love these! comfortable from the moment you buy them, super lightweight, loads of traction, all in a zero drop footbed. i hike 5-10 miles most every day and these instantly replaced my beloved 3.5s as my go-to shoes.

Now make this all weather, waterproof in several colors. Otherwise all Altras are superb. Am a return customer.

Excellent update. Durability, fit, midsole firmness, support and lacing have all been updated to really shine. Just about my perfect trail shoe! Waiting for a mid version now!

These shoes have an interesting shape. They are closer to the shape of your actual foot than they are to a “normal” athletic shoe. When I first wore them, my feet felt odd, not being squeezed at the toes. After adjusting to them, they quickly became my favorite pair, and worn daily. I initially had some concerns over longevity, but they have held up very well for nearly two years (and I am 6'6", 280#). Times for another pair of Altras, I only wish they made more styles in size 16.

Great fit and very lightweight. However, I do feel that the overall the shoes are a bit thinner than Lone Peak 4

This shoe looked awesome, but I’ll never know because it was to small to wear. I wear size 15 in many other brands. Length was to short. I had to return. I can’t comment on other aspects since I couldn’t wear long enough to rate.

The Doctor who did my surgery for a hammer toe recommended that I go to wearing Altra shoes because of the 0 heel to toe drop and the wider toe box. I was hesitant due to having a quite narrow foot, but so far, it has seemed to be beneficial during my recovery.

Have hiked rim to rim 3 times at Grand Canyon over last 4 years...all with Altra Lone Peak. Even though they were different Lone Peak always comfortable and light. I hike 100 miles per Month and the rubber in front always separates after couple hundred miles otherwise wear well. ( Altra..put a couple of stitches in rubber toe and problem solved).

liked this shoe on a couple of snow runs I did recently - I like a little less cushion in soft environments like snow in this case - or muddy conditions in the not so distant future -

I bought a pair of Escalante Racers last year and they've been the best running shoe I've ever worn. They feel like clouds. I struggle to find shoes wide enough yet not too long for my short stubby feet, and in the Escalante I've found what appears to be the perfect fit. Wanting the same for trails, I bought a pair of Lone Peaks a few weeks ago. I went a half-size up as I heard that they ran a little smaller/narrower. They are a tiny bit bigger than I'd like, but still a good fit. The Lone Peaks are almost as lightweight and comfortable as the Escalante Racers, with excellent traction. I've been running on snow and ice with them and never felt more secure in my footing. My only complaint is the god-awful heel. For some unknown reason it curves inward towards the ankle more than the Escalante, and where the pull loop on the back is stitched in at the top, there is a hard ridge of stitches that has been digging into the back of my ankles and shredding them, even through socks. The shoes are almost perfect other than this one irritating flaw, and I can only hope Altra modifies subsequent versions.

Lone Peak 4.5 is comfort and footbed wide enough to move. The cushioning is more than enough hence steps feel not solid slightly when I am running. But it is very good for trail walking.

To start I'm a Superior lover. I don't like not having a removable stone guard, I don't like the inside seam( superior's are seamless inside), and the double pinky-finger heel pull is useless. It's more of a shoe than a hiking shoe. I'll definitely stick to my Superior's

The only problem, besides getting a fairly used shoe instead of a brand new one, is that the back part or "tail" keeps hurting my achilles heel and I can't use them unless I have long socks on which is a real bummer. But I really love them. I also experienced a real smooth transition from my previous shoes (6mm drop).

Love Altra's Lone Peak trail running shoes. I've had several pairs. They are so comfortable and have a good grip. I have Morton's neuroma but can hike in these shoes without pain. For that, I am forever grateful. However, Altra (like so many shoes out there) are "one summer of happiness" shoes. The durability aspect of these shoes needs working on. I wish Altra would work on this because it would truly set them apart as a shoe company.

First I want to say I'm not going to make a Science project out of this review. I'm not a runner. I don't care about running. I'm a guy with wide feet that has trouble finding shoes that fit my feet. Well, these shoes fit perfect, feel great to walk around and explore trails in. I can wear them ALL day without any discomfort. I wish they had a bit more rise in the heel. Otherwise I'm very happy with them.

Sole traction is like a dirt bike tire, and with the way the low heel works, it's almost impossible to roll my ankle on a rock or a root. Took a few runs to break in but they are super comfortable. A great off road action shoe. I'll buy another pair once I wear these out.

Much improved overall to the Lone Peak 3. If only Altra would make a shoe with the uppers like this Lone Peak and the lower of the Olympus 4, that would be a great shoe!

I am on my second pair of these completing a 50k ultra on my first set. Stability and rigidity are lacking, however if the trail surface is sparse; they'll do great. I often run on well worn single track and crushed stone paths. These do great for me, if you're going to be doing more technical trails/rocky loose terrain then I would consider another option. I had some durability issues with my first set, the second one seems to be doing fine. I would also rate the cushion level as low or minimal instead of moderate as the site suggests.

I've loved the Lone Peak for years. This one has been cut down on the outside of the toe box. Now my outside toes rub. Very sad about this, and I hope it was just a fluke on this version. Looking forward to the next version.

This is a great trail shoe, a bit soft but still I liked it. Before even 100 miles of trail running the outsole at the toe started peeling away and the upper started tearing a bit. For the price point of these shoes I would expect better durability but they are definitely comfortable and the outsole grip is amazing. I did return them under Altra's warranty guarantee and got a new pair delivered pretty easily so their customer service and return policy was great.

Comfortable and feels great to run in, but a full half size larger compared to previous versions. I used to run in a size 10 in the Lone Peak 3, and that shoe has the exact same length as the size 9.5 in the Lone Peak 4.5. Don't know when they changed the size of the foot last so drastically, but they definitely did.

This is my first pair of Altras so take this review for what it's worth . Have only done one run which was 6 miles and 1,000 ft of elevation gain so it's a very small sample size. But first thought comfortable shoe . I buy wides in other brand shoes so I was excited to see what the hype was about with the shaping of Altra shoes . Let me just say it's true. Way more roomie in the fore foot. They fit great. Other reviews say that the 4.5 are too narrow and I haven't worn any others but I'll tell you this, way more room in the 4.5 compared to other brand shoes. Happy with my buy so far. Also I wear 10 in 99 percent of running shoes and the 10 in the lone peak 4.5 fit perfect . Only gave 4 stars because I can see how the shoe might not last as long as other shoes so waiting to see how durable they really are . Also waiting to see if the cushion flats out like other ppl say but so far I'm impress with the comfort and the softness of the shoe. Can feel the trail well and have plenty of comfort so far. 6 miles is a short run but I'd probably wear these shoes possibly up to 20 mile runs but further than that I think I'd go with a more cushioned sole shoe . Happy with this product and if you have issues with rubbing near your pinking toe and just below that causes pain that just can't be ignored then give these a shot .
