Great lightweight boot, but I thought they would be able to replace what I think were called the Deemax (It was a lightweight hiker but had some warming qualities). Have had many pairs of the older boot and my feet were always warm as long as I was moving. Moving in these new boots don't stop my feet from getting cold. Oh well I guess I'll wear my warmer socks cuz they feel GREAT!

I have been using this mid height boot for hiking and work where I stand a lot and need to cross puddles, mud, snow. I really do like the boot. It's perfect for hikes and any need for a solid comfortable platform. My one ding against it however is that the ankle area has too much volume. No matter how tight I pull laces it doesn't even touch my ankles.

I wear speedcross wide 9.5, X-ultra 3 wide 9.5, X-ultra trek 9.5. If i'm getting a non-wide shoe I usually have to size up. These had a surprisingly different fit for being non-wide. Width was not a problem at any point. Arch support was roomy enough for low arch. Mid sole is wide enough to support low arch as well. Ample width in the toe box. The big con for this is the quicklace system. For a mid height I'd prefer traditional laces so I can make tension adjustments without having the lace slide loose. Specifically if i want it tighter around the toes or the heel. With the quicklace i can't do that because if i try to tighten one area eventually the thin lace will slide and distribute that tension away. On that note its difficult to keep my heel in place without tightening the lace across my whole foot and with this thin lace it cuts in and gets uncomfortable.

Solomon CROSS HIKE MID GTX Request/Review: Tri-Star Contagrip is awesome! But needs 5+ Eyelets! Solomon CROSS HIKE MID GTX, was my Concept to Salomon a couple of years ago because I wanted the awesome Speedcross GTX to be offered in a mid-height, but I was thinking more Sock-Like Flyknit Integrated Ankle Gaiter or a Welded Zip Mid-Upper design instead of a padded ankle to help to keep debris out so you don't have to wear Solomon's gators. A little ankle support is always nice. The CROSS HIKE MID GTX is made on the same exact awesome chassis/platform that uses the same midsole as the standard width Speedcross GTX. Also, I requested a pair of Speedcross GTXs with a more every-day sticky grip but still aggressive. The Salomon Designers delivered with the new tri-star Contagrip for more every-day use on all-surfaces including tarmac and concrete which typically wears down the Speedcross's softer cleat-like aggressive chevron-shaped lugs. The Contagrip's softer durometer and flexibility are still comfortable and aggressive, but the tri-star pattern offers more underfoot comfort when walking on harder surfaces, which is by far the best feature of this hybrid sneaker-boot. The Quicklaces are not too long, but there is one design flaw that needs to be addressed, and that is a needed addition of at least one more Eyelet. The CROSS HIKE MID GTX's need to have 5 or more Eyelets, 4 eyelets are just NOT enough! These hybrid sneaker-boots only have 4 eyelets and that is NOT enough for proper lockdown and support. I was able to modify the Quicklaces and double-loop them through the midsole to get a better lockdown. So it's not that the laces are too long, it's that the upper needs an additional eyelet. The second version of the CROSS HIKE MID GTX 2 should be great if Solomon and their Designers listen to these comments. As a fellow Designer, I still don't know why when designing a mid that the ankle portion cannot look appealing and be made out of the same durable material of the lower portion of the shoe. The ankle portion always looks like a complete afterthought, which I can't stand aesthetically or the feel of. Again I would've personally preferred a more Sock-Like Flyknit Integrated Ankle Gaiter or a Welded Zip Mid-Upper just like Solomon's Snowcross Advanced and Snowspike CSWP mid-upper construction that provides a smooth, glove-like, fit and feel! Also, the tongue of the sneaker-boot could've been designed more aesthetically pleasing and with a lower-profile with gussets to better keep out debris, and not have an unnecessary bulky seam down the middle. Regarding these hybrid sneaker-boots, Solomon should have used the exact same materials and laminating manufacturing process as the awesome Speedcross 5 GTXs! I did receive an email directly from Salomon mentioning that about premature delamination, and kudos to the brand for mentioning potential material and manufacturing defects, that's very rare and much appreciated. After a 4 mile light hike/walk I did notice where the four-foot bends slight delamination starting. I was one of the first people to purchase the Men's CROSS HIKE MID GTX, and I know for a fact I received stock from the first batch with a manufactured date of 6/2020. Salomon acknowledged and addressed the issue, so they should be fine now to purchase. And Salomon honors their 2-year warranty :) And as I've always stated to corporate, if there's footwear that's popular make it in two different Widths, one Performance Width which is what I need and desire, and one Wide Width to make every end-user happy. There are other Solomon options such as the awesome Speedcross 5 GTX and X ULTRA 3 MID GTX with the correct amount of eyelets for proper lockdown. Keep pushing the Design limits! GearFreakNY :)

