots were great out of the box and checked all the boxes for me. Lightweight, easy on / off, waterproof and great color schemes. BUT.....after several months of wear and tear they are starting to fall apart on me. As you can see in the pics, the seems are coming apart between the sole and upper. Likely a one off issue in my mind as have never had an issue with Salomon before, but curious if others are having this issue.

Purchased from Cabela's about 2 weeks ago and have gone on a couple hikes and they're already coming apart. Seems as if this is a very common defect based on the other reviews left. The seams by the toes started to come apart as if they were held together by Elmers glue. For the cost I'd expect a lot more! Laces are a bit too long as well, but not an issue since you can roll them up and stuff them under the tongue of the shoe (not sure if some of the reviews knew about that feature) thought that was pretty cool. Shoes are very comfortable and definitely waterproof, unfortunately they won't last very long. Pretty disappointed as this is now my second pair of Salomon hiking boots that have been poorly constructed.

I was really hoping these were going to be my go to hiking shoes. Unfortunately they were not. I love the concept of the quick pull lacing since it's hard for me to tie shoes now with a complete lumber fusion. It works, but when I tightened them there was so much extra lacing that I would have been walking on them. They need to be shorter. I would also say they are a low volume boot. The top of the boot was pressing on my big toes. I could also feel the instep support on my arches.

I love the look. I thought they were real comfortable at first. Then after wearing them for a while I had problems. I couldn't get the laces to do right. No matter how much I adjusted them, I couldn't fix it. I tried to wear them for a few weeks to see if they would break in but they never did. In those few weeks, part of the bottom started coming apart from the fabric. Not happy with my purchase.

I'm a big Salomon fan. I've gone thru 6 pairs of speedcross (3,4,5), and now my wife is hooked too. But these don't work. The lacing system, which is superb on the speedcross, just will not stay tight. I'm constantly stopping to tighten, again, and again. The tongue just sticks out... its like a big padded scoop ready to collect debris. Fit is a bit wide which is surprising for Salomons, but thicker socks and my orthotics fixed that problem. And I can already see the edging delaminating... after 1 month! For this price I expected better.

As with what is said in other reviews, after one walk for approx 7miles, the rubber separated on the instep where the foot bends. The glue used to stick the rubber to the material where the foot bends is like Pritt stick.. unfortunately I sent them back for a refund. Salomon need to amend the design.
Other than this they are comfortable and waterproof.
