This shoe felt great on my foot at the running store. I was excited to try it out on the trails. The lugs were great, the landing was soft but responsive, and it was overall a great shoe. However, the thinner tongue cut into the top of my foot and left an awful abrasion. I'm sad to say I'm going to return this shoe and purchase another pair of the EVO Speedgoat, which (I hope) has not switched to the new tongue design. If the tongue had some padding, it would be the perfect trail shoe.

I loved the colors of this show but was disappointed in how they felt on. It felt like there was a seam across the top of my foot/toes with each step.

Speedgoat 3 had a padded tongue which was very comfortable. Speedgoat 4 has a thin tongue which is very uncomfortable.

This is my third pair of Hokas and my second pair of speedgoats. I liked the previous pairs, but these are going back because the plastic shell over the top of the foot is stiff and hot. Previous Hokas were more cloth-like. Maybe these would be good for rain, but I walked around my living room 3 different times to give them a chance and they're just uncomfortable. I'd rather my feet be wet! Love the brand, generally!

The Speedgoat 3s were the best shoes I've ever worn, but the 4s are just mediocre in comparison. The upper is now rigid and digs across the top of the toes if you bend your foot. The new flat rubber like tongue is long and sharp. Though these feel somewhat similarly cushioned in the heel to previous versions, they feel less cushioned in the front. As far as sizing goes, they run longer and slightly wider than previous versions, so ordering the same size causes some heel slip issues. I do however, really like the new colors! I think if I'd never worn previous versions, then I might like the 4 more. But overall, I would not recommend.

I just ordered both the EVO Speedgoat and the Speedgoat 4 and although both were extremely comfortable and hugged my heel while giving my toes plenty of wiggle room, I had to go with the EVO speedgoat because it has a much better tongue design. The EVO has a tongue with soft material that is wrapped along the edge with a nylon type fabric. The Speedgoat 4 has a sharp rubber-coated material that is so long, it cut into the top of my ankle. I preferred the colors of the Speedgoat 4, but I had to go with the EVO Speedgoat because of the terrible tongue.

I loved running in these shoes until they became so painful. The tongue of the shoe repeatedly poking the front of my ankle caused so much pain I could barely make it down the mountain. I had to tie the laces under the tongue and wear the shoe super loose just to make the 5 miles back to the car. My ankle is still healing a week later. It’s sore to the touch right wear the tongue hits. The tongue is super long and made from a stiff material. It did not bother me on my first few runs, but over time really caused pain.

I bought a half size larger to wear with thicker socks and were still slightly roomy . Sadly, the tongue was as described by other reviewers. It was extremely hard and thin and stuck right into the leg so had to return. It is a very strange design for an upscale shoe. Other than that it was extremely cushy and supportive.

I have been wearing Hoka speed goats for years and have always sworn by them. I went for my first hike in my speed goat 4's and my feet hurt and tongue left a red marks on both feet. There is no padding on the tongue making them extremely uncomfortable. I am so disappointed with this product. I honestly thought I would never wear another brand. These speed goat 4's have changed my mind.

This shoe is not as comfortable as the previous Hokas I have ordered. It does not move well, and it is too narrow on my toes. I don't have a wide food or have ever had problems with this before.

The pair I bought was beautiful looking however, the size was long and too stiff. I hope wearing it would soften the fit but unfortunately did not.

I've been wearing the Arahi and Gaviota (wide). They are both comfy and provide great support for my flat arches. (I do also wear corrective OTC insoles.) Unfortunately neither have good tread for trail walking. I'm always feeling like I'm going to slip. So I tried the Speedgoat 4. The tread is fabulous and I felt confident walking the trails. But there is this diamond-shaped extension of the tongue that is stitched up towards the toe of the shoe that really digs into the lower part of my toes. I don't know why that tongue material extends so far up. If it's for cosmetic reasons, it's totally unnecessary. Walking in the shoes was managable. But when I got back to the car to drive home after a very slow and short walk, my right foot started to get numb. The pressure was so bad I actually had to remove that shoe as I was driving because I couldn't take the pain. I ordered a wide and it wasn't nearly as roomy in the toe box as the Gaviota wide. It actually felt like a regular. I wish Hoka would make a version of the Gaviota with better tread.

