Use the shoe mostly for walking, It is very stable. Many of the shoes I buy have difficulty holding the tongue centered. This shoe has no problem. One drawback with this pair, the strings are too short. I'm not able to use all of the eyelets.

I have worn 990 series for more than 25 years. The V5 is the first to disappoint . The heel is not properly cushioned and the toe is WRONG. I got blisters. This is a real letdown from NB

I love new balance running and casual shoes. They fit well and are well made. These shoes are well made, don't get me wrong, these are good quality shoes. I like the reflectivity and the simplicity. But, they aren't that comfortable. Any fresh foam athletic shoe is gonna be more comfortable, and cheaper. Any casual new balance shoe like the made in usa 998 or even the regular 997H is gonna be more comfortable than this shoe. For some reason, after the all the new balance shoes that I love, from high tech trail running shoes to made in usa casual shoes, this 990v5 is just not one that I like. It causes me heel pain when I walk for long periods or run in them. Running in these shoes is not advised, causes too much lower body pain. I'll stick to my fresh foams or regular new balance casual shoes. I love the idea, but this shoe just isn't comfortable for walking or running.

I've been wearing variants of NB's 990 shoes for years and years. They are simply the best overall running and walking shoes I've ever owned. Fit is certainly subjective, but the fit, and therefore comfort, of these shoes is terrific. Wear is not as subjective and these shoes last for a zillion miles (or so it seems). Seriously, they do eventually wear out and I've just thrown out a pair with numerous holes, but they do last a long time and they've provided great value.

I take walks around 2-3 miles and the shoes are very comfortable.

I have been wearing New Balance shoes since I started running in the middle 1970's. I jogged for about 24 years and then switched to walking. I have been using the 990 New Balance shoe for decades now. I have never had any knee, ankle or hip problems. I attribute that to the stability the 990 provides me. I will never switch to any other type or model of shoe. When you find the shoe that is perfect for you; never change.

I have purchased about 15 pairs of this shoe over the past 10 years or so. It is the only running / walking shoe I use. Comfortable, durable, and good looking. Only downside I see is price, but as my parents always said "you get what you pay for".

It is a great shoe! I have had two pair of this same shoe in the past and this new version is even better!

This shoe would warrant a 5 star review if the heels didn't wear down do fast. I manage maybe 5 months before replacing. So, the quality of the shoe other than the heels is 5 star, 3.5 on the heel longevity. There is a black piece on each heel that wears too quickly.

These shoes are super to walk in. They cushion my feet and definitely help protect my joints. Used New Balance shoes to run in for many years. These are definitely The Best yet. I have been averaging 7-8 miles a day and some days much more.
