I have been wearing the Salomon-XUltra's for 10 years. Absolutely loved them. Decide to treat myself to a new pair this year. However there is something different about them. They now seem to be a stiffer shoe, which is fine, but there's something different about the heel beds. Both my heels hurt immediately when I wore them. The size is correct, toes not hitting the end, lots of room in the toe bed, etc. I have never had an issue, I can only surmise that the stiffer boot has changed the heel angle? My heels seem to rub the outer edge of the shoe and the bottom of my heels hurt as well. I have tried hikes of 2, 3 and 4 hours, no change with "break-in". I am going to see if I can find a pair of last years shoes to buy. Sorry Solomon, but Im not thrilled with this year model

This is my 4th pair of these shoes and they've always been my favourite 'go to' shoe. However, this model is now a completely different fit - smaller and stiffer at the top of the shoe. I'd had to return them as they are not comfortable. I recommend you try them before buying if you've had these shoes before as they are not the same fit (or quality).

I have this same shoe in an earlier model. In the earlier model I can wear medium thickness socks. This shoe is so narrow that it is almost difficult for me to put my foot into the shoe barefoot. Both the earlier shoe and this one are women's 8. Ordering up a size is not going to fix the problem of the shoe being made so narrow.

If you have genuinely high instep ("arch"),this shoe will not work for you.The the instep is a disaster;length felt perfect;styling is what I want, great color(blue version).I am a size 7 in nearly all shoes(dress/hike/casual),slightly wider foot, definitely a "B" -- with the speed lacing plus the low instep on this shoe, I could barely get the shoe on. I was hoping it would feel right after getting the thing on my foot, only to find that even the toe-box was squishing my toes too much (in the horizontal plane). The gusset on the tongue was maxed-out,as was the lacing. There is a review here of this same shoe regarding great fit for a high instep, wider foot, roomy toebox, but the shoe I tried on was such a huge disappointment -- simply no chance of wearing this shoe with a high instep foot or a not-narrow forefoot. The shoe is a Salomon "X Ultra 3 GTX W" size UK 5.5//EUR 38 2/3 //USA7//Japan 24. I am disappointedly returning them for a refund, wondering if the factories make them all different ways and they only fit some people some of the time, a luck-of-the-draw-for-you situation.

i have always worn 9.5 size salomon shoes for over a decade and now they do not fit... the only thing i can think of is that they used to be manufactured in Viet Nam and these are made in India... Disappointed.

I bought the X ULTRA 3 GTX five months ago and I cannot wear it anymore. I felt them very hard from the beginning, they have never molded to my feet. They were not completely resistant to water either, I have worn other running shoes and when I step on a puddle my foot has not gotten wet at all; I cannot say the same for the X ULTRA 3 GTX. In addition, after some uses, the back part has come unstitched, and it makes some scratches on my heels very painful. The result is after 5 months I cannot wear them anymore. They are my first Salomon and I am sorry to say that they will be the last.

Ugly. Really ugly. Too narrow to wear. Laces need instructions. Went with the Merrill Moab instead. With hiking sock, a better fit.

OUCH! OUCH! OUCH! These shoes horribly squeezed the portion of my foot just below the widest part of my foot. I put on one shoe on and almost immediately took it off. The fit was so painful and tight I didn't need to try on the other shoe. I think this shoe runs very narrow. The location of the arch support seemed off from where it should be. The tuck away shoelace tab is the worst I've seen in this type of shoelaces! The little mesh pocket is too small and tight. After much pushing and shoving I still couldn't get it to completely stuff back in the pocket. If you want a rock hard shoe w/absolutely no feel of cushioning then this might be your shoe. I seek out firm shoes vs. cushioning, but the firmness in this shoe seemed excessive. It does look to be a solid, well built shoe though that would handle rugged terrain.
