Nice shoe and works well on trails. It does not have as much cushion as the Boni 7, which I use for manicured trails, but the profile works better on non-manicured tails. I have a wide forfot and the D is not as wide as the regular of hte Boni 7, which surprised me. So if you love the Boni 7, be sure to procure the wide "D" version

I hiked in my trail Hoka's right out of the box. Risky. Shoes felt amazing. Only comments: * tongue uncomfortable, I rolled my sock over the tongue. * harder fabric on pinky toe area did start to rub. Hike was 8 miles and 2500 feet of climbing. Shoes did well.

I wasn't real impressed with these shoes. They take a long time to break in and still leave blisters

I love my shoes. They are comfortable for 12 hour shifts. They just make noise sometimes when I'm walking down a hallway.

The show is great quality but way too big in width. When I tie up the laces, the material warps as there's that much of it. I ordered other model and it still feels big but better than this one. Likely a perfect show if your fit are on a wider side

I purchased these in order to start training with them for a 400 mile backpacking trip in Europe. I like the cushion and stability. Love the toe space. As I train, I am paying attention for hot spots, sock configurations, how the shoes handle going downhill, and where they are creasing. I don't feel that my toes are sliding forward and jamming into the tip of the shoe. There are some things concerning me and I hope that I will see the outcome early enough that if I need to try another option, I will have time to buy something else. I am seeing some creasing that already looks like the material (vinyl) is showing some cracking on the pinky toe side of the shoe. I also have noticed the back of the shoe collapses very easily when I am putting the shoes on and it's difficult to get the back to straighten back out flat on my achilleas/heel area. So far it has not caused rubbing in the area. As with other Hoka's that I have purchased, these too prevent toe joint pain that I sometime experience with other shoes.

This is my second pair. I like to have a cushion for my knees even for trail running, and Speedgoat 4 was my favorite after wearing Brooks and Altra. I can trust these shoes to run trails with any conditions, dry, wet, muddy, rooty,,, but not best for sands as they are a bit heavy.

Love the Hoka shoe for my long shifts in the emergency room. The 6.5 felt snug across the top of my foot. But the 7 was too large in length. Still keeping them though
I'd also recommend:

I returned these shoes for my usual ATRs- Stinson. I bought these to see how I would like them because the sole lugs are 5 mm where the Stinsons are only 4mm. A lot of steep terrain where I live and I thought that would help. Unfortunately the shoes were not wide enough even though I bought the wide. The Stinson ATRS are perfect even though they don't have a wide choice. I love the Stinsons and have bought several pairs over the last few years. My favorites for dirl trails

These are the best running sneakers for trails. Lots of cushion and arch support. The reason why I’m giving these sneakers a 4 and not a 5 is because the tread does not last. I supernate and therefore the heal wears off on the outer part of the sole. With these sneakers I need to replace them every 2-3 months as opposed to about 4-6 months (I run about 15-20 miles/week). As you can imagine this becomes very costly but it’s better than having knee pain. Overall, I love the functionality of these sneakers.

My tight shoe feels a little narrow. I have adjusted the laces several times, still struggling a little. The left shoe I had to adjust the laces several times as well after getting a blister from the top of the shoe hitting my second toe. I love the cushion in the shoe and the support for my heels and arches.

