I am a woman, 5'8", 145, run 35-40 miles a week in the winter on dirt roads and some pavement, and 30-45 miles per week in the spring/summer/fall on trails. Whenever I go to a shoe store, I gravitate to the colors of men's shoes. The shoe expert there always measures my foot, size 10.5-11, tells me I am a normal width in a women's shoe, and I try on a shoe and it feels a little too snug. I've been running in the Nike Wildhorse/Pegasus trail for a long time. I finally tried the Escalante 2.0 men's shoe this winter and fell in love. I put about 300 miles on those (was impressed with their life given reviews I had read about Altra). I bought the men's Lone Peak 4.5 a month ago and have enjoyed each of the 125 miles I have on them. Don't usually write reviews, but decided to just because I would've gone this route long ago had I read about someone else in a similar position!

I have wider feet and have been gravitating towards Altra. This is a great shoe with good traction, good cushioning, stability, and comfort. I really like this shoe and wear them even when not on the trail. They are nice looking, but on the plain side. I would recommend these for sure.

Coming into my 3 rd pair of Altra with my first being the Lonepeak 4.0 which I still have and will continue to use around the house/yard - love them. I did also just purchase the Torin and like the reviews states, it's not the wide flat toe box that the Lonepeak provides. Purcahsed those for a high cushion shoe for just paved trail where the LonePeak is more aggressive than what's needed. So far the LonePeak feels fantastic. My foot splays and it makes sense a huge difference. This is the shoe that changed me.

Awesome shoe for hiking and trail running on more technical terrain. The built-in rock guard keeps your feet happy on even the sharpest rocks.

Wet trail, dry trail, road, walk, run and work. Great shoe. I wish I had a few more so I didn't have to wear the same pair so often.

I've always had trouble finding the right shoe. I have very high arches and most shoes include too much arch support causing me to run on the outside of my foot, run slower, and develop tendinitis. This natural foot shape and perfect support allows me to run more naturally than I ever had. I never thought of myself as a cross country runner until this shoe. Would buy again 10/10.

Size seems right on. Wide in the forefoot, which is perfect for trail runners/lightweight backpacking shoes. No issues at all after 100 mostly trail miles.

Fit great. I wish they had a little more arch support, but I can fix that with inserts. I know people have had questions about Altra's quality, but these shoes have been great for the few weeks that I've had them.

This is a truly amazing shoe. I got this shoe after wearing and using the previous 3 versions of the shoe (LP 3, LP 3.5, LP 4). I use the shoe for backpacking, hiking, and trail running. The fit of the shoe is the highlight, the LP 4.5 has an updated mid foot and toe box that fits super well. The mid foot is slightly more narrow and hugs the foot better than previous versions of the shoe. This narrowing of the mid foot allows my toes to not hit the front of the shoe when hiking downhill. Toe jamming on steeper declines was a problem I had with the previous iterations of the LP. The update to the toe box is the single best improvement in this shoe. The toe box is even more roomie than previous versions, mostly due to there being more space for the big toe and a later curve on the lateral side of the toe box. I cannot express enough how nice the room in the toe box is, my toes can actually splay in the shoe and I have so much more balance in the shoe! The cushion in the shoe is thinner and firmer than previous versions which I think is a massive improvement. In prior versions the cushion was too plush and would break down and cause the footing to be unstable. Along with the instability I also could not really feel the ground at all, which causes me to feel more instability, these issue felt fixed with the new improvement to this shoe. In conclusion, this is an amazing shoe! And I think this is by far the best Lone Peak that has been made. I hope the next versions continue to follow the direction this shoe is going, more footshaped and minimal!

Finished the border to badlands 50 miler in these in 10:54. Not a single blister. Boudreaux's Buttpaste lathered on my feet, plus smart wool PhD ultra socks, plus lone peak 4.5 = no feet issues. Love these shoes! #ultrexpeditions

I just transitioned from hiking boots (Merrill [yuk] & Salomon [hot feet]) to my first trail runners (LP 4.5). Man! Am I happy that I did. Put about 30 miles on them...mostly on Hawaiian Lava trails. I expected to have ripped the soles up after hiking the big island...nope! Wide toe box and very breathable as my usually sweaty and swollen feet (thanks Gortex) experienced neither (thanks, Altra).

