The hardcore grip on the bottom is perfect is the desert with all of our loose rock, and the shoes are overall very comfortable, lightweight, and stylish.

These felt great in the beginning, middle and end of a 50 miler. Comfortable, and just enough foot feel to get those quick cadence's

I love the lack of heel rise. Lots of room for my toes, and a very flexible sole. I wore them for 2 weeks and ordered a second pair in case they are discontinued before my first pair wears out

So far, so good. I purchased a pair locally, then bought another color during the online sale.
I like the fit, and the quality seems good. They are what I expected from Altra. Too early to tell if this is my "go to", but if it isn't it would be due to personal preference and not an issue with quality or performance.

This is my husband's fourth pair of this Lone Peak model. He wears them every day for all activities.
He loves the zero drop. His knees are in pretty bad shape, but he says wearing these shoes enables him to be on his feet for longer periods of time without pain versus wearing other shoes.

Put ~30 tough miles on these including snow, thaw/ ice and mud. They fit great and run even better. The trail claws dig right in and keep you stable. Bought a second pair just to have.

I've never had a customer service department personally follow up with me until Altra. That, bar none, branded me for life. Period.

I've only put about 50 hiking miles on these so far, but they are supper comfortable and show no signs of wear. If my size was in stock I would buy another pair today to have as a back up.

I've heard enough people rave about this shoe so I figured I'd order a pair, especially with the holiday sale. After 3 minutes of walking around the house with them, I immediately went to my computer and ordered another pair. I needed a good all around shoe for hiking, biking, and exercising. When I walk in these, I feel a huge positive difference in not only my feet, but my legs, hips and entire back. The zero drop and foot shaped toe box allows your feet to walk in their natural position. I don't know why every shoe isn't designed like this. Walking with a higher heel and narrow toe box is detrimental to your long term body alignment. Its not the way we're meant to walk. I've been wearing these for about a month now and I just walked for about an hour in 6 inches of snow and slush. Surprisingly, they held up well and are quick drying. They're very lightweight and super cushiony. As long as Altra keeps making these, I'll buy them.

I'm 72...Played sports at a high level; paying for it now. Needed shoe's that were comfortable to hike in and take long walks. I always had to buy a size or two up to accommodate my wide foot and achieve a level of comfort and performance. Then I discovered Altra's Escalante and Lone Peak; problem solved!

This is the best shoe I have ever purchased! I wear the shoes to train with weights, on the rower, walking and wear them to work with scrubs. I wear a size 14 and other shoes just don't seem to fit right, so I am grateful that Altra took the time to really design a great shoe. Dealing with poor fitting shoes and a multitude of issues, like plantar fasciatis or morton's neuroma, I can appreciate a shoe that has been engineered with good support and a wide toe box. I would strongly recommend this shoe! I would also add that I would recommend it to all athletic individuals looking for a supportive, durable and stylish shoe.

I'm a hiker and a novice trail runner. I'm working my way up to long-distance runs up and down the steep mountains here on the island of Taiwan. I've been running and hiking in these shoes, the Lone Peak 4.5. I've been using them for a few weeks, but they look and feel like they will be very durable. I tried a 10.5 and a 10. The 10.5 was obviously too big for me, while the 10 was perfect. They are comfortable, flexible, and light, yet also tough with good traction. The shoes don't slip or slide on my feet; my heels are locked in. Running or walking, uphill or downhill, I always feel good in these shoes. There's nothing about them that slows me down or makes me uncomfortable. I can't think of anything I would change about them. As far as I'm concerned, they're the perfect shoes for trail running or hiking. I've pretty much fallen in love with them. I'm sure Altra will make a Lone Peak 5.0 with some changes. I hope the changes are only minor. I already ordered a few new pairs of these, so I can have a supply that will last me for a long time. Thanks, Altra. I really appreciate these shoes.

I would love it if you would design a shoe that is very water resistant!

awesome shoes - the fit from the first step was perfect - love the wider toebox compared to salomon trail shoes - did around 200 miles in kings canyon and yosemite np's in October on these - lots of sharp rocky trails - amazing durability - for me (165 lbs) cushioning was perfect - feet felt fresh after 20+ mile days - love love love these shoes

I purchased these and hit the trail very quickly . The shoes were lighter than I thought , had extremely great traction , and very easy on my stride! Now I'm thinking of the gaiters which also works well keeping out trail debris !!! I would definitely recommend these for your trail experience ! Cheers !

I picked these up to replace a very well worn pair of Lone Peak 2.5s that I just couldn't part with because I felt that I would never find a shoe to adequately replace them. I'm happy to say that the 4.5 is the successor I looking for. I was surprised to see the relatively low reviews, because to me this is exactly what I expect in a zero-drop, mid cushion trail shoe from Altra. I get the wide toe box I want, with a good locked in feel in the mid foot, secure traction in the outsole and a midsole that gives a good compromise between protection and ground feel. This is not the perfect shoe for all occasions, but it does a lot of things very well.
To anyone having trouble with fit, I suggest playing with different lacing patterns, and possibly replacing the stock laces with elastic versions such as Lock Laces, etc. I think most people will be able to get the fit they're looking for with some small adjustments, if not right out of the box.

I've owned every iteration of Lone Peaks since the 2.5s. Some are better than others. Whether that's due to the whole edition being better/worse, or individual pairs being better/worse, I can't say for sure, though I suspect it's the latter. My Lone Peak 4s were the least comfortable and least durable of the bunch, but these 4.5s have been great.
I've had them for about 6 months and have put over 500 miles on them. Almost all of those miles have been on rocky, technical trails. Lots of toe stubbing. The shoes have held up really well. On past pairs, the toe protector has started to peel away after a hundred miles or two, but these are holding together perfectly despite the abuse. Some reviewers have had problems with the heels, and that's probably a real thing. I haven't had heel issues, though I needed about 15 or 20 miles to adjust to the way these shoes wear different hot spots on my feet. Same with any new pair I break in. So I had a minor blister area for the first two or three runs, but after that my feet got tough where they need to be, and I've been fine ever since.
The only thing I can't speak to is how well these handle water. All of the miles I've put on these shoes have been in dry climes. They haven't got wet once.
They're so nice I'm buying another pair to tide me over until the 5s come out.

I have lots of foot problems, and I might have prevented many of them if I had discovered these shoes earlier.
