I tried both a 9 and a 9 1/2 and neither worked for me. This shoe was way to narrow for an Altra. Yes, there is still more room in toe box than most other shoes, but overall for an Altar, too narrow in TB and in mid-foot. The Loan Peaks 4.5 were a better shoe for me.

I originally bought the Timp 1.5. They were perfect! Super comfortable and soft with a roomy toe box. I was able to wear them right out of the box for a 12 hour shift on my feet all night. Unfortunately, the 1.5s were discontinued so I got a pair of the 2s. Nowhere near the same level of comfort. 3 hours into my shift and I felt like I had bricks strapped to my feet. I would return them but I’m a respiratory therapist and I wore them to work so I’m keeping them as yard shoes.

A friend of mine had these shoes and swore I needed to get them because we do a lot of hiking. I tried hers on and immediately fell in love so of course, I didn't waste any time ordering a pair of my own. Shipping was insanely fast and I can't be happier with these shoes. Honestly, if you do any kind of hiking, you need these in your life! I have a pair of very expensive hiking boots that I started to dread wearing because after a short hike my feet were killing me, but the Altras are great! Awesome traction, comfortable and well fitting without any hard rubbing areas.

OK, so these are the third pair of TIMPs I've had and they are 1) definitely narrower than the tab-lace models, 2) definitely have a wider heel, which causes me to have to wear thicker socks and mess with the lacing to avoid heel slip, but 3) the new grommet-style lace holes are WAY better - I went through two pairs of yellow TIMPs (not included in the three total pairs) that were returned within 3-days of purchase because the lace loops broke, pathetic.
I wish Altra would get its QC and QA act together and create a consistent shoe with a consistent set of lasts by model. Their quality has only become more inconsistent since their acquisition a few years ago. The first and second pair of TIMPs was the most comfortable shoe I've ever worn.
I'd also recommend:
I haven't found any Natural Foot shoes other than Birkenstock or Altra that accommodate Correct Toes

The tip of the toe box was extremely low, pinching my big toenail. This was really surprising because I have thin, low-volume feet, so I can only imagine what people with fleshier toes feel. This was so uncomfortable I really couldn't evaluate the rest of the fit.

this style of shoe is awesome. it has the natural wide width at the ball of the foot. It doesn't feel sloppy, it feels perfect. I use these shoes for trail jogging and mountain biking and find them very comfortable and supportive. I highly recommend these shoes for comfort, support and color. I bought the purple color and I love them.

The only thing which I can complain is durability i am a long distance runner and normally my trail shoes would last me 6 months but these broke in the upper

I acquired a disability 2+ years ago due to a brain injury and I can say, without a doubt, that this is a great shoe for anyone who wears a KAFO (knee ankle foot orthotic -- basically, a big custom leg brace that goes from inside the shoe, up to the butt cheek). Pull out the innersole, cut the sides of the tongue so you can get that bad boy wide open, and voila! You can fit your leg brace in the shoe. Plus, it's flat. So is the brace. This is a huge deal. Downside-- Shoe needs to be replaced fairly often (if you are active) But I think that would go for any shoe that has a KAFO in it. And I tend to be rough on my things, so there's that. I would not, however, recommend the Olympus 3.5 for KAFO wearers. It is too cushy, squishy even, and your foot won't strike the pavement correctly. The Timp is a solid choice. It's been 4 months and I'm due for a new pair. That just means I'm doing well.

Great quality shoe with a wide toe box for hiking. I’ve had mine for about six months and wear two to three times a week. They are my first zero drop shoes so that took a little adjustment. I’m used to my Salomon 5 speed cross which have more traction and more stable ankle support, but these Timp2’s are comfy and nice to alternate every other day with my Salomons. And these, unlike my Salomons, can be worn on road or trail. Would buy again. Due to some PF developing now that I’ve hit 40, I may look for my next pair to have more cushioning. But great shoes overall. Very cute and comfortable, and durable.

I have a Lone Peak, Olympus and now also a Timp . The Timp is more narrow than the Olympus and Lone Peak but still accommodates my wide foot. I feel that it runs slightly small as well. I bought the all black model to use it more as a casual shoe around town rather than a trail shoe and for that application it works well for me. It looks more sleek and flattering than the other two trail models but my toes do not have quite as much room to spread out. The cushioning is adequate for me and I like the grippy but not overly sticky sole. I think it would be helpful from Altra to mention foot shape type for different shoe models in the description. The Paragism is cut for more narrow feet, the Timp is for a normal to moderately wide foot and the Olympus and Lone Peaks are extra wide ... Please offer some kind of dimensions or a fit guide. I love the Timp as a moderately wide trail runner or even for casual wear - it is the ideal travel shoe for me- it can hit the trail or ... go sightseeing .

