I have ran with Altra shoes for a while now and the reason why I loved these shoes was because of the concept of being wide and foot shaped at the front. Also I believe the concept was for the shoes to accommodate runners like me who have wide and flat feet. The prior versions of TIMP we're very comfortable to wear ; being wide enough and having a softer upper shoe. This version 2.0 was not designed with a concept for a wide feet runner; tooo narrow(Hence the designer much have a narrow shoe size) in the front and the upper shoes material is made of a rough uncomfortable material. This is a terrible shoe to wear; I returned it the same day I received it. Looking for the prior version 1.5 online to buy.

I have had many pairs of Altras including the Timp 1.5s which fit much better in same size and lasted me ~2 years of weekly 5-10k Trail runs. The toebox in the new model is MUCH narrower, whats more it's ALSO LOWER in height, effectively squeezing the ball of my foot from both top and bottom. Sitting at my desk the front of my foot has gone numb. Love my other Altras but for trail I'm going to have to switch to Hokas which finally makes a wide.

I have been wearing Altras' for nearly a decade now. What attracted me to them was a recommendation from a friend who owned a shoe/outdoor clothes store in my hometown. Altras' were wide with plenty of room for my wide, flat feet. I found the perfect shoes for me. But, alas, over the last 1-2 years the shoes have been getting narrower, and the forefoot volume smaller and smaller. I noticed this first in the Lone Peak boots, then the Olympus, then the Paradigm, etc.. I basically live in my old Timps, until they stopped looking presentable and my wife said I looked shabby wearing them during the worst of COVid this late April. I finally threw them out, and I read the reviews, and I said, no not the the Timps. Well they are the worst. I ordered the same size as the old ones (11.5), and I can't even fit my foot into them with all the laces being slack. I even tried going laceless inside the house and they still dug in to my forefoot. I wish Altra would go back, admit that too much tweaking can be a bad thing---remember the really bad days of Microsoft. They turned it around, and I hope Altra does too. Bring back the old shoe dimensions and volumes and your new shoes won't just get 3 star rating. Sorry Altra, this is my first review, and I am sending the new version of the Timps back. Now I can't even buy the Superiors as they're out of stock...

Way too narrow, the "footshaped toe box" is essentially nonexistent. Would not recommend to anyone looking for the wider toe box or the feeling they used to get from Altra's shoes. I've been almost exclusively running in Altra shoes for about 4-5 years. I will say the Timp 1.5 needed improvements. What Altra did with the Timp 2 was absolutely ruin another shoe in their line. They needed to fix the heel not feeling locked in issue from the 1.5 and they've narrowed the entire feel in the shoe. Now only the heel feels comfortable and the rest of the shoe feels worse than a traditional running shoe. I'm happy to see other shoe brands are releasing more shoes with a wider toe box to get a piece of the market share that Altra is throwing away. I've contacted Altra on a few other shoes and the continue to say they will forward the customers displeasure and they continue to release bad shoes. In my opinion over the last 1-2 years Altra has decided to proceed as a zero drop shoe company and is phasing out the wider toe box which was the #1 reason I ever tried Altra in the first place.

My Timp 1.5's are my favorite shoes ever. When they wore out I got the 2.0's and they are incredibly narrow. They fit tight in the toebox, whereas the 1.5's were very roomy as you would expect from Altra. I had to send them back and am very disappointed. Looks like I have to find another shoe.

The new design of this shoe is terrible. The 1.5 was known for its roomy forefoot, and was outstanding. The new version is very tight.

Completely different than the 1.5 Very narrow and stiff, lost the great room in the toebox These now feel like any other shoe out there Very disappointed since the 1.5 is sold out in my size now Altra has gotten rid of everything that made the Timps unique and special

I am a huge Altra fan and thought I had found my ideal shoe with the TIMP. The 1.0's had a lot of potential but had obvious issues. The 1.5 version addressed every problem and was the perfect trail shoe. Why ruin it? The sizing is jacked up, they are too narrow, and the toebox isn't tall enough to prevent blisters.

