Thought I was getting a good deal because of price but just cheaper version of their better shoes.

I needed a shoe for fast and light day hiking and backpacking in hot weather. It's pretty well-ventilated, and my feet didn't get too hot even in 95-100 degree heat. I really wanted to love it, but the heel-to-toe drop is a bit excessive.

I have been buying Merrell products for the last 20 years. Have worn out many pairs of size 13 Medium shoes. I buy a pair of these in my regular size put them on and start using them. After 3 hikes, I realize they are just to small and hurt my feet. Contacted Merrell, they can't do anything since product was used outside. Now I have a pair of shoes that are brand new and I can't use. Not happy.

I've been a customer of Merrell for 11years. I've noticed a trend in their shoe quality getting worse. These shoes proved that again when one of the eyelets broke in less than 12 hours of wearing them. Merrell took care of it but I just wish they would address what seems to be a growing trend in the comment sections about quality.

I have wide feet and have been through most of the major manufacturers, unsuccessfully looking for additional alternatives to the Merrell Moabs I have worn for years. In my experience, most of the other manufacturer's "Wides" appear to be on the same lasts as their regular "non-wide" shoes and only the uppers are any "wider". This obviously leads to a situation where my feet overhang the lasts themselves. Sadly, the Alverstone seems to exhibit this same trait - the lasts are considerably more narrow than on the Moabs. I immediately compared them to the same size and width Moab 2 mids in the same order and they're about 1/4" narrower across the ball of the foot area (pictured) and even narrower through the heel. I was excited to see that Merrell had added more wide offerings, and equally disappointed to find that these Alverstones were so much narrower than the Moab 2s.

Bought a month ago and unlike my other Merrell shoes they don't fit as well. Cramped toe area. Of course I've worn them outdoors so they can't be returned. Unusable for me.

I purchased this hoping for a good hiking shoe that also would be versatile in the snow. The reviews were generally positive, so I ordered a pair. The arches in the shoe are too far back, I have no idea how someone would have a foot that is structured in a way that would fit in this. This also seems to run slightly smaller than same sized shoes, so I might need a half size up, but even with the increase, I am skeptical of the fit. The shoe also seems like it was made for wider feet because of the way the laces tighten. I could see how this would be a comfortable fit if your feet fit this shoe.

I was disappointed. I feel like my other hikers from merrell could double as sneakers. Not these. They are Not very comfortable as the soles are too hard - cardboard-ish.

They run small and due to lacing eyelets, can't be laced tight.

I purchased these because they were "Merrell" and exactly what I was looking for. However, when I received them the fit was very wide and unworkable for me. I do have a narrowish foot but I can easily wear medium width shoes from other brands. I was swimming in these and so I opted to return them. They may work for you but if you have a narrow foot you should probably look elsewhere.

I am preparing to hike a portion of the Colorado Trail. Initially, I loved these shoes - they are light and comfy right out of the box. Like my other Merrill boots, there was essentially zero break-in time. Unfortunately, after 175 miles of training with a 35lb pack, holes have started to appear on the bottom of the soles. I've plugged them with Shoe Goo but I expected to get more mileage out of these shoes.

They seemed to be not like other Merrells I have worn, and even are less comfortable than a gray pair (Crosslander 2) that I bought at the same time, even though the treads are the same for the sole. Lousy insole, made my feet hurt. I am giving them away; maybe they will be OK for someone else.
I'd also recommend:
Ecco, Timberland, Minnetonka, Addidas

Purchased 2 pair one for myself and one for an 11 year-old. Size, as with all of our other purchases' were spot on. We bought almost 12 weeks prior to an extensive hike allowing time for break-in. Both of us wore them daily but it was mostly short hikes and around the neighborhood for break-in. When we did hit the trail at aprox the 10 mile mark both of us were hit with foot pain across the entire sole. We had to breakoff the hike and find orthotic inserts to continue.

Very nice shoes but I think the quality is going downhill. This is my third pair of Merrell shoes and I am more disappointed with each pair. Still better shoes than the competition IMO but could be better. After wearing these shoes for only a few weeks, one of the red shoestring eyelets broke.

The left shoe exhibits a "clicking" noise with each step as though a rock was trapped in the tread......but it's not. I would like to return for replacement.

Have had Merrells before and needed wide shoes . . . these just didn't cut it. My toes fell off the insole. Gotta send 'em back.

Simply the worst shoes I have ever worn in my life. I have thousand of miles wearing Merrill shoes and boots and have never had a problem. I hike and walk for a living and have never had foot problems. I choose these shoes for a three month hiking vacation in Europe. After a week I could barely walk due to bruising and swelling on the balls of my feet. These shoes have ruined almost a month of my trip and the area I'm in does not have shoes locally available in my size. Monarch support. Do not buy.

They don't use Vibram technology. The sole is poor dosen't have good grip. Arch support is in the wrong place. Stick with Moab.

Needed new Merrills. Typically purchase size 9 & 1/2 wide Moab goretex. Nothing even close to my size. Ended up having to buy Alverstone size 10 standard width. Not happy with fit or selection.

Merrell didn't send me the shoes they promised me. I believe they baited me into purchasing them at a greatly reduced rate and never expected to deliver on them. They still owe me a pair. I was very unhappy with the way they handled that order.

Bought these a couple of days ago, first time putting them on and the lace retainer popped out. One attempt at tightening the laces and the stitching on one of the fabric eyelets went, luckily on the first time. Will be returning these promptly. Disappointing as I've worn Merrells for years and this does not meet the high standards I've come to experience.
