My son has flat feet and it's been a struggle finding shoes that fit. These fit him very well, with no complaints of pain. Unfortunately, after literally just two days of moderate hiking the shoes have started to fall apart. Photo attached. What a disappointment!

I normally wear 12W or in New Balance 12 4E. I was extremely hesitant i ordering these shoes because they do not appear to come in wide widths. After reading a number of reviews, it seems that they may come wider than your average shoe and the discussions over the wider toe box seemed interesting. I got them and when I first tried them on, I noticed they were a little snug, but in a way that seemed supportive and not uncomfortable. I decided to wear them around the house for a while and see if I got used to them. Well after one day it was apparent that they were actually very comfortable. I have had them for a few days now and am really liking them. I am going for a long hike this afternoon and can't wait to see how they perform. The reason I wanted to write this review is to let people with wide feet like myself to know that these shoes are perfect even in the D width. This is my first pair of Altras and I look forward to many more pairs in the future.

It took a few tries to get the right size. For example a 9 for the Altra Superior translated to a 9.5 for the Lone Peak. Thanks Zappos for your easy return policy. Out of the box these are a very comfortable fit. I wear Injinji toe sox (wish they were available through Zappos)and now my toes have the room they need. I appreciate that Altra included information on how to transition to a zero drop shoe as I transition from my Merrell and Asics. Looking forward to hitting the trails!

Love these shoes, although they do run a half size small. So glad to have a pair of really comfortable, great-fitting Altras again. Note on sizing: I typically wear a 12.5 in Altras but the 13.0 in this Lone Peak 4.5 version matched the fit of all my other 12.5 Altras, so be sure to buy a half size up. That slight hiccup aside, this is the best pair of Altra's I've bought in a couple years. I'm really hoping they're restoring all of their shoe lines to their former glory just like they've done with these Lone Peak 4.5s - especially the Altra Superior line, which I'll also strongly recommend if they can get those back to the great comfort and fit of the version 3.5 and earlier models (the 4.0 really missed the mark with too narrow of a fit despite looking great). Still Highly Recommend Altra overall though.

Disappointed in the new LP. I wear Torins and LPs exclusively. For some reason the top of the heel rubs/cuts into my Achilles tendon. Not a keeper.

I have owned a lot of trail running shoes (NB, Hoka, Brooks, Altra LP 2) and tried even more. Every detail of the Lone Peak 4 is well thought out. Obviously the wide toe box, the traction, the durable materials, perfect amount of cushioning, rock plate, gaiter connections, quick draining and drying, out of the box comfortable. If there is a better designed shoe I have not seen it. Try it.

Fit was absolutely perfect right out of the box. Made the switch from my trusty Brookes Cascadia 13’s and am happy I did. Probably wouldn’t have made the change, but the new Cascadia iterations aren’t as good as previous models. Wore an 11 wide in the Cascadia’s, and went with an 11 in the Lone Peak’s. The wide toe box of the Lone Peak’s negates the need for a wider shoe as there is plenty of room for my feet even after they get swollen from serious mileage. Time will tell if they hold up as well as the Cascadia’s, but I’m confident they will! Also love that the Lone Peak’s accommodate my Dirty Girl gaiters!!!

The fit seems just a smidge long, but the width is perfect. The ball of my foot is wide and I have a narrow heal. This is BY FAR the most comfortable pair of trail runners I've tried yet. I'll be buying another pair soon.

I read many complimentary things about Altra Lone Peak shoes. Along with their good reputation the attributes that convinced me to try them are the wide toe box, zero drop sole, and their low weight. I have not used them on the long hikes I purchased them for, but on the many short and medium length ones I have used them on they have proven themselves to be every bit as good as their reputation.

I wore New Balance for the past 8 years. New Balance was a vegan shoe that was comfortable and able to handle my 4 mile a day walking. The Lone Peak 4.5 also is a vegan shoe but designed differently than New Balance. Lone Peak feels lower in the heel but is very comfortable. I was able to walk 4 miles the first day with total comfort. I use an orthotic and the Lone Peak 4.5 was able to accommodate. I will see how the shoe continues to perform but if it continues to perform I will buy others. I really like that it is 30% less expensive than the New Balance 998.

Much like my last pair these updated lone peaks fit great, a perfect 13, lightweight, super comfortable and the wide toe box is luxurious. Really like the color choices as well. If Altra keeps making these I will keeps making these I will keep buying.

My first pair of Altra’s and honestly this might be the only brand I buy in the future. Absolutely the most comfortable shoe I’ve ever had on my feet! I waited about three weeks after buying and wearing everyday before writing a review because I didn’t want to jump the gun but these just keep getting better the more I wear them. I’m mainly wearing them as everyday shoes and work shoes, I work at a golf course on the Maintainence crew so I’m doing a lot of walking over different types of terrain and in different weather conditions and these shoes have been amazing. Over the last 2-3 years I’ve been having a lot of knee, hip and lower back pain and since wearing these shoes almost all of my pain has disappeared. I’m definitely not a doctor but I can honestly feel the way my body just lines up or stacks up correctly when wearing these shoes, I’m assuming that’s from the zero drop causing my feet to work the way they’re intended to work and everything else just follows suit as you move up the body! Whatever it is, it has honestly been a godsend. I can actually do some activities after work now instead of just going home and trying to recover for the next day. Thank you Altra!! You have a customer for life.

