I don't do reviews. This is a first. But I've enjoyed this shoe so much in the past 6 months, that I just had to balance out all the nay sayers. I've run in past model Torin and Escalantes, and this Timp model is my favorite of any of them. They did start out snug, as some mentioned in their reviews, but they stretch out after a few miles. Folks probably just didn't give them much of a run. I never bought a second pair of any shoe, but I'd be inclined to get another pair of these in case the next variant changes too much, as a result of the complaints. Good support. Good cushion. Good traction. Ample toe space. Nice colors. Tongue stays put. No pressure points. No heel slip. Great shoe, Altra.

Love these Timps. My son calls them the ‘Flash’ shoes. I get lots of compliments on them out on trail. Ive been wearing Timps for quite a while now and the 2 is my favorite of the bunch. It runs a bit narrower than previous versions which I really like. In the previous versions my foot would shift forward on the down hill because of the width. With this narrower fit my foot stays in place and my toes for pay the heavy price from running downhill. The arch is not that great and I use an insole with greater arch support instead. The grip is fantastic when I’m bouldering up or down the mountain. I think the grip is a bit better with the 1.5’s but these will get no complaints. This is my third pair of the flame red and orange. I haven’t used up the first pair but wanted two more in reserve as I really love the fit of this shoe.

This is my first pair of Timps, and I was feeling a little uncertain after reading the mixed reviews here. I have put a lot of miles into the Superior 4s, and really liked the fit, but the rocky trails with lots of prolonged downhills were starting to kill my feet and knees on longer runs (15+). So, after watching a few glowing reviews on YouTube, I gave them a shot.
The good: they are fantastic. The cushion on the shoes is plush, without feeling pillowy like Altras, I could feel the rough chipseal roads, embedded rocks in hardpack roads, and felt confident rockhopping on more technical sections of trail. The heel is very well designed, in that it's a little narrower. Most importantly, it feels wonderful to cruise downhill in these shoes, and my knees have felt much, much better. Despite the cushion, they don't feel noticeably heavier underfoot than the superiors. And running uphill on sandy, rocky, washed out ATV trails felt totally fine (as they would in the superiors).
The iffy: they are narrower for sure, but this is exacerbated by a stiff upper across the laces, and the fact that they came laced unbelievably tightly. When I first put them on, I thought I was going to immediately return them. But after unlacing and relacing the shoe and dialing the fit during the first run, they felt fine. I run in the relatively thin Smartwool PHD Pro Endurance socks, and in thicker socks like Fitsoks, I'd argue that sizing a half size up might be smart. Lastly, because they are a "thiccboii" shoe (maximalist cushion), foot fatigue during the first few runs is a real thing. My first run in the shoe was a ten miler on dirt, gravel, and chipseal with a little over 1k of gain, and my arches and forefoot were sore the next day after so much time in the relatively minimal Superior. But the rest of my body was much, much happier.
It's a very different fit than the Fred Flinstone Altras of yore, but they are fantastic shoes.

i for got my shoes as i set out on my first fast pack trip.
so i got these thinking i'd just return them as i couldn't find my normal shoes.
i ran Silverton ultra course in the new lone peak and HATED IT. my girlfriend love those. though a solid sole the thing is so sloppy.
i was wary of the Timp for rocks and skree. but this weekend these Timps did it all for me include blast down rocky trails with 12 pounds in my pack.
they were comfortable from the start & amazing for 40 miles of scrambles, running and general mountain play.
i was so pleasantly surprised. these will not be going back in fact i will buy a few pair so when the ruin them next year i will be set. every foot is different so it's hard to say a shoe is bad as many reviewer have.
but they are spot on for me!! so stoked!!

I think Altra hit the sweet spot with this shoe. The previous versions of the Timp felt sloppy with a very weak upper. I feel like the Timp 2 fixed those bugs. It is more narrow then other models and not for everyone, but once the lace tensioning is set correctly and they have some miles on them they feel awesome. Definitely the most durable Altra I've owned.

I attempted to pace a friend with my time 1.5s and had to back out at miles 33. Was very concerned about my upcoming 100k. Bought the timp 2s as soon as they came out and they were so much more snug and supportive! Ended up not only finishing the 100k but placing fourth. These shoes saved my race.

I have run in the Lone Peak through several updates and it is a great shoe! I was looking for another Altra shoe to change off with and do some assault running when needed. The Timp 2 is perfect for both. The fit is a little more snug but works fine. The tread Is less aggressive than the Lone Peak so the Timp works well on asphalt and gravel trail. Break in time was minimal with an initial run of 9 miles! I would recommend the Timp 2 to all trail runners!!