For the most part, the shoe is very comfortable and supportive. The cushion is great! However, like many women, I have a bunion that requires a wider toe box. Running shoes still be supportive even with a wider toe box. Please HOKA, create a truly wider toe box shoe, without widening the heel.

I absolutely used to love this shoe! Wore the Speedgoat 3's for about 2 years and they were perfect! Wore the Speedgoat 3 running in Colorado for the Leadville Heavy Half and Pikes Peak Ascent. It's was a great shoe with lots of grip and plenty of cushion for the hard rocky trails in Colorado. Then I bought the new 4's. The new 4 model has just a cheap piece of rubber for the tongue that digs into the top of your foot and into your ankle. It cut into my ankle on my first trail run and created scars. I thought I could deal with it by getting no tie shoe laces and taller socks. It's still just completely unconformable to walk or run in. Please put cushion back into the tongue and I'll look at buying the next model. Otherwise, I am now shopping for another trail shoe.

I bought these in the middle of backpacking the CT this summer. I use trail runners and heard good things about Hoka. I've probably hiked in these for a total of 3 days on the trail before I had to quit and then another maybe 8 hikes. Yes, they are very comfortable. But the hard plastic piece above the shoelaces is peeling off. Also, the hard plastic tongue digs into my ankles. It doesn't matter thickness of socks. My CT hike was cut short because both my ankles were blistered and bone was bruised. It happens on all hikes with these shoes but I'm usually done before it gets bad. They're seriously comfortable but if you have bony ankles, I'd go for something different.

The heel of both feet hurts by 3 to 4 hours. I have not had this issue with Alegria clogs at all . I believe I need a thicker sole .

I bought these because I wore out my Speedgoat 3s (which I loved). Fit of SG4 was fine and the cushioning is really exceptional. What I was REALLY unhappy with was the material that the upper is made of. SG4 is made from a very stiff material that, when your foot flexes, makes a fold so sharp that it digs into the top of your foot. This can be dealt with by thicker socks, but was uncomfortable. The worse problem is the tongue. It is SHARP and after the first 4 miles the front of my ankle was all cut up! What happened to the nice material and padded tongue of SG3? Bring it back!

I am on my fourth pair of Speedgoats and have had more success trail running in this shoe than any other but the Speedgoat 4 has a longer stiffer tongue than previous versions and it digs into my foot. I actually had to take a pair of scissors to them and trim the tongue in order to keep wearing them. I will not buy another pair if this isn't changed. I cannot imagine why the shoe was made with the tongue like that other than to make the logo display more prominently.

I wanted to love this shoe so much, but the toe box wasn't wide or high enough for my wider feet. After just an hour of wear, it left the outer big toe bone in pain. My toes just couldn't spread naturally. I ended up returning and ordering the Challenger instead. Hoping it works so I can get out trail running soon.

I used the speed goat 4 for hiking various terrain over flat and steep rocks. The grip is amazing. One of the very few trail shoes that come in a wide width with cushioning, but the design of the tongue is intolerable. No matter how thick a sock I put on, it dug into my foot. With a lower sock I actually got red marks on my skin. I don't know why Hoka decided to design a tongue without padding. Please redesign to make a perfect shoe!!! I donated mine. A lot of money to waste.

Too narrow. I've tried different versions in past. Every version is too narrow. Wish the Stinsons had the same kind of good trail sole on them.

I am returning these shoes because the tongue on the shoe was very odd and rubbed on the front of my ankle. Also, I wore these for a short amount of time inside, and felt blisters on my pinky toes forming. This was odd to me because the toe area almost seemed too big for me. These shoes were very cushiony and I really wanted to love them. The color was fun and cuter than most Hokas - the shoe overall is not super stylish, but that is not why I purchased this brand.

The tread and traction are great, but the tongue is very sharp (without padding), and is tearing up my ankles when I run.

I'm an ultra distance runner, and the tongue on these shoes cuts into the front of my ankle, it's getting so bad I might have to return. Love the shoe otherwise!

After two months of wearing the Speedgoats, little holes where my big toes are located started appearing. I have had this problem with other shoes after months of wear, but not with just 2 months of occasional use. I primarily wear Cliftons and I have never had this problem. Outside of this, I love the shoes.