I did buy these a month ago. For hiking in CO. Spent time on moderate hikes around 5 miles. Fit and function are very good. Only problem is cinch system. For a shoe like this should not have to think how make the loose ends secure.

I did a 14er summit with these out of the box and their performance was excellent. I always wanted a "high top speedcross" and these did not let me down. Lightweight and great grip on rock outcrops and loose surfaces, I felt very sure footed when exposed. When scrambling on slick rock and fast hiking they performed better than anything else I've ever worn. Yes, the rubber seam is beginning to separate where the foot bends like what others have reported, but when Salomon gets this corrected it is a 5 star winner for performance and comfort. Please don't give up on this boot Salomon!

I just got my pair have done only one hike in them so far. I am pleased with the lightness, amazing traction (best I ever have seen on a Salomon), and the comfort. The sizing is more like a trail running shoe than a hiker, same snugness as my Supercorsses, not a bad thing, but I was planning on wearing thick socks in them this winter, so keep that in mind. Two dislikes were the noticeable feel of support strap for the laces across the inside of the foot on both shoes, I am sure I will become accustomed it, but I was annoyed. Also there seems to be an excess of laces, they probably could have left a few inches off. Other than those minor things I am delighted with the new design and the return of quicklace to the hiking boot line.

This shoe is decent. A little slippery on wet surfaces. The huge downfall of the shoe is the lace design. Instead of securing the tounge of the shoe close in, the fast lace design allows for debris to get inside because the tounge sticks out. It will not tuck into pants or even the sides of the ankle support. The speed assault 2 boot has a much better lace design that prevents this. Unfortunately the speed assault isn't protective enough or I would go with them. If you're not going off trail through brush, the speed assault will suit you better.

The tread is a little slippery on rocks especially when damp. The top of the boot doesn’t close well around the ankle allowing for stuff the enter the top of the boot.

I bought these as waterproof winter boots for kicking around. Really like the general design, outsole, cushioning and weight. BUT My feet are ended up wet after walking around in groomed snow and tubing. So the Waterproofing was disappointing. The other issue, and this is a big one, the collar of the shoe, even at full cinch in the speed laces, stays wide open. I have collected more dirt, leaves, throbs and snow in these more than any other boot. Wanted like rhis, but in the end, disappointed. I think with a cuff redesign and a more critical look at the waterproofing, these could be glorious boots.

These are decent, good traction (even in cold weather), comfortable and keep your feet dry. The lacing however doesn't offer much "mid" support, the only good the mid does is give some protection to your ankle from side hits. Like just about everyone else, get yourself a bottle of thick set gorilla super glue, these de-lam around the toe crease at stupid low mileage. Otherwise a good shoe.

I really like these boots, I hike and run accross multi trail terrain, the fit and support well and give all the benefits of a trail running shoe with a bit more wading depth for wet winter runs and hikes. But.. within only a few months they start falling apart, all the uppers are coming away from the rubber mid section, the toe box has split on the crease so they leak like a sieve then retain the water / mud. I used to be a massive salamon fan I've had dozens of trail running shoes with some really poor quality results lately, compared to 2 other brands I have started using they sadly don't compare.