Best shoe I've ever owned! They have made improvements which only made these better! Thru hiked the PCT last summer in the 4.0s and these are even better for long or short distance hiking and backpacking. I've bought many different styles of Altras since hiking the PCT because they are incredibly comfortable, the wider toe box sets them apart from a normal everyday shoe!! Highly highly recommend!

i got the Lime pair and the Carbon Blue pair. im in love with these shoes. the most comfortable shoes i have ever worn. i used to wear Salomon Odyssey Triple Crown Magic's till i tried some Altra Lone Peak 4.5's. ill never go back to Salomon now. i can't give people a fair assessment on how they compare to previous iterations, but i feel like these shoes were tailored to my feet. im taking these two pairs with me on the 776 mile Shikoku Henro trail. im real confident they will be the best thing for my feet.

I ordered another brand online and while it was comfortable it was not my size. I scheduled a day off so my long run at Uhwarrie had to happen. I bought these from a brick and mortar store and went on a 10 mile run through mud, scree, rocks and stream crossings. A mile in I felt a hot spot but adjusted the lacing and there were no other issues. I am an old runner, on this day in theory I was doing everything wrong, running distance on a new shoe, first run ever on a zero drop minimalist shoe. They were fine in mud, lugs far enough apart to have it not stick, good on granite bolders and wet rocks on stream crossings. They drained well and seemed to dry quickly. I loved feeling the trail and could read well what was going on under my feet and was protected enough that rocks and roots caused no bruising. I was not familiar with the brand and with what I read about no drop shoes worried me, even the suggestions on the box worried me about buying them and just heading out to do a long run. I had a great time and feet and legs are fine. Will buy again and glad I took a chance.

This ran about a 1/2 size larger than the Superior (I'm a nine in the Superior but had to move up to a 9.4 with these). But great fit and comfort as I transition to Altras from Merrells and Asicss. In combination with Injinji toe socks, I plan to be back on the trails soon.

I have had several pairs of Altra and when it was time to update I ordered a pair of Timp 2's and the Lone Peak 4.5's. The Timps have become too narrow in the mood and forefoot and went back The LP 4.5's seem to carry on the characteristics that I know and love about Altra. Please stay true to this formula when it's time for the 5's! Love them.

Hands down the best trail runners you can get right now. I run through the muddy, rocky hills of Vermont, even in the snow with these and they're perfect. Also my go-to hiking shoes, especially for big mileage days. Altra also has the best customer service I've had with any outdoor brand, the ease of returns and exchange is unparalleled. If you spend a lot of hours on the trail, buy these shoes.

I wear a size 16 so finding trail shoes is nearly impossible. All the ones I have had in the past weren't that great. These, however, are awesome. Comfortable and great grip.

I am mainly a road runner but purchased these for a 50K trail race I had signed up for. I neglected to train in these and continued to slug away at road miles in another pair of shoes. When race day finally came I was fearful to run in these but did it anyway. Right out of the box I ran 31 miles in these shoes and they felt great. I had zero hotspots, blisters or rubbing anywhere, they fit like a glove. I am a believer, and will continue to purchase these shoes for all things trail! I cannot say enough great things about these shoes, I just love them.

Picked up a pair today and I believe there are some solid improvements over the previous versions. Compared to the 4, the upper around the toe box does seem to have slightly less width. However, the insole and outsole of the shoe are the same width as the 4. For me, this slight reduction in upper width is actually a benefit on technical trails as my foot won't move around as much. Combined with the new tongue and midfoot, this model is a much better fit and is less sloppy. Even with this, there is still plenty of room for toe splay and the upper will probably stretch some anyways.
