We tried these on in the wide width. They are wider than normal "wide" shoes, so we had to send them back. Even with thick socks they wouldn't work.

I like these shoes a lot. I fit into a half size smaller than sometimes need. They are very comfortable. I like the dark grey rubber on the toes (black is so severe) and it makes them look a little less like boots so they're appropriate for more occasions. They are water proof, but when I first tested them I thought it was a fail because my feet got so cold in the water, but after a few minutes out of the water I realized my feet were actually dry inside. The weave material transmits the cold very quickly. One criticism: the soles are well gripped, but very flexible so I feel more stones on the ball of my foot when walking on gravel. But not unduly so. I suspect my feet will tire a little quicker on a l-o-n-g boulder-y hike. But they are light and comfortable and so make great combo shoes. The suede finish does tend to attract and hold onto dust.

These were too small for me to really get a true sense of their ideal comfort.

As with most Merrell shoes, these were comfortable right out of the box. The shoes are good looking and will attend a variety of activities.

My order was delivered in just a few days, with prior updates.
The Alverstons weight I was lighter than expected, with a nice fit and great arch support.

I really like Merrell shoes across the board. I typically wear a 14-15 in most shoes, with 15s being on the larger side most often. In Merrells though, the 15 is small. My toes touch the front. I think this hiking shoe fits pretty well overall. I like that it has arch support, but also enough room to fit orthotics. I would suggest ordering at least a half size larger than your normal size.

Being a recent Merrell convert I am pleased with this shoe as it fit and felt great right out of the box, despite being slightly larger than expected. The sole has solid but comfortable support from the heel through the arch and took some getting used to switching from sneakers to these. These have been my daily shoes for 2 weeks now and I have no complaints. In hindsight I am curious as to the fit of the next 1/2 size down for comparison but am content with the fit of my current size.

Breathable and rugged enough to wear on the trails and comfortable enough to wear on the pavement. You get a quality shoe for a great price. Very good arch and heel support with a nice traction design that grips rocks very well. Takes a minute to get used to the beefy type soles, but not too clunky. I like how Merrill tweaks it's color scheme, but not in a radical way. Good purchase.

I wear these to work daily. They provide great support and feel comfortable right out of the box. Only downside is they are a little bulkier than I expected, but much appreciate after warehousing work all day.

I feel these shoes are a little wide fitting. They are comfortable but after an hour my feet feel a bit fatigued. I went and bought some inserts in an effort to create more comfy-ness. I just spent a few months dealing with my other new pair of shoes which I had much disappointment with and right out of the box these felt comfortable and "Gave" more with my feet. I'm also really happy that the shoelaces do not come loose after 20 minutes like the other shoes I recently bought.

Nice summer shoe, but the W is like a EEE when an E would be about perfect for me. Exchanging for a medium to see if that will work.

I really want to love these, but the fit is different than any of my other Merrells. Usually I'll wear a 10.5 medium Merrell (like with my Moabs or Chameleon) and after a little break-in they feel great. However, the Alverstone is different. It's either a narrow toe box, or the length might ne a little off. Either way, I would recommend trying a 1/2 size larger, or perhaps a WIDE shoe to get a comfortable fit.

Advertised as a light weight hiking shoe but I disagree unless you are simply walking on a trail. The lacing system unfortunately does not tighten to hug your feet unless you have a very wide foot which unfortunately causes there to be too much tongue and not enough actual shoe rap. They are nice looking and OK for general use and the Merrill quality is definitely there.

Very comfortable, but the sole started breaking apart after about 400... 500 kilometers of walking in city conditions.