I was looking for a pair of lightweight boots with decent grip and these seemed perfect. I have 2 pairs of Salomon trial running shoes so the Cross Hike's made sense. They do fit the bill but like others I think they need improvements on the ankle closure (a separate method of closure as they tend to gape), otherwise they are perfect for my type of walking. Unfortunately I now also have the issue of the material coming apart on the toes and leaking, I'll be looking to return them under warrantee as they were only purchased in January with fairly light use since. A bit disappointing.

I picked up a pair at Uloha in Honolulu, Hi a great shop If you need gear in Hawaii. I hiked the Ka'au Crater trail about a 7 mile loop and 2500 climb. Mixed terrain from rocky to climbing in muddy terrain with lots of rain. The boot provided great traction and fit like a glove and kept stream water out. When I got home and started cleaning noticed separation of material where toes bend. Did not feel any water leakage during hike. I returned to Uloha and they gave me another pair. I really like fit and feel of boot and hope this pair don't fail the same way on Mt. Olympus. Photos give an idea of terrain.

I have had these 4 months, and have used them for daily dog walking. At first I was very pleased with them. They're lightweight and comfortable but still give plenty of support. Unfortunately, they don't seem very durable. The outer material on both boots has started to split, and they now leak. Not what I expected considering how much they cost.

I bought these about two months ago and loved them. They do seem to run a half size big but that was not an issue. However..... like everyone says, the upper siding separates from the shoe. Heart broken me. Salomon must fix this.

I received these this past Christmas. I was very excited to have a set of hiking shoes that would keep my feet dry. My other Salomon Speed Cross 4 do not have Gore-Tex technology and my feet would always get wet. This is pretty much where the excitement ended. I assumed these were exactly like the Speed Cross shoes but in a high top. The sizing on these is different that the Speed Cross shoes. I wear a size 10 but these fit almost like a 10.5 or 11 wide. There's too much room in them and my feet move around quite a bit. I also do not care for the lacing system in these even though I love the quick lace system in other Salomons. I feel there should be at least one more anchor point at the tongue area. These shoes do not stay tight. I like the sole on these as they provide great grip and I like the Gore-Tex technology. I feel like Salomon missed the mark on what could have been a great compromise between a hiking boot and low top hiking shoe. I would pass on buying these again.

These are very comfortable overpriced high top tennis shoes. I really do like them....but the lacing system does not support your ankles. If you want a cool looking, waterproof shoe with a lack luster lacing system then buy them! Do not think these will replace your backpacking boots!!

I really want to like these, but the lacing system and the tongue just don't work. They're a quality shoe with a design flaw. If they can fix that in the next version, they will be worth a buy.

Really comfortable and provide exceptional grip on slippery and muddy terrain (but less on wet rocky ground), and impressively light for a waterproof boot. My only slight criticism of the design is the rather loose fit at the top of the boot, which could possibly benefit from a redesigned top lace eyelet... but this isn't a major issue. However, I was disappointed to have to return my Cross Hikes due to delamination of the upper after wearing them on only a couple of walks over moderate ground, covering less than 30km in total. Returning them wasn't a problem, and it seems that it's a known issue given the other reviews that have appeared since I bought mine. I really like these boots, and am only leaving a review in the hope that it adds to the reviews of others and helps Salomon improve either the design/manufacture of these. I'll definitely buy a 'version 2.0' if Salomon solve the delamination problem, as the Cross Hikes merit a much higher score... if they lasted longer than 30km without coming apart.

Love the style and initial fit, great traction. However after one hike the inside material would pinch inside the foot causing discomfort. Manufacturing and design flaw in my opinion. I so wanted to love these and everything was so right except that last little pinching fit issue. Had to return them. On to the next pair.

I love these boots but can only give 3 stars due to having the same issues as other reviewers with the seams peeling after a couple of hikes and fast lace being too long. Slight issue with breath ability and now boots are a bit nasty on the nose. Sooooo comfortable and very very waterproof and let's be honest they look the part.
