Love the Speedgoat 4. My favorite trail shoe! Comfortable, balanced, & responsive. Just the right amount of cushion without losing the feel of the trail underfoot. I go 1 size up from my regular shoe size to accommodate my orthotics.

Every shoe has slight variations and I've always had trouble finding the right size. This is my 3rd pair of speedgoats and what I can say for fact is if you are a trail runner, these shoes are the best. As for size, these trail shoes will feel tighter than the road shoes, but after they break in over a week, they will feel just right and offer plenty of support. Just for kicks, I tried the one size up which was a 14 and they felt great and I even went with a wider shoe. I thought "wow" this is a going to be the best run ever. Well, once they broke in my feet were slipping around and I turned my ankles a couple of times. If you are curious about my socks, I wear drymax trail socks. Zappos and Hoka were kind enough to accept the shoes back within their 30 day window and I returned to size 13 and they are just starting to feel great again, my foot is held snuggly into the shoe ( we have rough Rooty and stoney terrain) and I'm now ready to take on the miles.
I wouldn't recommend these shoes as walkers, these are for a specific purpose (rough trails) and they will wear out quickly on pavement. The rubber is soft for gripping.

I have seen Hoka and even demoed them at events and it seemed to be too much cushioning - but as my needs changed I was getting back pain after running. The Hoka has resolved the issue and I am racking up the miles again. The cushioning helps and I feel stable on the trails.

Replaced my other, heavier hiking shoes. I know they're probably more for trail running, but the tread is great for hiking of course.

I am blown away by how comfortable these feel on my feet. I'm not an athlete or a runner, and I bought these for daily wear. My feet are on the wide side of average and fairly flat. I'm 35 years old, and these are the first pair of shoes I've owned that are truly comfortable on my feet. They feel supportive in the heel, roomy in the front, and the soles are very, very soft and supportive in precisely the way I need them to be. I did re-lace the shoes in a manner more appropriate for wide feet (easy to Google), and for me, they're perfect. I'm considering buying a second pair now to have on-hand in the future as a replacement when these wear out. I like them that much.

I run on trails through the woods that is composed of sand, pine straw, tree roots, and gradual elevations. The shoes are stylish, very comfortable, and they provide great stability and traction. I highly recommend them. This is my first trail shoe. My other pair of Hoka shoes are for -street running- and are also excellent!

Context: I'm a male shoe horse (so to speak). That is, I love and wear many different types, styles, and brands of shoes. I'm also very active: mostly cycling, alpine skiing, hiking, and walking.
So, when I write that these are the most comfortable shoes I own or have worn in the past 20 years, that is, for me, not a trivial assessment.
I use them for walking, hiking, and kicking around. They are my go-to shoes.
I will buy Hoka again.
