Solomon CROSS HIKE MID GTX, was my Concept to Salomon a couple of years ago because I wanted the awesome Speedcross GTX to be offered in a mid-height, but I was thinking more sock-like Flyknit design instead of a padded ankle to help to keep debris out so you don't have to wear gators. A little ankle support is always nice. The CROSS HIKE MID GTX are made on the same exact awesome platform as the standard width Speedcross GTX. Also I requested a pair of Speedcross GTXs with a more every-day grip but still aggressive. The Salomon Designers delivered and more so! The Contagrip is awesome for every-day use on all-surfaces including tarmac and concrete which typically wears down the Speedcross's softer cleat-like aggressive grips. The Contagrip's softer durometer and flexibility is still comfortable and aggressive, but the tri-star pattern enables comfort under foot when walking on harder surfaces, that is by far the best feature of this hybrid sneaker-boot. I have yet to wear them and put them to task because I'm still rocking flip-flops this summer. So I'm not sure about the premature mesh delamination. But I did receive an email from directly from Salomon mentioning that, and kudos to the brand mentioning potential material and manufacturing defects, that's very rare and much appreciated.
The quicklaces are not too long, but there is one design flaw that needs to be addressed and that is a needed addition of one more eyelet. The CROSS HIKE MID GTX's need to have 5 or more eyelets, 4 eyelets are just NOT enough! These hybrid sneaker-boots only have 4 eyelets and that is not enough for proper lock-down and support. I was able to modify the quicklaces and double loop them through the midsole to get better lock down. So it's not that the laces are too long, it's that the upper needs an additional eyelet. The second version of the CROSS HIKE MID GTX should be great if Solomon and their Designers listen to these comments. As a fellow Designer, I still don't know why when designing a mid that the ankle portion cannot look appealing and be made out of the same durable material of the lower portion of the shoe. The ankle portion always looks like a complete afterthought, which I can't stand aesthetically. Again I would've personally preferred a more Flyknit mid upper. Also the tongue of the sneaker book could've been designed a little more aesthetically pleasing and not having an unnecessary bulky seam down the middle.
And as I've always stated to corporate, if there's footwear that's popular make it in two different widths, one Performance Width which is what I need and desire, and one Wide With to make every end-user happy. There are other Solomon options such as the awesome Speedcross GTX 5 and X ULTRA 3 MID GTX.
Keep pushing a Design limits!

I've worn these several times on trail and mountain hikes. The grip is good and they are lightweight, however the laces do not tighten well, leaving the foot pretty loose within the shoe. This is exacerbated by the fact the tongue is not held in place by the laces at all, meaning they come forward as you hike, making them even looser. Despite tucking them back in place multiple times and pulling the laces as tight as possible it is not possible to find the sweet spot of comfort and function. This also means you collect a lot of debris in your shoes which doesn't help the comfort level!

Love these shoes.
Love to trail run, hike, and climb. I'm always looking for a versatile shoe that I can use on different types of terrain in the alpine environment.
Pros:
First off these shoes are very light and comfortable! That is a huge plus if you are putting in miles with significant elevation.
Living in the Pacific Northwest, my favorite feature of this shoe is the gore tex membrane. I have found that my cross-hikes works great in both consolidated snow and rain with adequate warmth and cold weather. My feet never feel cold, and most importantly the cross-hikes keep your feet dry. If you live in a wet and cold environment these shoes are perfect for you.
The grip is also excellent for steep trails and sticks well on class 3-4 rock. Many of the aforementioned features make it perfect for not only day hikes but significant scrambles involving snow and rock in the alpine environment.
Cons:
I like my shoes to fit as snug as possible for maximum and effective movement. I've never had a problem with any of my salomon shoes fitting properly. I normally wear a size 8-8.5 and these shoes feel a bit loose by half a size. The top of the shoe is not as snug as it should be in order to support the ankle.
I'm a big fan of salomon's quick lace system. I hate having to tie shoe laces, but for some reason the lacing system feel like they don't tighten completely.
Overall I still think this is a great shoe with durability and comfort. I plan on wearing them for more hikes and moderate scrambles. I just wish these shoes were a bit tighter on my feet for that perfect fit!!

