So far I've ran in the Lone Peak 1.5, 2.5 and 3.0. I took a Hoka hiatus for a few years and am transitioning back to Altra after I struck up a hot romance with the Torin 4. I JUST (and when I say just I mean a few hours ago) bought a pair of LP 4.5's. Why? When I tried them on... even though they feel like they lost some squishy cush cush and compared to the Torin they are more firm... I believe this is just what the Dr. ordered when it comes to single track. They fit like a glove and compared to say... the 3.0 they have definitely shifted some of the 25mm stack height from the midsole to the outsole. (Just Google some pics to compare yourself.) I've realized this firmness is a far better match for single track than high cush cush which can sap your energy return after a while. I'd say these are going to be great for long training runs and races at least up to 50k's. For races longer I might try the Timp 2.0 or Olympus. That means 90% of my training miles would be well served by the LP 4.5's. Can't wait to run in them. Out of the box I am very happy but Lone Peak vets should understand that these are more 1.5 Lone Peaks vs 2.5-3.5 Lone Peaks.

I've been trail running in Altra Lone Peak for 4 years. My two previous pairs were LP 3.0 so I was excited to finally move up to the 4.5. Unfortunately these seem to lack support around the top front foot area. It could be the material but seems to more to the issue than that? My 3.0s fit more snug (not tight) and feel more supported around the front foot. My foot has too much movement and instability in the LP 4.5. They are the same size as my 3.0 (11) and I don't want to downsize as they might feel too tight. I'll try adding supports to see if that helps?

I love and have loved Altras in the past, -these are my 7th pair. (Lone Peak 2, Lone Peak 3, One Racer, Escalate, Superior 2 and others) Saying that, the last two pairs (Solstice and Lone Peak 4.5) have felt a lot more narrow across the ball of my foot. I have high arches and wide feet and I've loved Altras for the zero drop AND foot shaped toe box, but I'm getting to a point that I don't know if I can wear them any more. The Solstice broke in and got looser after wearing them around the house and I've now logged about 200m miles in them.
So I hoped the same thing would happen with my Lone Peak 4.5. I wore them around the house for a week and decided to take them for a test run (pus it was snowy!) I jogged 4 miles and where the bottom of the tongue is sewn into the shoe there seemed to be a lot of pressure, so I loosened the laces. 2 days later I tried again, this time within a mile I was hurting bad enough to stop. I relaced them, so the lower holes didn't have any laces, to be as loose as possible, but tied at the top so they stayed on. I was able to make it another 4 miles. The top of my right foot, above my big toe has been bruised ever since. I haven't run in them in over a week, and back in the house the only way they are tolerable is if I take out the insoles and don't tie them. I want to love them so bad. I started with Lone Peaks 6 years ago, tried Superiors but they were tight in the forefoot 4 years ago so I switched back to the Lone Peak 3 in 2019 and have put over 1000 miles on them. I wish I could get another pair of those.
I get the feeling people must be complaining that the Altras are too sloppy, but that is an element of allowing your toes to splay. I wish Altra would makes an old sloppy version to stick to the principles on which they were established. Obviously if there are some narrow footed people out there enjoying Altras then they could offer narrower models, instead of changing the really quality shoes I loved.
Traction is great, quality is there as always, upper feels nice, but is simply too tight. My only hope now is that I can get them to work without the insoles!

The shoes are great in the toe box area but narrow in the instep. They are supposed to be liberal in that area. I loosened the laces as wide as possible ( they do not come in wide - medium only . My. First pair have come unglued in the side.

Wonderful cushion. Used for light running on trails a lot of hiking and daily use.
I had to literally buy thicker socks just to wear these shoes. The loop hole on the back, comes into the heel padding, and well rubs your heel raw. Raw to the point after 4 miles i could not go any further and the shoes have been blood stained since. SO i wont run in these unless i have to.
I love the traction, I like the fit, I should have went with the thicker sole, but i was still impressed with the cushion these have. Remove that stupid loop of the shoe and you have a solid shoe!!

Have owned several previous versions o the Lone Peak and loved them. Each pair had over 500 hard trail miles from long distance trail runs to multi day backpacking trips in the Sierras. The 4.5's delaminated at the toe after a single 19 mile day hike in preparation for the JMT. Returned those and the second pair did the exact same thing after a 2 day 30 mile backpacking trip. I love the shoe but I can't afford for my only mode of transportation to fail on me so far into the backcountry.

Liked the shoe until my heel bruise. After 6 miles my foot was finished. I do light weight backpacking and loved the 3.5. Now I have moved to the Olympus and it is the best.

The terrain I have locally varies from smooth and fast to very technical with many sharp edged loose rock. On the smooth fast terrain the shoe feels great. Lots of traction and they feel very fast. However, on the more technical terrain, I do not feel they perform as well. The rough terrain painfully jabbed my feet resulting in light bruising. The loose fit seemed to allow my foot to roll around inside the shoe a little more than I was comfortable with as well. At times it feels as if I'm running on the uppers as the shoe twists around my foot. I'd like to see a stone guard insert available, I believe they've been offered in the past.

I Love these shoes!!! Perfect fit and perfect balance between light weight and foot protection. Hiked 12 miles and truly believed I found my shoe! Sadly, the sole is already separating from the shoe. Oh no!,, what a total bummer. Only 12 miles.