The Timp 1.5 was my first foray into the Altra brand. I loved the additional foot space and have grown to absolutely love the zero drop. However, the 1.5 was just too sloppy if you weren't running pretty flat trail. Where I had sideways forefoot slippage in the 1.5, the 2.0 is much snugger and prevents all slippage, but not snug in a bad way. I will say that I normally wear an 11.5, and the Timp 1.5 seemed a little short on the downhills. Initially at the store I tried out the 11.5 2.0 and it was too tight. For people with wider feet (I feel like mine are average), definitely try half a size up. I tried on the 12 and it was perfect. Highly recommend possibly going up half a size. Super comfortable, just the right amount of snug, and no more squeak! I've got about 65 miles on them so far, a mix of sidewalk, flat and hilly dirt trails and mud, and rocky terrain in Hawaii. The shoe handled very well on everything. Honestly, the more I run in them, the more I like them. (My "feels too narrow" rating is for if I'd gotten my normal size. Half a size up is perfect.)

This is a very good shoe....The Beauty of Timp2 shoe is its transition from trail to road......Really good.... I like trails and often hit dirt roads and pavement in circuit. Never completely commit to wet logs or stones, had a slip on wet wood that I escaped without any issue. I recently bought the Lone Peak RSM and just not feeling that shoe but it will preform in monsoon and snain/snow conditions. Timp is slightly longer...seems like I may have been better in an 11 1/2 but I wear thick socks with all my altras for snug fit. Lone peak RSM feels like way too big at 12.. I have had 2 Neoshell versions previous.

I wear Altra shoes for trail/ultra running. The zero drop first attracted me to the brand but the foot shape design keeps me buying Altras. Over the years I've run in a variety of their trail and road shoes. Some I've loved and some I've regretted. At times I've been concerned about the durability of the shoes and the lack of consistency between different shoe models. The Timp 2 has alleviated my concerns and excited me about Altra again.
The Timp 2 fits very comfortably. I do not feel any pressure points and have had no hot spots or blister concerns in 180+ miles of running on a variety of trails and dirt roads. Long runs of 4+ hours and 20+ miles are not an issue. My Timps have become my go-to shoe for longish or extra easy runs on the dirt. I much prefer them to the Lone Peak 4 RSMs that got me through the winter but never quite felt like running shoes. The uppers aren't wearing noticeably at all and move with my foot much better than the sloppier fit of the Lone Peak 4s. Thus far, the cushioning seems to be holding up better than the two pairs of Timp 1.5s I've worn in the past. I just bought a second pair of Timp 2s to replace my clunky Olympus 3.5s for recovery runs because, again, I feel more like a runner in the Timps.

I bought a pair of Timp 2's last week after my 1.5's finally disintegrated to a point I could no longer run in them. I was skeptical about the 2s because I had read the reviews that people thought they were too narrow and all the other downsides. I was blown away by this shoe over the past week.
I went up a half size from a 9.5 in the Timp 1.5 to a 10 in the 2. The 10 felt better on my foot than the 9.5 did. I compared my old 1.5s (9.5) to my 2s (10) and the footbed appears to be the same width and they are almost identical in length.
I have found the uppers to be stiffer than the 1.5's which may be why people feel it is too narrow. But this extra support really creates a stable feeling shoe and theres still plenty of room for the toes to spread out. I feel like I have better contact with the shoe and with the trail because of slightly stiffer uppers, which is nice for the technical trails I typically enjoy running.
Another thing I like better in the 2's compared to the 1.5's is how fast the water drains out of them. Doing the majority of my running on trails in the Appalachian region there are lots of stream and water crossings, and the 2's drain water a ton faster than the 1.5's did. They have been great in that regard.
The first day I got them I wore some ankle socks and I did get a small hotspot/blister on my achilles. usually don't wear ankle socks so this may have been a reflection on that rather than the shoes themselves. Since then I have been wearing taller socks that come up above the contact points of the shoe and I have not had an issue.
all in all really digging the Timp 2's and I'm surprised by how good this shoe is after reading all the negative reviews. My wide feet are still very happy in a pair of Timps.

Timp 2.0 is a big improvement compared to Timp 1.5:
1) Right width. While some people complained about Timp 2.0 is narrower than 1.5, it's just about right for me, and for a lot more people, I believe.
2) The cushion is more responsive and feels more comfortable on trail.
3) Sole is more tough and durable, which I really like.
Altra, please keep up your good work. Don't listen to people crying about narrower width of Timp 2.0. They are not the majority.

