Amazing shoe for arch support, firm supportive sole, and high instep comfort. Due to nerve damage and plant fas, I have feet that mostly like soft footbed Birkenstocks. But the Birks lace ups (except for Maine) don't have the thick heritage cork footbed and so do not work for me. Finally, this is a lace up walking and atheletic shoe that does the job! A knowledgeable shoe rep told me its a lot about the "shank". And if you don't want the gore tex try the x ultra 3 without the GTX. It is almost the same but in a lighter summery material. I'm getting the gore tex for wet cold weather and the other for hot weather. Be sure to try with and without socks and be aware that, like so many shoes, different colors differ by a half size. Guess it's explained by different assembly lines? Bless Zappos for letting me try New Balance, Vionic, and several others before finding these.

This shoe was both too narrow and too long. It was very tight around the widest part of my foot (my feet are probably just slightly wide of average there, but I don't usually have width issues in this type of shoe). At the same time, I couldn't lace them up tight enough to not slip at the heel when walking around the house. Also, not sure about the lacing system. I know it's the newfangled thing, but not sure why it would be better than laces. The extra length has no where to go, and you can't make subtle adjustments (like tighter around the arch than the toes) the way you can with laces.

I love this shoe! My 5th pair. Right out of the box and the first steps on the trail feel perfect as always. If you like a nice roomy toe box (like Keen, Birkenstock) these are the shoe for you. All of my other shoes are size 9/40.5 but that size in a Solomon is way to big and sloppy. So this is the only brand of shoe in which I wear an 8.5.

YAY, I finally found a pair of hiking shoes that fit my hard-to-fit toes. My second toe is substantially longer than my big toe, and it also curves up at the knuckle. So, I need a higher toe box (not wide, HIGH) and also a bit more length in the toe box. I also tried Merrill and Keen, but in both cases, the toe box was too short, though wide. These Solomons have lots of wiggle room for the toes in terms of height and length, without being sloppy wide. No worry about my toe hitting the front end of the shoe when walking downhill. Big thanks to Zappos for letting me try on several styles and return until I found the right match. Appreciate the super fast shipping, too. I'll always recommend Zappos to friends/family.

Overall this was just a terrible fit for someone with a long, narrow foot. These shoes were quite wide for me and the laces are thin strings that didn't tighten down enough, yet they made the top of the shoe uncomfortable. The top of the shoe also came too high on my ankle. Also the insole was flimsy and when I tried to replace it with my Powerstep insole instead, the insole would not sit flat down into the shoe; it was stuck at an odd angle.

Incredibly comfortable right out of the box. My first wear I spent hiking up and down mixed rocky terrain (including a lot of loose rock and gravel) on a hot and humid day. The shoes were grippy on all terrain and my feet never felt hot. Also no rubbing whatsoever!

Over the years I’ve bought many pairs of Salomon, in fact only Salomon for work, walking and hiking. I’ve taught ceramics four years and worked on cement floors and these shoes save my feet. Only criticism of this particular pair of shoes is the pocket on the tongue is too narrow or the angle is too severe when tightened, and pushing the laces in the pocket has been a struggle. First time I’ve ever had any sort of a problem with any Salomon. Still my favorite brand.

Liked the technical features of this (waterproof/traction) combined with sneaker design instead of a boot, and they felt fairly light with good arch support. I didn't like the speed laces, because they prevented me from being able to adjust them from sliding around on my heel. Also, the front of the ankle cutaway came up a little high and felt uncomfortable on my ankle bone.

I have wide feet, so finding a good hiking shoe is very difficult. After putting these on, I was prepared to LOVE them! They felt great in the toe box. However, upon walking around the house in them, I found that the heel was far too wide. Even after tightening the laces as much as possible, my heel continued to slip as I was walking in them. Unfortunately, I had to return them.

Amazing right out of the box. On my first wear I was out for an hour and a half and had absolutely no rubbing or discomfort whatsoever. They’re lightweight and performed well on different types of terrain. Spent a lot of time on loose rock and gravel and these shoes were a winner. I should also mention that is was extremely hot and humid but my feet did not feel at all hot. Last thing, the quick lace system makes getting into and out of these shoes a breeze. Where has this been all my life!?

