Comfort, fit and grip are the strong points for the Speedgoat. The upper materials are another story. A shoe with this price tag should not be coming apart like this. I have other Hoka's that have way more mileage and are still holding up well. Hoka needs to look into better martials if they plan on using this type of upper shoe layout in the future.

Unfortunately this was not my shoe. I found it to be extremely hard with little to no cushion. I also had horrible pronation and couldn't run more than 5 miles in them.

Other reviews of this shoe mentioned that it is too tight in the midfoot near the upper shoelaces. It was so tight that I could not put on this shoe. I love Hoka shoes and hope that they will redesign this shoe with proper room in the midfoot.

I wear a 14 4E and was told these would give as much room as an extra wide. Not the case.

have only run in hokas last 6 years...bought a wide but honestly its really not that wide (though it feels big) as stills ended up with sore sides. also uppers too plasticy . the thin tounge digs into the foot on the run down. outsole very good and grips well on inclines. havnt enjoyed my runs in these shoes

I really like almost everything about these shoes: great fitting upper, good cushioning, fantastic grip, relatively lightweight. The one issue with these are the thin tongue. It is long enough and sharp enough that it rubs against the ski at the top of my ankle to the point of breaking skin. I've tried short socks and antichafe cream, long socks, tying the shoes in various ways and nothing seems to take away from the intense running and cutting that ultimately occurs. This didn't seem to be an issue when I tried them on in the store, but it has been a consistent issue for runs from 3-13.1 miles. I hope Hoka goes back to a traditional tongue, regardless of how much weight it may add.

The new tongue design gave me blisters/cuts on my first trail run. I would need to invest in higher socks to accommodate the new tongue design. I returned the shoes and found a pair of new Speedgoat 3 online.

First time out, blister on my right inside heel. This did not happen with the Speedgoat 3s that I have loved. Also, the 4s have no padding at all on the tongue which made it less comfortable. I will give this shoe some time, but so far, it's not the shoe the 3 is.

Dear Hoka - have you EVER heard someone say "there's too much room in the toe box"??? You haven't because your shoes are WAY TOO TIGHT in the toe box. Everyone knows it. Your "wide" versions are basically D width. Just make an XW like the new Bondi 7 in a hiking shoe. Hikers have BIG, SWOLLEN FEET - help us!

Bought these after years of my Speed Goat 2. The Speed Goat 4s just dont have the same longevity. I hiked 47 miles of the AT and they have started to split apart at the toes.

I had high expectations for this shoes, despite the good cushioning and comfortable fit, they are quite unstable in rocky terrain with a poor grip (lucky I have flexible ankles), furthermore breath-ability is quite bad and the shoes get very wet through the run since all the sweat just keep accumulating which doesn't help to the already heavy shoes. Furthermore, they are not cheap... I was expecting much more, now I will have to use them for easy recovery runs only.

I love Hoka shoes, but this did not meet my expectations. I am giving it 2-stars because it protected my feet from every bit of the gravel and rocks on the technical trail, on which I ran. The day I took these out, it was completely dry, and the shoes STILL slipped on rocks, which obviously should not happen. Not only that, but they felt clunky and sloppy. I normally run 8-10 miles on this trail, and my break-in run for these shoes was only a little over 3, yet I was exhausted from having to concentrate so much on where I was placing my feet. There is absolutely zero ground feel, which a trail shoe should probably have at least a little bit. On top of that, due to the reduced proprioception these shoes provide, I actually clipped my toe when going over a rock and FELL! I have NEVER fallen when running this trail, and I have hundreds of miles in various shoes. It only took these shoes 3 miles to cause this to happen. Maybe it was because they made me a little more tired? I don't know, but I am certain they caused the fall, haha. On a very flat dirt path, I think they would be fine, because they certainly provide protection, they are just trash when it comes to any other part of trail runs. I wanted to like them, but I cannot.

I've had nothing but Hoka shoes for the last 4 years or so. 1-Speedgoat, 2-Speedgoat 2, 1-Speedgoat 3 and now the Speedgoat 4. Then both Mafate 1 & 2, Carbon X and even Toa Hiking boots. Been fairly reliable...
But now on these Speedgoat 4's, think I have about 5 runs on these. Likely 100km or so and the lil flap over the toe box on the right shoe is already peeing off very quickly. Not looking like they will be too durable. Wish I could attach a picture to show you all. Will he contacting Hoka to see if thy is can be resolved.

After purchasing the EE and having concerns about their true size and dimension, I purchased the regular width just to see if the EE was wider. IT WAS NOT.
THE D WIDTH AND THE EE WIDTH ARE THE SAME SHOE.

The cushion wears out at 4 months.
I just learned that Hoka has a 1 year warranty... a week too late!!! Because Zappos didn't bother to mention it when I called to request a refund.

I'm not sure whose feet they are made for, but certainly not mine. Feels a full size too small and way narrower than normal (and is supposed to be wide). I went back to the label and the box to make sure they were the right size. Also these are defined for people with completely flat feet - there is no arch support nd no room for arches in the structure of the shoe - very very very uncomfortable. Also why does a running shoe have zero padding in the tongue - all Hokas are made this way and I have no idea why.
I'd also recommend:
Anything else including bare feet

Hard to get on. Have to use a shoe horn and unlace the shoe half wAy to get it on. Very tight on my arch that it almost cuts the circulation off on my foot.
Brought a pair of Rincon 3 and absolutely love them. Most comfortable shoe I have. So I brought a 2nd pair to replace Speedgoat4

Uncomfortable fit and small toe was rubbing against the shoe and subsequently it ripped. Haven't worn it much either because of this

I've been a runner for 40 years and these are not what I consider the most comfortable shoe. I work on my feet all night long..Graveyard shift at a Hospital. I first put these on and had to take them off 30 minutes into my shift and that was 15 minutes too long. The shoe hurt the top of my foot around the big toe area where I have arthritis. Get a good pair of running shoe...Brooks ...New Balance and see your dollar. Not worth the Hype!

I had a pair of 9EE Speedgoats of the previous version and they fit great. The Speedgoat 4 9EE is too narrow in the toe box and crushes my toes together. Starts to really hurt after about 30 minutes on the treadmill.
