Purchased just before our first snow in California; kept my running schedule on track and on the trail even through wet snow, puddles and some black ice on street without swamping my feet in the wet ! Super happy with these! Would love to see a wide toe box in GTX.

The grip these have on trails is unmatched. It's my 5th pair over the years going back to the speedcross 3 versions.

Hace un mes recibi esta zapatilla y antes usaba la speedcross 4. Lejos la mejor zapatilla para bajar pendientes complicadas, he probado casi todas las marcas y esta tiene la mejor suela de agarre. Para nieve y lluvia nunca se me han mojado los pies.

Lightweight yet robust; excellent inner sole (one reason why I have 3 pairs of Salomon footwear at the moment!); excellent lacing system; very grippy tread pattern giving lots of confidence when on hill terrain. I like the colours of the upper - but the orange tread would not be my first choice. a personal thing! Again, a personal thing, I find the sizing to be 'spot on'; I tried the size down and it was too tight around the toe. The size I now have is a wee bit roomy and slightly long but can adjust this with sock choice.

This is my second pair of Speedcross 5 GTX. I put 500mikes in the first pair and could probably have done much more. They are still in perfect condition and the grip still pretty good. I run 2000 miles per year and do ultramarathons. I use these on my shorter runs in winter (conditions get very muddy or snowy here in th Pacific North West) up to 15-20 miles (I would not go much longer because they are a little heavy). They are perfectly waterproof and keep my feet warm and dry even in extremely wet conditions. The grip is exceptional in mud or on snow as well as rock, even wet. They are extremely protective around the toes which is useful when you hit a stone hidden under leaves. A great shoe for badass winter runners.

Nice looking shoes, Solid grip on snow. Left arch a bit tight and there is a seem that detracts from comfort, but right shoe fine. Could be more my different foot shapes than the shoes.

Generally these are great, a real bug bear of mine though is how quickly the heel wears out on the inside of the shoe. It has happened on the last two pair of shoes, and it is the only real negative. The Gore Tex version I have in terms of keeping water out on wet grass has been excellent, the only other slight negative is how much they seem to stink having got wet, even with multiple washes.

I ran a Spartan OCR and when wet, running downhill , the removable ortholite cushion did not stay in place, it bunched up

I bought the Speedcross 5 GTX back in August and have put on around 250 miles on them. I live in Denver and go hiking/trail running about twice a week. These shoes absolutely dominate the terrain that I've put them through. 14ers, no problem. Trail runs in the front range, not even phased. I've even taken them on snowy runs and hikes in the winter to only experience minor slippage on ice. So far have only slipped a handful of times which is a testament to the traction that these shoes have. The only reason this shoe does not receive 5 stars is the weight and heel drop. The shoe is not the lightest and is not the most agile on bending downhills. I run on the forefront of my foot and find it difficult to keep that form when on the flats and trying to maintain a rhythm. For more difficult mountain excursions this shoe is great but for a normal trail the shoe can be a bit of an overkill. To the potential buyer I would say get this shoe if you intend on doing more rugged terrain but opt for the wild cross or the ultra if you're sticking to the groomed trails.