I had to return this pair. It looks way much better than the traditional hiking boots, however, I did not like the fit. I am usually a 7.5 M on majority of shoes. This is too long, but narrow. I could feel it constricting my feet. I tried a 7 wide and it is way too big. It feels stiffer maybe due to the GTX material.

Comfortable out of the box, didn't need to break in at all! Excellent quality, built to last. No leakage, breathable and comfy. No-lace but perfectly adjustable. I personally had no problem with the fit, they're extremely comfortable; first time I put them on I walked outdoors for a few hours, on grass, dirt, across a narrow river, on both uneven and even surfaces, inclines and paved areas and experienced no pain or discomfort! Highly recommend to other people who enjoy trekking and similar outdoors activities.

Although Zappos "recommended" a size 9, I bought my normal size 10 like my previous pair of Salomons and they fit perfectly. Great right out of the box. Can't wait to try them on the trail. I have a long, narrow foot and high arch, and these are perfect. Pricey but I think they'll be worth it. Last pair still going after five years!

This shoe runs approximately one half size large. The arch support is significant, and the right felt different than the left. The quick lace system makes it difficult to tighten the shoe enough to prevent heal slipping and I anticipate it would be hard to break in as they were extremely hard. Additionally, the white stipe in the sole is an interesting choice for a trail shoe as the mud would show easily. Wanted to love this shoe, but I just couldn’t...returning it as soon as possible.

I wanted to love this shoe. It hugs my foot and the support is just right except that it hits my ankle bones.

Like other people I struggled with fit. I really wanted these to work and have a true hiking boot because the arch support was amazing & #1 thing I look for. Unfortunately sizing felt oddly long per the shoe size. And like other people I could feel the boot rubbing my ankle while trying on at home and feared it would rub my ankle sore on the trail. I also purchased the men’s version for my husband and he absolutely loves them. Said they are the most comfortable shoe ever. That’s the thing with shoes, they fit everyone differently.

The best hiking shoe I have ever found. Got my first pair in Wales, after the airlines lost my bag. This is my 3rd pair. Tried a pair of Merrills in between, no comparison. I do have flat feet, so I always use a really good additional insert. The form, fit and longevity of this shoe is excellent, given the price. I use them to street walk 5x a week. I only give them up, when I have worn down the bottom completely. Best shoes ever!

Absolutely beautiful shoes and the fit was perfect, until I walked around in them. On me, both shoes quickly rubbed my ankles enough to show marks on my skin. The only shoes that I’ve tried that have done that. Sorry to send them back.

My 2nd pair, great light-weight but sturdy hiking shoe, especially in cold wet climate. Super comfortable, good all day wear. I think this style runs c. half size large, but maybe designer planned that for thick socks. I've learned to leave more toe room for long hiking days so the extra length is appreciated.

I followed the advice from other reviews and ordered 1/2 size smaller than my normal size. The shoes fit perfectly. Love the wider toe box too. Not the most stylish of shoes but comfortable right out of the box which is always important to me.

These were very promising but they came up a bit high on the ankle bone, so they don't work for me. I tried on a similar pair at REI and the salesperson showed me how I could customize the fit with the quick lace by stopping the action with my finger partway down. I found the laces easy to use, but wonder what would happen if a lace broke on the trail.

I'm loving the soles on these hiking shoes! So much more grip than provided by Vibram. I'm able to negotiate steep downhill trails better in these than in previous pairs of trail runners and hiking boots that I've owned.

I have problem feet and boy do I want this sneaker to work. Usually, I have to order an 8.5 to get that little bit of extra width with the extra length. I actually need an 8 (sometimes slightly less) for length alone. In this shoe, the 8.5 was too long for me. I'm going to try it in an 8W. It has amazing support and cushioning, and while I really wish there was something to do with the extra length of the laces, I do like that they're so easy to pull tight and that they stay tight. I like the style, too. All in all, I have my fingers crossed that this quality shoe will work for my pain-in-the-butt feet in a smaller size.

These shoes felt great right out of the box, no break in period. Very comfortable and stylish. This is my second pair of Salomon, after wearing out my first pair, and I’m really sold on this brand/style for my foot issues. The lacing was ample and my only issue was that the lace thing was left kind of long and flopped around a lot after tightening them.

I love this hiking shoes with my smartwool ankle high socks, it holds my feet in place, I feel like my feet are protected well uphill and downhill because of how thick it is, will recommend to my friends.
