Great fit and comfortable right out of the box. I’ve only worn them for only two days (20 miles) and they are perfect.

So, let me first off say I really really do enjoy every aspect of this shoe! Weight is amazing, comfort is amazing, and honestly I like the style and the color (I have the green ones). This is my first pair of Altra shoes, and since I bought these less than 3 months ago I have since bought a pair for my wife and a pair of their boots since these were absolutely amazing! I have hiked several different technical trails in MT with these shoes, and I have done more than a dozen trail runs with them as well. The grip is unreal, and the non-cramped toe box is amazing! If you ever do a lot of hiking or running downhill these are the shoes for you! I will also touch on the quality for a min...I have seen several reviews on how the quality of these shoes is low. However, I do not entirely agree with that statement. Although these shoes do seem a little less durable than some other brands I believe this is the trade off for a lighter shoe. Also, in my opinion I prefer to have a lighter shoe even if it sacrifices a little durability. So with that being said, if you plan to just beat the absolute mess out of your shoes, maybe you should try a different pair. However, if you do not throw these shoes against rocks, and you do not purposely try and cut these are shale or anything of that sort I believe these shoes are just as durable as any other trail running shoe. I think a lot of the issues people have with these shoes falling apart is just due to having a fluke accident and hitting a rock or some other object perfectly on the top part of the shoe where every shoe is the weakest. Again though, that is just my personal opinion from owning these shoes for a couple of months and comparing them to my Salomon Speedcross 3's (of which I had owned 2 pairs of the years). I honestly have a lot more great things to say about these shoes and Altra's in general, but there is not enough room to write it all cause these reviews are limited to a certain word count. You wont regret it!

I have owned two pair of Lone Peaks and am buying my third pair today. Over the past several years, this has been a great shoe for trail running. I read a few reviews from others on this site saying the shoe wore out quickly or lacked stability during wet conditions. I haven't found either of these statements to be the case. I have run many trail races in the past 3-4 years, including two Uwharrie 20M trail races. My Lone Peaks have been great. Several other guys in my trail running group own Lone Peaks, and to a man, we all think the shoes are top-notch - . Durable, stable and good gripping in muddy and wet conditions. Rock plate is serviceable, as it is clearly a balance of trying to provide enough protection but also keeping the weight in check. I have worn my latest pair well past the time I should have retired them, and they have held up well. Finally starting to fray around the toe box, but I have jammed the shoes into enough roots and rocks to certainly warrant fraying at this point. For those new to Lone Peaks or any Altra shoes, be mindful of the low drop, as it will be a different feel. Consider a transition period into low drop to avoid injury.

I have a relatively narrow heel and broad forefoot, and am constantly looking for the best shoes/boots to fit my feet. These are the best I've found. They are my everyday shoes, and I'll wear them for on-trial day hikes (switch to boots for off-trail and longer treks). I like a flexible shoe with just a little padding so I can feel the contours of the ground under my feet. I started on the Lone Peak line back with the 1.0 version. The heel was more roomy than I would have liked, so I switched to Topo Athletic for my next couple pairs (each time I've bought shoes the past several years I've ordered a pair from both Altra and Topo Athletic, then only kept the better fitting). The Lone Peak 4.5 is the best shoe I've ever tried on. Compared to the early models in the line, this one has a slimmer heel and overall better fit. I'm considering buying a second pair just to have on hand, and another to use as softball cleats. A couple things that would improve the shoe for me: - extend the wide toe box a bit further back on the shoe to create a wider forefoot section - release an RSM version of the 4.5

I was having foot pain and was anticipating a backpacking trip in two months. A podiatrist recommended this brand to resolve my pain issue. I work 10 hrs a day on hard tile floors and the pain was getting worse. Three days wearing this shoe my foot pain is gone. When I ordered I had a delivery problem. I reached out and these guys quickly resolved the issue. I highly recommend them for quality products and great customer service. I will buy from these guys again.

I tried these on in a couple running shops and they felt different from the 4's so I didn't pull the trigger. I had a couple issues with the timp 2's and honestly I thought I was gonna have to find another brand (this was hugely disappointing due to the fact that 7 out of the 8 pairs of running shoes I own are altras). Since Altra let's you try them I went ahead and bought them. I'm in love you again Altra! Once they go on sale again I will be purchasing a couple more pairs! This is and has been my go to trail running shoe over the past few years! Love the lime color way too! So stoked! Keep crushing it Altra!

Most amazing feeling shoes. I don't mind the look of the square toe box given the space it provides for the toes to relax and spread out.

I am a hiker, not a runner. I wore out my 4.0s on a 60 mile packpack in the Elkhorn Range and picked up these 4.5s, despite reading some negative reviews. First wear about 12 miles of rugged coast trail with a lot of up an down. For my feet, they were wonderful. No break in needed, comfortable, good fit. They are my 4th or 5th pair of Lone Peaks and the best yet for me. The toe box also seems to be a bit more sturdily constructed. I had trouble with the toe rubber coming unglued on former models, but it looks like this may not be such a problem with the 4.5. Time will tell, but I am very pleased with the shoe for my feet and my purposes.

The wider toe box is great. I finally have a shoe that does not cause pain. Before I would have to get a shoe that was too large in length and width and that would lead to other issues.

