My normal athletic shoes are Brooks, love them but decided to try Hoka speedboat, most uncomfortable and disappointing shoe. They hurt my feet just having them on, walking is worse. I will try a different Hoka variety tho, just because I hear people like them.
I'd also recommend:

Such a disappointment! I have run in the previous models and loved them so was excited to try the 4...they have completely changed the shoe and not in a good way. Narrowed the toe box, widened the heel and made the outer stiff and rigid. Felt like there was hardly any cushioning. Even the sizing is different. I really wanted to love the new model...bummed that I hate them!

Although the toe box is advertised as wider, it was not wide enough for me, and I had to return

I was so excited to try out my new Hoka Speedgoats recommended by my foot doctor. I have worn my Speedgoats a total or approximately 20 times, outdoors on a
2 mile walk on even concrete/asphalt. I only wear my Speedgoats during these walks. I then change into other shoes for my daily activities.
The tread pattern on the soles is showing severe wear. I did not expect this until further down the road, with many miles on them.
Considering the price on this model, I cannot in good conscience recommend this model to anyone. In addition, since I need to be on the hunt for new shoes, Hoka brand is not even in contention.
So very disappointed.
Feel free to contact me for any additional info or if you have a suggestion on a different model that holds up.
Thank you,
D. Duncan

I was really excited to try this shoe. I have had three seasons of challengers and thought I would try a more aggressive tread which is nice but that tongue. It rubbed the front of my ankles raw in 5 miles. Not really sure what to do with these now...one run in

Haven't used the shoes more than 10 times and the hardware is coming undone.
Not happy about the price vs quality. Will not repurchase.

Hoka Speedgoats are amazing, love the fit and support. The Speedgoat 4 was a disappointment with the rigid tongue. I hope future versions have the soft tongue, or unfortunately, I will have to change shoes.

I've used Speedgoats for a handful of years now and love them but the new tongue design is terrible. Digs into my skin. No way around it. Unfortunately, had to switch shoes. Hope you guys either redesign or bring back the old version.

I wrote a review. Inseam are very thick and bother the top of my feet when wearing them. And when attempting to walk on them it is very painful.

And return was an absolute nightmare. They were nice enough to take my money, but when it came to helping me with a return, it was awful.
Beware.

I have used this on 4 different trail runs and my feet ache horribly after 6 or 7 miles.

I have a naturally wide foot, and years in ski boots has not helped. My son and daughter in law both have Hokas and love them. I tried hers on and other than wanting more width and needing trail running shoes I figured I would take a chance. Extremely disappointed with the fit and quality of this shoe. I have worn Brooks, La Sportiva, Nike and the problem with this show is multi fold. The tongue is not padded as noted in other reviews and this was a minor annoyance for me. What didn't work is that the eye that the laces run through were placed directly over the widest part of my foot and created a lot of Pain for me. I did not feel the cushioning or support in the shoe that I expected nor the benefit of purchasing a specifically "wide" running shoe. My feet are naturally on the wide side and many years as a professional skier, ski boots have not been kind to them either. I am specifically looking for a trail running shoe here in Sun Valley in the mountains and your wide offering is very limited to style and color. If there is another model you feel would be a better fit for me, then I am open to suggestions. The size 8 was a good size for me but the tongue and placement of the shoe lace eyes across the top of my foot was a "no go"!

After less than one month; less than 20 miles... the flap at the base of the laces popped off (glue defective). When running in the rain it makes an obnoxious noise. Attempting return process, but poor customer service and frustrated. Would not purchase again.

the company is great. I received the shoes a few days after I ordered them. I found i had a hard time running in these shoes. My legs were exhausted after 1.5 miles. I previously was running 6 miles without issues. I returned the shoes and was refunded quickly.

wanted to replace my speedgoat 3 with these...same fit except for tongue that digs right into your ankle above socks! I guess I will have to wait for the Speedgoat 5 to come out!!!

Junk Junk Junk
I asked for a replacement they wouldn't send me one unless i returned the shoes. I am a runner so basically i had to buy another pair of shoes so that I could run and return the broken one. Awful customer service and I would not buy them again.

They did not come in W width, but something labeled D, wide. When I got the shoes, I could barely get my foot inside the shoe. This show sold in D wide width was not wide.
I returned the shoes.
Maybe it was my misunderstanding, but there was no W wide.

Felt more narrow in the front of the foot than past models. Really uncomfortable on bunions. Also, the tongue wasn't comfortable either. I switched from the speedgoat because of these issues.

Wish I'd read other reviews. After just my first run, the plastic tongue of these shoes thrashed my ankles. I've worn speedgoats for years and assumed maybe this was a fluke so I kept at it, trying to wear taller socks. But still, now 3-4 days in my feet are covered in gooey gashes. There's no way these were wear tested, awful awful design flaw.