I went through 5 pairs of the Timp 1.5 last season and was excited to try out the Timp 2.0. I had read the reviews about the reduced space in the toe box, but was optimistic that that it wouldn't be too bad as the 1.5 had a ton of room. Got my 2.0 and I couldn't get my foot in until I loosened all of the laces completely. The toe box appears to be the same width, but there is so little volume that it felt like I had a zip tie around my foot between the ball of the foot and the base of my pinky toe. The 1.5 might have had a little room much volume in that area - as all of mine eventually blew out the sidewall around the ball of my foot - but the adjustment was way too much. Hopefully the Timp 2.5 can find the middle ground.
I'd also recommend:
Altra usually, but looking around now :/

A wide midfoot and toe box is the "raison d'etre" of the Altra brand. i have run at least ten 100 milers in earlier versions of the Lone Peak and Timp. These shoes are way too stiff and narrow. They make me angry. Fire the entire product development team or just sell the brand to someone who has a cursory understanding of its customers.

I feel really unfortunate to have to rate this shoe so poorly after my stellar experiences with the Timp 1.5. That designed shoe was the best I've ever owned, and I've had well over a dozen pairs of Altras all the way back to the 1.5. Simply, the foot shaped toebox is....gone? I have wide feet and love the toe movement and control of Altra's. This design feels like a normal shoe. I ordered 12, which is what I fit in the 1.5, and straight out of the box I was hesitant at the very clearly more tapered toebox. Any room for toe expansion or movement is gone. Maybe a half size up would help but I think the length might get too long before the toebox gets volume enough, and unfortunately, I ordered these and can't return. Hopefully, with the next design iteration, they will remember why people buy Altra.

Like everyone else, I should have listened to the other reviews. This shoe is way to tight/narrow at the top and even a little in the toe box. Super disappointing. I literally took them out of the box, put them on and wore them for 10 minutes and immediately put them back in the box and returned them. I can say this is the first pair of Altras that I have ever had this experience with. Hopefully this will not be the trend across the brand.

This shoe is trying to fill a gap between the Olympus and Lone Peak, but more toward the Olympus design. I would prefer something closer the Lone Peak with a thicker stack. The TIMP 1.5 is the perfect show for me and I can't find them in my size any longer. I can't go back to Hoka because I love the true foot design on Altra. Hopefully Altra can bring back the 1.5 design.

The Timp 1.5 shoes are the most comfortable I have ever worn. I wanted to love the Timp 2.0 so badly, but they are tight enough that even just wearing them through the day, they cut off circulation on the top of my foot. What was the thought process behind narrowing all of your shoes and alienating half of your established customer base?? Have you all been looking at the reviews on all of your new shoes? Notice any trends?

I've run in Altras for many years and love the wide toe box and zero drop features that are standard on all Altras. If you run in Altras now or have become a fan, then you know the one thing you can definitely count on is a consistent fit across the Altra product line. If your foot feels great in an Escalante, it's highly likely its going to feel great in a Torin (and vice versa). On the rare occasion I've purchased Altras only to return them, it's been a matter of foot feel and preference. It's never been because of an issue with how the shoe itself fit. The great Altra fit I've always counted on came to a crushing end, however, with the Timp 2. There were comments/reviews stating that the fit was "different" or off from typical Atras, but I ignored them thinking there's no way. I wish I were wrong, but I knew the second I slid the Timps on. There's definitely less room in the shoe's upper. The tightness can be felt at the top of the laces and comes to a distinct pinching right above the big toe. No adjustment of the laces or walking around in the shoe could alleviate the pinching. The feel underfoot felt quite good and soft/comfortable without being too squishy or too hard. Had the shoe fit well, I would've kept them. But it wasn't even close.

