Less than a year old (8-10mths), maybe only 100k of hiking and the inner heel area is ruined in only on one shoe. The lacing system is horrible, laces must be constantly under tension while tying or they'll loosten to their default level.

A reviewer wrote in that these are the same as Moab. These shoes at not even close to the Moab. Spend the extra money and buy the Moab's. My first pair were Moab.

The fit on these were plain awful and painful. Returned one (10M) and my partner took the second pair (9.5M) off of me. I have worn five pairs of Merrells Yokota Trail Ventilators (10M) for four years now, because they were one of the few well fitting shoes I can wear. They have now been discontinued and I naively thought these Alverstones would be good replacements. NOT! The quality has definitely eroded on the material and build of the shoes. After one, one hour leisure walk in the 9.5 sized Alverstones, the soles of my feet were hurting during and after the walk. My old YT Ventilators were always ready to wear, straight out of the box, with absolutely no pain or “wearing in” needed. The Alverstone colors (black/lime) are nice but the shape of the shoe is a bit wide and clunky looking for my taste. Would have preferred a thinner more streamlined shoe. The quality of Merrell has really gone down the tubes but their prices remain higher than ever and not worth the inferior product they are producing now a days.

I've owned several pairs of Merrells and this is the first pair that did not fit well. They are so uncomfortable and ill-fitting that I kept wearing my old pair. They feel like they aren't made by the same company as my other Merrells which all fit perfectly. Actually one of the worst pairs of shoes I have ever bought.

TIME FOR A RECALL ON THIS PRODUCT! THE PHOTOS ARE IN MY CAMERA. i'M IN A COFFEE SHOP WITH FREE WIFI. I JUST SEE RIGHT NOW I WAS IN A SITE LIKE THIS A FEW DAYS AGO, MAYBE IT WAS THIS ONE, THE HEALS, LUG PATTERNS WEAR THROUGH TO A HOLLOW INNER SPACE SO YOU ARE ACTUALLY BUYING 1/2 A SHOE. YES, THE SHOE IS PRETTY BUT THERE IS NO WAY IT WILL LAST NOW. I AM NOW WAITING READY FOR WATER, STONES, EARTH TO MIGRATE INSIDE TO MY SOX. IT WAS I AM SURE ONLY INTENDED TO USED ON FEATHERS, PERHAPS GRASS, MAYBE AT THE SPACE STATION WHERE THERE IS NO REAL PLACE TO WALK.

I recently purchased two pairs of the Alverstone, size 11 (both pairs). I bought a black pair which fit perfectly. I then purchased a blue pair which was exactly the same size I ordered when I purchased the black pair. With the blue pair, the left shoe feels like it's a half size too small. I've (unfortunately) worn them out hiking a couple of times and ended up with a sore left foot. I'm disappointed in the quality of manufacturing of the exact same shoe, but with different color.

I wore the new Alverstone for a 6 mile walk with no real tough elevation gain and my feet were sore and hurting more then other Merrell shoes have owned. Then I took them to the Santa Monica mountains for a more grueling hike with a gain about 1.5 miles elevation and I made it up the very top with feet pain and soreness but I the way down I notice lots of pain on one of my feet so I re-laced both shoes tighten them up but the pain was still there and it got worst. Once I got home I found a huge blister on the bottom of my left foot. Been a week since then and I can finally go back and hike since the huge blister is almost healed. Long story short I am very disappointing in these shoes and now I regret buying them as they will become a very expensive dust collector in my closet since I can not return them as they have been used. -Frank C