The LP4.5 has held up better than the LP 4.0's I have had in the past however the heel redesign and lower cut has caused issues. For me the heel seems to have too much "cup" to it. On uphill climbs I can feel the heel cup dig into my Achilles. The lower cut seems to cause a lot more debris to enter the shoe. Sure I could buy the gaiters but I would look silly wearing those when walking the dog around the local park. All in all I feel the 4.5 is not as good as the 4.0 for fit but the 4.5 seems to be more durable than the 4.0.

I use these for doing regular 4 mile hike that is moderate terrain. I really like the feel but not impressed with many areas pulling apart. Hope the new version is better quality as I otherwise like the shoes

I used this shoe for hiking and running the White Mountains in New Hampshire. This is my first Altra shoe and tested it out. The shoe looks awesome and very comfortable. Grip is awesome as well, their outsole grip is one of the best. However, I found two red flags that can be improved. First one is like other comments, it gave me a blister on my right upper heel. After a mile, I can already feel something rubbing on my archilles heel. Also it needs more toe protection, I feel that they can put more design in the toe side so that way in protects the toe from rocks when going down the mountain.

As some have mentioned, the cushioning is minimal compared to the TIMP 1.5's I had. That is not a deal breaker, but I absolutely agree with the pain in the Achilles area. I think it is a seem that runs directly down the middle of the outer shoe that can be felt through the cushioning. I have been trying to lace differently but haven't found a winner yet. The shoe isn't sliding up and down...it's just an area. Luckily I am only feeling it on one foot. It is a shame that my hope is that I grow a callous back there.

Overall the shoe is good. Aesthetic is pleasing, the grip on the sole is very good. Only negative I have is not enough toe protection. I hike 4000 footers here in the northeast and when I'm going down hill I can feel my toe hitting the rocks and I can see and feel the bruise on my toes.

I love this shoe. Sadly, I had to switch modes because they made a more narrow version of the previous shoe I wore so had to get these which has a wide sole. I bought two pairs and within a few weeks, both of the shoes starting falling apart. The front of the sole became detached of one pair and the other pair has the sides separating off the issue. I didn't take them once on a trail and they started falling apart. Super disappointed because they're super comfortable. Not durable at all for the price

Altras are a "unique" shoe that is currently popular and probably great for some people. I bought them for the wide, round forefoot, hoping they would not rub my long third tow, but they do. I exchanged for a size larger but had the same problem. Also I need a little bit of arch support. Glad to have a chance to try Altras, but have to return this one and keep looking.

I've found these to quite comfortable and run true to size and despite other reviewers being disappointed with the width, it felt perfect for my feet. Less sloppy than the LP 4.0s and better heel lock and also pretty good grip. My issue is with them is that they don't handle uneven terrain well. Any amount of side-hilling or running over rocky terrain felt dangerous, because the shoe got all wobbly. I like some amount of flexibility in a shoe but these have far too much of that imo. This degree of flexibility reminded me of some of my barefoot shoes and that works with those because of the negligible stack but when the stack height is 25mm like these, it doesn't work, thus the wobble. That's my theory, anyway. I think a little more structure on these would help a lot. I'll keep an eye out for the next update.

Really love how these shoes feel while hiking and walking. I have been using them since the 3 and the build quality seems to just continually go down. Bring back the build of the 3/3.5. And when the heck is Altra going to fix the front peeling issue that has plagued these shoes for years?

These were great shoes. I've been wearing this brand/model for about 3 years now. Every since lone peak 3 I believe. I had bunion surgery and the wide toe box was a blessing to my toes. Sure, I only got about 3 months out of them( roughly 600km), but they felt great. Fast forward to the 4 and 4.5 models. I'm not sure what they did different but the backs of my heal hit rub the shoe. Hard. Size hasn't changed since my first pair. I'd worn the model 4 for about 2 months when I had to get a new shoe. So I went and got the 4.5 and now it's even worse!! Not sure what's done differently but not a big fan of the new design.

Trail running, shoes are awesome for the 3 runs I have gotten out of three different pairs. Terrible design with the soft material near the toes. Pictured below are my third run in these shoes on moderate terrain.

I've put nearly 2000 miles on lone peaks over the last few years. A couple pairs of 2.5's a pair of 4's, and now I'm 120+ miles into my 4.5's. They are decent, but not as foot friendly as the 4's or the 2.5's. I've never gotten even a hot spot in the 2.5's or the 4's. Now, any run over 20 miles in the 4.5 I always get a blister inside my left foot. I will continue to train mid distances in them, but will be searching diligently for another set of 4's for my longer run days.

After about a minute of walking, rubbing against the right heel collar was quite noticeable. I really wanted to like these shoes and decided to see if they would settle in. But within 10 minutes, rubbing against both heel collars had become severe enough that I had to turn back. Both of my upper heels were chafed; my right sock had a little blood on it. I have not had this problem with any other shoe. A few reviews mention heel rubbing with the 4.5s, but this is my first pair of Altras, so I am hesitant to try another one until it gets fixed.

I had I hopes for these 4.5's, but alas, the bloody blister on the inside of my right foot ankle is my reason for disappointment and hence, I must return them. The heel collar material in that spot seems to buckle inward and cause irritation, as opposed to my 4.0's... In my pics, the all black shoe is the 4.5's and the black shoe with red stitching is the 4.0's. That area was obviously redesigned and lost "bracing" to properly support the material... PLEASE Altra, I LOVED my 4.0's. PLEASE go back to WHAT WORKS...