I am so grateful for the Speedgoat, AND for HOKA's awesome return policy. I was needing to upgrade trail shoes to something that could get me through a 50 mile ultra over LOTS of ROCK. After reading many reviews, I narrowed my search to THIS shoe, and another brand that I use a LOT which features a foot shaped toe box. Both shoes were advertised to have lots of cushioning, which is what I needed to move swiftly over the terrain I was going up against. The other shoe was more familiar/comfortable to me out of the box. This one, however, won out on the up-and-down-hill-aggressively-rocky-terrain-test. The footshape felt awkward to me, but the "bounce" and comfort the Speedgoat provided on the bottoms of my feet was unparalleled....! The other company also offered a 30 day trial period, so back that shoe went. Fast forward to my 50 miler. I am sure that the Speedgoats saved me foot fatigue from the terrain. I am sure that I felt more confident charging down rocky downhills w/o worrying about exact foot placement with every step. BUT I MISSED MY BELOVED FOOTSHAPED TOE BOX SO MUCH! Mid-ultra I noticed a lot of tenderness in the toes, and it affected my ability to charge downhill in the last 20ish miles. Post-ultra, after my recovery week, I noticed that when I wore my Speedgoats for gentle trail runs, my feet "relived" their toebox trauma, but when I wore out my less cushioned, but roomy footshaped trail shoes, my toes felt awesome post run. The Speedgoat is an awesome shoe. HOKA is an awesome company. But my other trusted brand is also really awesome, and I am just wishing for a merger! For my chill training runs, I'm grabbing my footshaped trail shoes every time. I only feel the "tradeoff" of bounce and cushioning are worth it for racing, or very aggressive trail workouts on rocky terrain. BUT I WOULD BE A CONVERT IF A SHOE LIKE THE SPEEDGOAT CAME IN A MORE NATURAL FOOTSHAPE. :) :) :) Lmk, HOKA if you ever lean this way in shoe development. ;)

Not enough arch support for me, but most shoes don't have enough, I just added a little arch insert and they are fine.

I loved my first pair of Speedgoats, so when it was time to buy another pair, I bought the latest version. The tongue design has been changed and it cuts into my ankle--I have scabs, and I only jogged about 4 miles in 2 separate jogs. Other wise, they are the same shoe I loved the first time around.

I like the style and generally like the feel of these. I've got arthritis in my toes and other foot issues which require custom insoles. So, I'm kinda picky about feel because my feet are very sensitive. These aren't as comfortable as my Stinsons, but they're pretty good. I can wear them all day at work (I'm on my feet most of the day) and my feet are okay by the end of the day. I definitely like them, but not sure they're comfortable enough for my feet to be happy in them daily.

The shoe itself is very cushiony and everything fits great except for that rubber tongue! I had to cut it back to where the seam is and it still rubs my skin. If it had a cushioned tongue I would have given it 5 stars.

The tongue on the speedgoat 4 is not as sturdy as speedgoat 3 and actually is already splitting apart and hurts my foot

I like everything about this shoe except that the tongue is rather stiff and has no padding. It pushes into my skin and I have to make sure the sock covers my skin. Never had this problem with a shoe before this. That said, shoe is roomy enough for my short wide feet including orthotics...hard to find a shoe like this.

I LOVE the grip this shoe has on the trails. However, the front shoe box is too narrow in the regular and too wide in the wide width for my foot. I should have tried going up a size but ended up ordering another pair of Bondi sneakers which I knew would fit my foot. Not as gripping on the trails but a also a great shoe.

Felt comfortable but unfortunately at my regular size it felt at least a full size too large. On step, the shoe bends onto the toes painfully.

i work out in 5.5s which i did get bc the 5 was too small. my foot is wide and it really felt snug even without laces. i was worried but learned lacing technique pretty quick bc i never broke these in before a 5-day hiking trip. my feet were never sore, thankfully. they felt clunky but that’s probably just bc i am a sandals girl.

I have been wanting a pair of Hokas for a long time because leg pain, mainly shin splints, prevents me from running as I used to. I splurged and am very glad I did. These are very comfortable. I purchased these in size 7.5 and the length was perfect, but the top of the shoe (vertical space) was quite tight when I first put them on. I am typically around 37.5-38 Euro sizes and 7-7.5 in US shoe sizes, with wider feet and some permanent swelling inside one foot due to past plantar fasciitis. I am glad I stuck with them because they seemed to stretch and become more comfortable. Giving 4/5 stars because that initial break-in period was difficult and my foot was so tight it was tingling and falling asleep. I also wish the lip around your lower ankle was slightly higher. These may not be the best for folks with ankle issues due to how low the sides are which leads to less side to side stabilization.