The 1.5 was probably the most popular shoe on the PCT in 2019 - thousands of users buying 5 to 8 pairs to finish the hike, and it was really the only shoe on the market with this fit and long day comfort for swelling feet. The 2.0 has been streamlined for runners with smaller volume feet - perhaps it is a great fit now for those with "normal" feet. A lot of room has been lost here- not just width but quite a bit across the top, and toe room, which really helps with keeping toenails. Reviewers who are praising the new fit and criticizing the frustration of others are missing the point- Altra had two "lasts" for their trail line- a regular (Lone Peak, Olympus) and an XL high volume (Superior, Timp). Now that Altra has changed the last on the Timp, those wide or high-volume users are left with the Superior only- which is not beefy enough for long mile days, running or hiking. It does appear that the Olympus 4 may use a higher-volume last- just based on early photos that look like a Timp 1.5 on steroids. It seems like Altra is deliberately shifting those users to the Olympus- possibly because the Olympus has a longer life and is probably used less frequently by faster, shorter distance runners. It also has the Vibram megagrip that many thru-hikers are asking for. It would be nice if Altra could be more forthcoming with drastic changes to their products, especially one with a huge following- the early Timp converted thousands of users to Altra because of the fit. If they are phasing out the high-volume foot-shaped shoes, they should tell us so we can move on to a new brand.

ALL my shoes are ALtra's. I ran the older version of Timps, and I have the Lone Peaks. I needed a new shoe, tried the Timps in a half size bigger, too tight on the top of the foot and not as wide as I expected, base on the older models. Not a fan of the changes in this shoe.

I have been an incredible fan of the original TIMP trail shoe...right out of the box they fit perfectly in all the places other brands crowd and tear up my feet. I have run four of these pairs well over 1500 miles. I was excited to try the TIMP 2.0 as the upgrades seemed promising. Out of the box, I could barely drive my foot into the shoe with laces completely removed. The area across the bottom of the laces has been reduced a good half inch, and the angled lacing opening of the TIMP original is now a typical straight pattern. I tried wearing the shoes for the day hoping for some stretch... what I got was incredible pain across the area where your toes hinge at the foot and a mega blister on my outside big toe. This shoe is a disaster of a design change and confirms what every runner should know... if it doesn't feel good out of the package, send it back! Listen to your customers Altra, you HAD a great product with a following and you've messed it up!!

Wow, compared to the previous version, this shoe is tiny. My foot is so cramped in it that I cannot use it. Across the ball of my foot, at the base of the laces, there is simply not enough material. This is roughly my 20th pair of Altras. I buy them because they are foot shaped. These aren't. After 20 miles, I'm throwing them out...

This shoe SUCKS. After the original Timp, IDK what Altra was thinking, but too tight, too narrow and too small. Took everything I loved about the original and flushed it down the drain. What a disappointment. Back to searching for a brand that fits like the original Timp. If, under bottom line, I could select "Heck No", I would...my frustration is palpable and I just don't understand why a company would go and completely JACK UP a great original Mod 1?????????????

As much as I wanted to like Altra, running has become uncomfortable for the first time in my life (running ultras for over a decade). This is after giving Altra shoes a solid 4 months (5 separate models). The Timp 2.0 confirmed that Altra is like every other shoe company out there. They only care about keeping engineers/designers in business. Way too tight around the metatarsal bones and weak, soft foam under the feet. "Run better" and "run how you were born to" would be believable if the fastest runners in the world wear them (most don't). If zero drop was beneficial, other companies would do it (very few do). I've seen more Altra elites with calf/achilles/plantar injuries than I'd care to count. If anyone is paying attention, numerous elite athletes are leaving Altra. Acompanied with the Timp 2.0 ridiculous geometry, this a clue that Altra is going downhill fast. I'm adding Altra to the list of wasted time and money for a gimmick.

I appreciate how Altra has tried to improve their shoes over the years. My "go to" shoes have been the Olympus, the Torin, and the Timp. Unfortunately I am at a loss because every shoe gets narrower and narrower with every passing model. Despite loving everything else about these shoes they are now too narrow for me to wear. I wish I didn't have to leave my Altras behind, but what else am I to do?

Less cushion and way more narrow than the 1.5's. It's annoying to have to play around with shoe sizing to force a shoe to fit right, but, with no wide sizing, that's what one is reduced to doing. Maybe the new Olympus this year will take the Timp's place, like the Timp seems to be doing to the Lone Peak's (bc the LP's barely have cushioning at all anymore!). The wide version of the Hoka Speedgoat 4 might be worth a try instead until then. (Or stock up on the 1.5's)