Love all of my Salomon shoes, they fit my super flat cyclist feet, and best of all, no laces! I hate laces on shoes. These look great, and for me, feel great too. I'm no runner, quite the opposite, but I do only purchase Salomon shoes.

I LOVE THEM ! Actually first time I am writing a review on Salomon shoes. Speedcross is my everyday / everything use, I thought I'd give a try to the CrossHike. Love the similar precise fit as Speedcross with a little more room for hike. Love the tread pattern uphill / downhill. I actually love the support and exactly what I was looking for. It is slightly more than the Speedcross, but not as supportive / stiff as X Ultra or Quest. It is for fast hiking ! More freedom of movement. Small thing but love the soft ankle cuff at the back. Love it. Fast & Light. You can even run a few miles if wanted. I kind of wish a non waterproof version was coming for fast & light, more active, more breathable, less sweaty I haven't noticed durability issue on my side. Actually even surprised that I used it for both hiking and motorcycle road trip for a week, and the upper isn't damaged at all ? With the gear shifter I was worried of it Really love them !

First off, I love the Salomon brand. And second I really appreciate Zappos for their customer service.
I feel like this model may have a defect because after exchanging my first pair, both pairs had the same problem with the right shoe on the outer part that kept digging into my foot. I never had a problem with the left shoe on both pairs or on any of my previous Salomon shoes. Needless to say I will not be recommending this model.

As with what is said in other reviews, after one walk for approx 7miles, the rubber separated on the instep where the foot bends. The glue used to stick the rubber to the material where the foot bends is like Pritt stick.. unfortunately I sent them back for a refund. Salomon need to amend the design.
Other than this they are comfortable and waterproof.

This is coming from a hiker who was completely dedicated to my former Salomon hiking low cut shoes. I had decided to finally move into a pair of boots and knew I was going to get this pair. After wearing them for less than three weeks, huge holes appeared on both shoes where the toes sit. The shoes are completely wrecked now, as the seams on both have completely torn open. The fact that expensive hiking boots tear after less than a month of hiking on well maintained trails indicates they are poor quality. I would expect this wear and tear after a significant amount of kilometers and/or months of strenuous hiking, not within the same purchase month! Save your money and go get a pair of boots from another brand that does not cheap out on stitching.
Also, the sole tread was not to be trusted on inclines.

I bought these boots a month ago and am returning them tomorrow. I have worn them once and they absolutely stink now. They smell terrible. I might have put up with this but they are also coming apart in the same way as others have said. Terrible boots.

Excellent combination of lightweight, durable and adequately warm. Only nit is they run narrow. I used on a Mt. Kilimanjaro climb. Zero issues but for narrowness of the toe box.

I bought cross hike mid GTX for walking my two mastiffs daily on the trail. Ground is frozen, wet and muddy. The traction is great and my feet are warm and dry. Best trail shoe yet

These fit great, like my other Salamons. They look nicer than I expected. The sole and support are great for the light to moderately challenging hiking I do. Super pleased with these boots.

I have about 50 miles on this shoe so far and am a fan. It feels more like a trail running shoe with more ankle support. Great for moving fast and staying dry.

Took these up to Grand Teton and Yellowstone. Put about 50 miles on them over the week. Last day did 19 miles and a 4,000 ft elevation gain....
These are amazing. Super light, comfy, and unbelievable traction.
2 things I would change. Put the last lace "holes" further up. Or add an additional one to help close the ankle. Also, make the tongue connect to the top of the boot around the ankle.
I only had to stop twice to get a rock out of these. Not bad for a 19 mile hike. With some revision these will be even better.
Amazing boot. Feet barely hurt at the end of the trip.

It is a wardrobe staple for trekking and camping, running errands as well and chores at the house. I've noticed these latest have a quality decreased, significant enough that seams are unglued after a few weeks use. Too bad.

They are supportive. I used Salomon’s sizing method (found on their website) and got a good fit. They look great! I hope they hold up well

Favorite shoe I've ever ownedextremely comfortable, versatile, lightweight, and durable. They handle most terrain. I'm a big, strong guy and they've held up great. The easy on and off (hands free laces loose) makes them a great shoe for in camp. I like the lacing system too; fast, simple, functional.