WOW!!! That's first thing that popped into my head when I tried on the new Timp 2. I haven't run a ton in the new Timp yet but so far I absolutely love them! They fit like a glove and the new Quantic cushioning feels like I'm running on a cloud! It almost feels like I don't have anything on my feet, they're so comfortable. The Quantic cushioning feels just great, so soft and cushy yet responsive. Plus, it's lighter than the previous cushioning and the entire shoe feels light and very nimble. Much more nimble than previous iterations of the Timp (I've worn the 1.0 and 1.5).
I look for light, low to the ground, nimble shoes for the trails and the new Timp 2 fits the bill. I have a very narrow foot and even with the wide toe boxes, I've never had much trouble with Altra shoes because of the very tight and secure heel fit. The Timp 2 takes perfect fit to a new level. These shoes absolutely fit my foot perfectly! Going down a very steep, rocky decline where I was braking quite a bit, I had no foot slippage forward. My foot stayed solidly locked in. I can't remember when I've had a trail shoe lock my foot in this well on the downhills. In my opinion, the new Timp 2 is one of the best improvements on any shoe I've ever tried. I'm serious, these shoes are just phenomenal! Literally one of the best trail running shoes I've ever worn, and I've worn MANY! I've been running trails and ultramarathons since the mid '90's! Great job with the Timp 2 Altra, you have a winner!

Love the snug fit in the mid foot for downhill running. Paired with the shock absorbing materials, the feel is perfect. There was a little rub on the end of my toe and I did go a half size up. Other than that the shoe was great

I walk/hike/run mountain trails everyday. My new Timp 2's have excellent grip and fit my foot like a glove(no slop). I am very happy with my purchase. I have a pair of Olympus' as well too. My 2 favorite pair of outdoor trail shoes.

Owned a few Lone peaks & Torin's and wow! What difference. These fit snug with room in toe box as they should be for a trail shoe with cushioning. I was never really a big fan of the oversized toe boxed Altras prior but they did the shoe right this time even though feeling loose or lossy feel all the time, especially when wet. This shoe solves it all and a more positive feel.
As all Altras, not great in slimy mud and wet snow.

My 10th Altra? Lost count but the Timp 2 is the best so far, not too much stack, not too much grip, just right for road, trail, short or long runs.

I've owned Ten pairs of Altra's, mostly Lone Peaks, Superiors and Timps but a few others also. I have a long list of foot problems including arthritis and tendon issues and wearing these new Timps has pretty much put all of them to bed. I think it's really important especially after reading these other reviews that just because a shoe doesn't work for you or in fact may, that won't necessarily be the case for others. I'm going to buy two more pair because I'm fearful the next iteration won't be right for me. These Timps have changed my life! Love them!

I really like this shoe. Such a big improvement from the last two models that it's practically a new shoe. I am disappointed to see so many negative reviews because that means Altra will try reinventing it again. Please don't it's a great shoe. This is my go to for runs under ten miles. I weigh 200 lbs so I run in a thicker shoe for longer runs but this Timp 2 is great for short runs. Don't change too much.

I owned the first version of the Timp and loved them! Were they perfect? No, but they checked all the boxes for a trail running shoe for me along with having cushioning, while not feeling like you are walking on a bunch of tippy marshmallows. The toe box in the version 1.0 Timp were large and sloppy, but that was a trade off for me that was acceptable for the rest of the benefits. The 2.0 has fixed the sloppy toe box, while allowing the foot to spread out! Great job Altra! Don't believe the nay sayers. These shoes are awesome. Get a pair.

The first time I put the shoes on Instantly had no doubts. In fact all of my previous doubts or worries about the 1.5 were gone! The fit is more snug which means it cut out a lot of wiggle room for my feet to slide around which also means I didn't need to re tighten my shoe after running for a while. My heal locked in place and they are much lighter. It felt as if my shoe was a part of my foot. Much needed improvements. The sole is more solid which helps with the sharp rocks but still remains slippery on wet surfaces like wet rocks, logs, and roots. The other thing I'm a little unsure of is they got rid of the gaiter traps on both sides.... may not a big deal but I'll know more when winter comes around. Small flaws for a much upgraded shoe ! I plan on buying many more

I had always craved the toe splay of Altras but previously found their trail runners feeling sloppy, so was relegated to Hokas and other shoes. This iteration of the Timp fits perfectly, just enough room through the heel and mid-foot, and that sweet toe room. These feel very light and nimble, and also the nicest looking Altas from a design perspective! I have around 300 miles in them and holding up well.

Lot of desrepancies on this shoe in regarding reviews. But I have to say this shoe is amazing. Best fit I've had for an Altra yet. Coming from using superior 4s, lone peak 4, and Olympus 3.5. These take the cake. I'm 6'3 240 lbs wear I size 13 usually a EE or 4E in width, these fit perfect in everyway. True to size, plenty of toe room, secure around heel and not uncomfortable across top of foot, which was one of my complaints about the Olympus 3.5. Had em for about a month and a half now and still really satisfied with quality of tread, new quantic edge and outer. Great for long 10 mile hikes through some rough terrain around austin areas and gym as well. I'm pretty hard on shoes being so big and active daily with these I'm really suprised that they have remained so resilient up to date. Don't hesitate on these people. You wont regret getting them!