Good fit at size 15. Big toebox and great for wide forefoot/bunnion and narrow heel. Zero drop took getting used to but a very comfortable shoe. Not as much rock protection as the RSM version, but fit much better. Love them.

Replacing my lone peak 2.5's that were a size 8 - the lone peak 4.5 size 8.5 matched my old ones. But I have started walking about 4.5 miles 4 times a week and my toes were hitting the front part of my old shoes I never noticed this walking just 30 mins or so. Distance makes a difference. So I ordered 3 different sizes of the new lone peak 4.5's. The size 9 in the lone peak 4.5's give enough extra length for my toes to be happy and I returned the other 2 sizes. The toe box felt nice and roomy just like my old 2.5's. Hoping that the cleats stay on this model longer. Time will tell. Thanks Zappos for making me happy customer! Love Altera's and will buy more from Zappos!!

I've been wearing Altra's for over 7 years, and this is my favorite version yet! I used to love the Superior before Altra decreased the cushion, and am so glad to have found this shoe! I tried it on and knew within 30 seconds that it was going to be a great shoe for me. In fact, I'm training for the Leadville Trail Marathon and after putting on a little over 100 miles on this shoe I bought another pair of the exact same shoe (different color) to make sure I could roll right into the 2nd pair when these wear out. One thing that I have come to find with Altra is they change their sizing from model to model, so you need to try them on before buying a new style or model (unfortunately).

Be careful when sizing these shoes to your feet. They're definitely different from the Lone Peak 4.0. I'm usually a 12 but was glad I sized up to a 12.5. The narrower mid-foot throws off the fit in the toe box. That half size difference made all the difference and perhaps size up a full size for thicker socks.

I have always used zero rise, minimalist trail running shoes and decided to give these a shot. Right out of the box you feel how comfortable they are compared to other zero rise shoes. Comfy footbed and tons of room in the toebox. I like to be able to spread my toes out when I run and that's definitely not an issue with these. I was actually worried they would be too loose based on the out of the box feel, but my ankle and heel are securely locked in place. Even though they feel more cushioned than my previous minimalist runners, I am able to run just as freely as before. The biggest thing to get used to is the larger footprint than my previous shoes, feel like I'm clipping the front on rocks and roots more than usual. But that's just the norm with an entirely new style of shoe and should resolve with a couple more runs, as I'm only three uses so far. The wide toe feels super stable on uneven terrain and the shoe is cushioned enough to absorb any impact. Will likely get a second pair when these start to wear down.

Fantastic shoe with a wide toe box. Worn in on trails near my home, but heading out for some long hikes in the coming weeks, these are going to be great. Zappos sent out a new pair immediately when the first were a little small.

These shoes are AWESOME! They're super comfy and are perfect for a thru-hiker. With a wide toe box, they allow your feet to swell a bit, as they normally do during a long-distance adventure, but they're snug in all spots you want them to be so they're not loose on your feet. My only critique is I wish they were a bit more durable because the rugged AZ Trail EATS THESE THINGS UP! You can see a full review of these shoes over on my YouTube Channel, Trail Time.

i recently purchased the Altra Lone Peak4.5, removed them from the box and begun to wear them immediately. My foot is narrow, however, the way the shoe is constructed , it allows me to easily tighten as needed. I really like the wide toe box because it allows my feet to spread and help grip surfaces I'm walking over. Those surfaces include, trails, hard surfaces, roofs, etc., as I use these shoes for everyday wear. The grips remind me to pick up my feet, so a very useful aspect of the shoe as well. Lastly, the low heel is well suited. It helps me walk more erect and even gives relief to sciatica.

I’m a big fan of Altra’s Torin and the Cayd fits my foot shape well too. I was disappointed that the Escalante was narrower and less roomy In the toe box than those. The Lone Peak feels similar to the Torin and fits my feet and toes comfortably. I live in the mountains and having trail grip on my kick around garden and yard stuff shoes is great.

My new favorite shoe! The other reviews were helpful - thank you! I found this shoe on one of many "best hiking shoes" lists. My favorite pair of Salomon's were long past wearable and I was having trouble finding a comparable pair that fit. These Altra's are a DREAM. I ordered a 1/2 size up to account for my custom orthotics and the fit was perfect. I love love love the wide toe box. I took them out for a 5 mile hike and they were very comfortable and stable, no blisters, no breaking in drama. I usually come home a bit achey and sore, but felt great after this first outing. They were great uphill and downhill, on rocky terrain and dirt trails, as well as the mile or two of neighborhood/sidewalks I use to get to the park. I'm really really pleased.
