I have worn through countless pairs of lone peaks. The 4s were my favorite, the 3s were ok. These 4.5s are a disgrace and that's as kind as I can put it. Why on earth would you trim down the toe box on the lone peak? My feet do not fit in these my toes are smashed together, if altra doesn't fix the toe box on the next generation I'll never buy another shoe from them for the rest of my life. I'm beyond frustrated

Hiked the PCT. I used 2 pair (out of 5) of Lone Peaks. Really good fit and comfortable, but the 1st pair started delaminating after the 2nd weeks and my big toe was sticking out the side the third week. The 2nd pair started delaminating and tearing on the inside after two weeks. I was able to glue them enough to make another 3 weeks. Try Solomon Triple Crown. They are way more durable.

The Lone Peak 4 was my first pair of Altras. They were exceptionally comfortable right out of the box. I purchased these in the hopes they would be similar. Not a chance! Toe box much too narrow and had two huge blister on my Achilles within the first two miles. Buy the Olympus instead. It is what the Lone Peak used to be

I purchased these shoes, wore them in the house for the day, and then went on a 10 mile hike with them. The shoes lacked any rigidity whatsoever and were unstable on uneven surfaces. Moreover, in attempting to be light, the shoe also lacks any cushioning, despite the claims of a patented "stone guard". About 5 miles on a rocky part of the trail my feet hurt so badly I had to change into my Chacos. Overall, the shoe lacks rigidity and therefore stability, and is the functional equivalent of hiking in an inexpensive pair of flip flops.

Other than them falling apart at the toe 20 miles in, extremely comfortable right out of the box. I really like them but can't pay a high price for a shoe that does not hold up. Altra was good about exchanging but am I supposed to exchange every pair to keep the durability. On the hunt for a shoe that is as comfortable as this one but better quality for this price point.

I love Altras and I love the trails. Unfortunately, the Lonepeaks aren't great. Prior to owning these shoes, the last time I rolled an ankle on a run was in high school 6-years ago. While wearing these shoes on a trail for the first time, I rolled them 3-times in the same run. I typically run in Superiors and will be switching back to them in the future. I would not recommend these shoes under any circumstance. For whatever reason, their stack height and their grip don't mesh well.

Have been trail running and hiking in Lone Peak shoes for several years. The 4.5 version is wearing out quickly (see photo). I purchased these in early March of this year. Much older Lone Peaks that I have look way better than these newer shoes (older versions show no sign of wear in the areas shown).

Hiked 25 miles over two days on the AT in these and the toecap on both shoes started coming off around mile 10. Due to the way the heel is positioned, my Achilles is extremely sore and uncomfortable. Started feeling that way around mile 8 in these shoes. Everything also feels very thin on these shoes so you feel every single rock that you happen to step on. Will be returning these and likely going back to Salomons.

Took them on a 4 mile test drive before doing the four pass loop with them and glad I did. Got my first blister in 10 years just doing four miles. The fit is fine, the fact that, for some reason they made them more narrow is fine, but the heel rub so you have that stupid loop in the back that nobody uses anyways ??? It's hard to believe these weren't tested before being released.

As another person said, the heal tab extends to the inside of the shoe, and digs into the back of your foot. This is ridiculous, especially when the heal tab is too small to even get a finger in to be used. I sent the first pair back because of this, and the second was the same. I will be staying with my Salomons.

I wanted to love this shoe so bad, but it doesn't love me back.. Compared to the Paradigm 4.5, the Lone Peak actually felt great around my foot. Until I noticed the back of my ankle being rubbed raw. As soon as I felt around the collar of the shoe, I found what caused it. The collar does not have enough padding to take into account that the heel tab on the Lone Peak 4.5 is about 3 times thicker and more rigid than the other Altras. You can easily feel the heel tab protruding the collar padding. Was really disappointed with this problem since I believe it to be such an obvious design flaw that could have been avoided if someone actually tested out the shoe prior to production. I love the fit of the shoe, but not having blisters on the back of my ankle is more lovely.

Been running with Altra for 5 years, used several types and versions. Switched to lone peak back 3.5, then 4, no problem ever. Never had to break in or even feel the difference. But these 4.5, so disappointed. Love the shoe, the fact that it is more rigid is great. But they changed he angle of the ankle cup and I just an't run in them. After only putting 40 miles on them ( I wanted to give them a chance) the back of my ankle is just bloody, blistered and have to cut most of my runs short as I ant bare it. Sadly can't seem to find the 4.0 anymore.

I own a pair of the Altra Lone Peak 4.0 shoes and I just love them. Most comfortable shoe I have ever owned. Just received my new pair of 4.5 and they changed the width of the mid-shoe right where the laces start. It is so narrow that it hurts my foot instantly as I put them on. Why did they ruin a great shoe? I really liked the large toe box in the old 4.0 version.

I've had probably every iteration of Lone Peak's since they came out. This is the first pair I've owned where the sole feels way too thin. Not sure if it's a different material, weaker rock plate or what. But they are too thin. Would not recommend. Wish I'd returned them but I immediately wore them on long hikes after getting them. I can feel the tread thru the sole.

I am a HUGE fan of Altra shoes and have been for the last several years. That's why it is so hard to write this review. In my opinion, the changes they made to the shoes upper in the Lone Peak 4.5 completely wrecked the fit of the shoe. I don't even have high arches and the difference in volume between the 4.5 and my old 3.5's was significant. The 4.5's are so tight across the top of my foot it created a huge hot spot. I am so disappointed! I thought I'd finally found a shoemaker I could stay with for the long haul. But if they don't fix this in their next model... I'm out!

The shoe so far seems well made. The insoles are worthless. I can't believe a company would put such cheap insoles in such such an expensive shoe. I bought the shoe based on what I heard from hikers. What I didn't know was I would need to spend another 30-50 dollars to buy new insoles.

Altra seem to have joined the narrow shoe cargo cult. RIP good shoes. I had the LP 4, and ordered these hoping they'd fit the same. They are long and narrower. I also have one of their shoes from about 5 years go, and it was consistent length with the lone peak 4, and slightly wider. Historically Altra length sizing was a a whole or half size shorter than other shoes. That has changed too. Brands should be consistent to their own sizing. Now they are in line with the industry. They only cater to narrow feet like most brands and matched their lengths to most brands.

Initially started out with the LP 4s and I absolutely love them. I have a wide toe box so these are perfect for my foot shape. The LP 4.5s are a totally different shoe and fit. I went for a short 5 mile run to break them in and I had blisters within 3 miles. Hopefully Altra goes back to the fit of the LP 4. If you are in love with the fit and feel of the LP 4 I would suggest skipping over the 4.5s and buy another pair of 4s.

The size of the shoe still feels great as compared to previous LP versions. However, the throat and vamp of the shoe width is more true to a B narrowness than D due to the design and the fabric choice. Each iteration of LP has become more and more narrow at the point. Just wearing it for 5 minutes to try it on has left a hot spot and lingering soreness on the top of the feet. Sending it back in the mail already. Only buy it if you have relatively narrow feet. This is no longer a good choice for a running shoe for wider feet.