This seems like a good trail running shoe that you can also use on hard surfaces. It was comfortable and felt cushiony, minimal but not too little of a shoe. I usually take a 7.5 and that worked with the Timp 2. Love the splay room for my toes; just enough but not so wide that they felt like wearing a clown shoe! Unfortunately I am sending them back because they are starting to bring back my plantar fasciitis issue I developed after wearing the Altra Escalante shoes. Super bummed because the shoe is comfortable, but my body isn't happy with the zero drop. If you try these shoes, make sure and give yourself a long break in period so your muscles can get use to them. It definitely works your calf, ankle, and foot muscles more than a higher drop shoe. Worth the transition if they work for you because a lower drop shoe helps promote a mid-foot strike and that seems to lessen knee and hip issues. Altra is a great brand and they offer a wide range of shoe types. I wish they would offer a 4 mm range because their shoe designs are great, just need an option other than zero. Thank you ZAPPOS for allowing me to shop and return with such ease and at NO cost. You guys ROCK!!

Initially ordered size 10.5 but tried them in the house and determined that my toes would be destroyed by the end of the shoe. Ordered the size 11 and received them yesterday. Ran 5 miles on dirt and gravel roads with hills this morning. First ran 5.6 miles in my Hoka Bondi 6. The Altras felt good and had better traction on the gravel than my Hoka or my Altra Torin. Not as cushioned as the Hoka or Torin but so far I am happy with them.

I’ve tried nearly every Altra shoe at this point. (Used to like the Escalante but not anymore). I’m currently trying out the Torin 4.5 as well.
So far I can say I like the grip on the sole of the Timps even though I don’t use them for trail running. However, the Torin is “cushier.” Since I have PF that can be a crucial point.
I wear them to walk the dog a couple miles every morning so I don’t know how they’d be for a run.

Running shoes can be difficult to fit which is why they were returned. The toe box was too wide for me. Zappos is my favorite website for shoes because of the free fast shipping and easy returns.

tl;dr but the sizing is off with this style. For context, a 9 almost always fits me perfectly, including in Altra - occasionally I wear 8 1/2 in some brands. I have been running in a pair of these in size 9 which I got on sale without worrying too much about the exact fit. I love the feel of those shoes and the traction is awesome, but my toes are up against the end, which causes problems on longer runs. I really hoped to replace the old shoes with a new pair in the same style, but I really seem to be between sizes. If these fit, they would be so perfect. The kids' sizes also run really small.

I love Altras. Wear them most days. I wore my Lone Peaks into the ground and wanted a trail shoe with more cushion so decided to go with the Timp 2 in the same size I get all my other Altras. Eeeeek. My big toe on one foot rubs up against the inside of the top of the shoe so much that the outer layer of the top of the shoe is now discolored where my toe rubs it on the inside (see photo)! I've only worn these shoes about 7 or 8 miles. They are comfortable to walk around flat ground in. Maybe I'll try using them as city shoes... Once I'm on an actual hike though its painful and aggravating. I would not buy these again and if they weren't so expensive I'd just trash them rather than trying to find an alternate use to not waste my already spent money!

This is my second pair! I have a morton neuroma that irritates when in a narrow shoe. The space for my toes is enough and I don't feel any pressure around them anymore. Love them!

I switched from the Lone Peak 4.5 RSM to these. I'm planning on doing a swim run event in them this summer. The toe box feels flatter on these compared to the Lone Peak, which is good. I feel like my foot slides around less.

A devoted Altra shoe friend ( she has 4 pair of all cushions and styles) told me about these because we both have foot issues from old knee surgeries and are both super active. SO, I finally listened and bought the Timp 2. THE FIRST DAY my foot pain was non existent and my knee felt greatly stabilized which made my confidence on the trail far better. AMAZING. DO BUY A 1/2 SIZE LARGER. I am a true 8 and they were too tight, the 8.5 is perfect, I do not have a wide foot.

I've had all versions of the Timp, multiple pairs, for trail running. These are the best ones. They are more narrow than 1.5 but for me that was a good thing. The 1.5 are good but too loose and the upper not too hearty. I like these uppers better.

After reading the reviews about the TIMP 2.0, I was nervous as I had older TIMPs which I loved and wore out. I am happy to report that, yes, the shoes are a bit narrower. But I found the fit fantastic for my foot. I have been happily wearing them running and walking for the last two months and am thoroughly enjoying them. I highly recommend them, unless you have wide feet, they may not work as well for your foot.