Awesome shoe. Toe box is awesome especially after running 2-4 hours and your feet swell up. New sole is more grippy and durable than previous versions.

At 45, I have my share of knee problems, bad back, etc. I bought my first pair of Altras for a 4 day excursion into Hells Canyon Wilderness in Idaho. After years of wearing heavy (narrow) hiking boots, these have to be the most comfortable hiking shoe I have ever worn. I was worried about wearing such a low-cut shoe on a hike. Compared to the big and bulky Solomons I have, the Lone Peak made this difficult trek not only bearable, but kept my feet feeling the best I've been in a long time. The traction was really good, even on loose rocks. I have a considerably large big toe that never fits into a "normal" shoe. This is the first shoe that didn't shove my big toe in, or crush my pinky toe. I like the zero drop, though I admit that my calves cramped up the first few times I ran in them. Laces stayed put, plenty of space in the toes, no slipping in the heel. I was genuinely impressed.

I am 68 years old, and i have hiked in the National Forest almost everyday for the last 30 years. These days, I have arthritis in both knees and my feet get sore. I find that the Lone Peak is the best shoe to prevent arthritis pain during and after a hike. If i hike in another brand of hiking shoe with a more heal lift, and heal strike, even when i walk slow and careful, i will feel arthritis pain during the hike. If i wear the altra lone peaks shoes, i can walk fast, even downhill, and i will feel almost no knee arthritis pain even after the hike, and my feet don't get sore either.

I was a faithful wearer of the Lone Peak 3.5 then the 4.0 was born and I switched to the Timp. After growing weary of the ever collapsing sole of the Timp, I made a jump to Hoka's. I was never really happy with the Hokas but they held up. Then the new Timp came out and I went back to Altras. When I finally tried to new Lone Peaks I was thrilled. These are exactly what I want and need! Please don't change them.

I use these shoes to wear around casually so I can't comment on running. My toes need LOTS of space and these are the only shoes that do not make them feel cramped. I have other Altra shoes that do not feel this comfortable. My heel is a normal width and I don't have any problems with my heel sliding around. I injured my foot and ankle and I was not able to walk around without pain until I put these shoes on. The zero drop design and the arch support in these shoes support my foot by taking the downward pressure off my arch and foot bones, what a relief!

Size 10, Men's. These shoes are the REAL DEAL. I have ran roughly 900 miles in 2 pairs of these, switched to Timp 2.0 (see my other review, loved the Timp 2.0 as well but durability was lacking compared to LP's) and now have switched back to Lone Peak 4.5's. The Lone Peak's are all around great trail running shoes. I run everyday, average 65/70 miles per week, usually 5-6 days trail and the other days consist of road shakeouts.

Not to small, not to big, just right! Love love this shoe. Basically wear it for running with my girlfriends crazy dogs down a old country dirt road like a crazy person. Love the stone guard when it comes to jagged rocks. Gives me the confidence I need to run full speed with hyper dogs! It surprises me that no one mentions how great they are for doing lawn work also. The tread really digs deep when your push mowing a acre of lawn with no self propelled luxuries..keep up the great work and please don't drastically change them for the 5.0 version

I'm run on the road and trail, exclusively in Altras. Coming from the Lone Peak 4.0 and Timp 1.5, for my particular feet, the updates made to the Lone Peak 4.5 are exceptional. It doesn't feel like the platform of the shoe has changed, as others have complained, but the upper has definitely been streamlined. Relative to the 4.0, there is less material over the toe box and I'm able to achieve a much better fit around my mid-foot with much less hassle and variation than in the previous version. I already loved the Altra trail line, but for me, the Lone Peak 4.5s take things to a new level in terms of fit and long-run comfort. So far I've warn them for three runs, totaling 50 miles, and quite simply, I'm in love.

These continue to be amazing shoes through every iteration and fit my big wide feet well always! I run them on trails until they sorta self destruct or I buy a second pair to alternate and extend their life. Plus the current YELLOW color rocks!

I've recently begun to wear Altra roading running shoes. Beginning my adventure with the recently discounted Torin Plush I quickly realized how much I needed this exact shoe shape. My collection quickly expanded to include the Escalante 2.0 and classic Torin. This brings me to the Lone Peak. The shoe just fits my foot perfectly. I have a pretty low volume, flat foot that prefers a slightly larger toe box. My heels are pretty narrow and I tend to have a hard time getting a solid lock down without cutting circulation at the top of my foot. No such problems here. Toe box was accommodating without being sloppy. No sliding around in the midfoot and no slipping out at the heel. First run was 14 miles on a wet morning, shoe had great traction with only some slipping on rocks. The shoe was nimble and responsive but protective when needed. The cushioning was forgiving and my feet felt just as fresh afterwards as they did when I started. I don't believe I will be going back to other brands after the success I've had wearing Altra.

This is my 10th pair of Altras. I went through a couple iterations of Lone Peaks and then switched to Superiors, and have a few other shoes. I did not like the Superior 4.0s enough to buy them again prior to the new Superiors coming out so I tried these LP 4.5s and love them. The longest run on my Superiors was 35 and I felt it. These are light enough to move but still have more. For the next iteration, I would like a little bigger toe box while maintaining the snug middle (I have wide flat feet). Like the materials way better than Superior 4s. Well done.
