I like to call this the gateway Smartwool purchasesolid materials, great fit (though they run smaller than other brands, imo). You will not regret!

Love the product. I have three of them in different colors. You can wear it to hike in the wilderness or wear it to dinner. Very versatile garment. Only knock is that it's expensive!!

Wonderful shirt that I wear very frequently. I've got two of them and they feel great. I love that these are not loose fitting.

I am new to cold weather clothing. I am a Project Manager that often has to go out to the field to work. Normally, I do this in the southeastern USA (think Florida) where it doesn't much get any colder than 50F. I was called to a project in North Dakota and after speaking with my site personnel about the impending -20F weather, they assured me I needed better clothing. I purchased 1 set of base-layer clothing based on their recommendations and I am so glad I listened to them. I was warm and toasty the entire time outdoors for 5 days straight. I will definitely be getting SmartWool for all of my future cold weather needs. "#sweepstakes

While the South is known for its heat and humidity I live on a rural homestead in the mountains of Western NC and we have been known to get snow five months out of the year. So my Smartwool base layers get a lot of use and are by far my favorite. In the Army I was issued various synthetic base layers and after a while they would get a smell that wouldn't go away. Merino may take a bit longer to dry than synthetics but it is soft, doesn't get clammy and retains warmth even when wet and doesn't stink even after multiple days of wear. And its naturally fire resistant. We heat with wood and all my nylon stuff ends up with burn holes from sparks from dealing with the wood stove. Not the case with wool. Back in the day as a young Green Beret we used to refer to old SF guys as "BG" for "before Goretex" and wondered how they survived before the advent of high tech synthetics. But now, after a lifetime of working and playing outdoors, I have really come to appreciate the capabilities of wool and Smartwool merino is my go to. I have several crew neck base layer tops in both 150 and 250 weight but the 250 weight 1/4 zips are my favorite. I like the ability to unzip the top and push up the sleeves to dump heat when working.

Absolutely love the warmth-to-weight ratio. Soft merino with zero itch. Size is true-to-size. The pewter blue color is slightly darker than in the website photo. I actually like it better. I love the 1/4 zip feature. I can zip it up when I'm cold and zip it down when I'm warm. This will not pill if you take care to wash on gentle/delicate cycle in cold water and hang dry or lay flat.

Planning to move to a colder climate and I'm slowly preparing for it. I had 2 of different weights already but couldn't resist the color. Take care of them and they will last forever! The first one I got 12 years ago still looks as new as the ones that just showed up!

This is my second one. The first lasted 10 years with heavy fieldwork use. The weight to warmth ratio is perfect for me.
