This is my go-to base layer for almost any activity from commercial fishing in the north to walking the dog to skiing for fun. It works well as a second layer over a lighter base and I find it comfortable down to some lower temperatures. As well, it doesn't overheat when the temperature rises a bit. It's like magic!

I use this while bike commuting in cold wet weather. It's an hour ride to work for me and these keep me warm and dry.

I use this for everyday wear, then then backpacking if I need it.

I've warn the thinner Smartwool base layer 1/4 zip for years but with colder weather recently thought I'd try the thicker one and it's great! I put it on in the morning when getting dressed and wear it inside the house and then outdoors all day. I love the rounded thick top and the way it keeps in the warmth at the top of my neck, it's incredibly comfortable! I like it so well I just bought one for my dad and he loves it too! Way to go Smartwool!!
