I'm 70 years old and have started to do more walking on local trails. I was looking for boots to give me ankle support. These were the second boots I tried but expensive. I wanted to try some less costly, so I tried other brands and styles both online and in local stores. In the end these were a good fit and comfort. I have wide feet and Salomon offered wide boots. The pair I ended up with are a size up from my regular shoe size. They just felt perfect as soon as I put them on. Yes, they were expensive. But, you need the right fit and comfort or what good are they.

Wow! I think I've finally found a boot that I can hike in without pain. I have wide feet and deal with chronic foot pain from a neuroma in the ball of my foot. I've tried on many different pairs of wide-width hiking boots. So far, this pair is the only one that's truly wide enough not to squeeze my toes. They accommodated my orthotics with no problem. Super-comfortable, springy sole, easy to put on & take off. Tried them out on a long walk today and they felt great. Hooray! The only thing that's not super-great is the shoelaces, which keep coming untied. I'm planning to switch them out for a better-quality lace. Otherwise, completely and enthusiastically recommended.

Amazingly comfortable, supportive, and nice looking boot. This boot is basically lined in something like memory foam everywhere--all around the foot--and it will conform to your foot within 10 minutes of wearing it. It also has a very good amount of cushioning on the bottom, but not so much that you can't get good traction and grip with ground feel, etc. I have the Merrell Moab and another Merrell (I forget the name but it's waterproof and a hiker too) also and there is no comparison. The Salomon is a vastly superior boot. On sale, it's not pricier (thought it is at reg. price. But totally worth it.) While the Merrell is comfortable and caused no blisters, etc. on regular 5 mile hill hikes, I can't imagine wearing it all day long, or for repeated days in a row, and the bottom of my feet get sore after even a 5 mile hike. I have very difficult feet (post-chemo neuropathy, arthritis from AI drugs, small bunions, narrow heel, very wide forefoot, and very bony feet, with thin bony ankles. Only with this boot can I hike two or more days in a row. I put this on and feel I could leave it on all day. It is such a great boot (and I've had it at least 9 months now), that I am here to buy another because I live in fear that Salomon may stop making it! I also just bought my husband a mens' pair. As for the colors, I have the blue -all that was available when I purchased. I'm not a fan of flashy shoes myself, and was worried about the yellow on the boot, but it's not very noticeable and frankly, once you've done a dusty hike, the boot will dull and it's even less noticeable. :) The blue is not super bright and actually overall the boot is very nice looking. The lacing can be micromanaged to get a good fit. I find I need to lace it, and then, 10 minutes or so later, relace, because the boot does mold to the foot and then I usually tighten the laces a bit. If in doubt, buy this. Best hiking boot I've ever had. I don't use it for heavy backpacking--just day hikes with at most a lunch, water, and jacket, so can't speak to how this would work with a heavy pack, etc.

I do a ton of hiking and backpacking in the Sierras and have never wear hiking boots, just lightweight trail runners. I got these for a trip to Iceland which I knew would be pretty wet and cold. They are my new favorite thing! They were comfy right out of the box, super cozy but not too hot, fit my narrowish foot perfectly. They were waterproof through days of wet hikes and horseback rides, and treks around a glacier. I wish I could wear them to work now that we're back. They'll be my preferred hikers from now on.

This lightweight boot gets great reviews on backpacking sites, and the heavier backpacking style (the Salomon Quest) fits my feet well, which are narrow in heel and wide in toe, but I could not get a good fit with this style. The narrow was too cramped in the toe box, and the wide was too wide in the heel/ankle. I also didn't like the colors, which reminded me of my kids' sneakers. However, I loved my old Salomon backpacking and hiking boots from 4-10 years ago for traction and durability. I wish they hadn't change the fit for women. I also like how you don't need to size up in Salomon to fit a wool sock and orthotics. I tried many other brands and like the Scarpa best so far.

After years of loving Keens, (because of wide toe box as I have a neuroma), I was finding the tread insufficient for rocky and slippery terrain.
After a long search, I came across these Salomon boots in a wide width, and specifically designed for a woman’s foot. They are comfortable and lets my toes spread out while hugging my heel in place.
They are light weight, but have a ton of tread and lots of padding. Haven’t yet tried them out on the trails, but can already tell these treads are going to get me through a tough hike in the Alps this summer. Will update this once I’ve tested them on a rough trail.
Style, well, hiking boots are not worn for style, but these are pretty good looking.

After quite a bit of hiking boot research, I ordered this shoe in an 8M and an 8-1/2M. The manufacturers’ size chart indicated I would wear an 8 (which fits perfectly) but I also ordered the 8-1/2 because that is the size I wear in an athletic shoe and I also have orthotic inserts, which can affect the shoe fit. Love the color (I bought the gray/raspberry) and like the styling/looks of the shoe. It does not look at all like a hiking boot. I am returning the 8-1/2 as it is too large, both length and width, and my foot moved around inside the shoe. The verdict is still out in the size 8. It doesn’t feel like the shoe arch is positioned correctly on my foot with my orthotic. The shoe is more comfortable without my orthotic, but after suffering three years with plantar fasciitis, I am reluctant to go hiking in a boot without it. Right now I am wearing the size 8 inside the house, one shoe without the orthotic and one with, to compare the feel and support. I will likely order a few additional styles of hiking boots now, to compare, since I am not 100% convinced this boot offers the best fit for my foot. If you have normal feet, I would highly recommend this hiking boot. Comfortable right out of the box, great styling, very well made.

I was looking re-purchase the lighter mid-high "XA" version (not manufactured anymore) which I LOVED (now available only as low but not as mid, so no use for rainy days or trailrunning/hiking through muddy terrain). I still love the "low" version, for short runs, and just deal with the wet socks.
PROs: I really liked the more bulky sole on the X - it is still cushioned, but stiffer, with more support below, great for stony trails.
CONS: I hated the forefoot fit. The lacing system starts just a bit too low so it pulls on the widest and boniest part of the foot - uncomfy even just stepping in, more uncomfy laced up. I typically buy narrow shoes if there is the option due to a narrow heel, but my forefoot is normal width typically.
So my quest for a comfy mid-high boot starts again, moving to other brands, wish me luck!

Really like the look and color of this boot. I wear and 8 1/2 and this felt like a 71/2 to 8. I felt a seam against the top of both feet when I placed my foot in the boot. No question I'd get blisters immediately. Too bad.

I do quite a bit of hiking, but as my bunion expanded, my boots were uncomfortable. These boots are perfect for my feet and the ease of putting them on is top notch!

I wore these shoes on my 166 miles walk on the Camino de Santiago. They are lightweight and well ventilated with excellent arch support for a long hike. Gore-Tex kept my feet dry while I hiked through drizzling rain. I absolutely loved them because I did not get a single blister !

This is the 3rd pair of hiking boots I've tried out this year in prep for an Alps hiking tour later this summer. My Columbia boots purchased several years ago were feeling kind of tight in width, and the Ahnu ones I've been wearing for short hikes really started to hurt the bottoms of my feet (!) on longer training hikes. So I went back "out to market" looking for something for wide feet and great cushioning and arch support. These hit the arch of my foot EXACTLY where I need them to and after a 2-hr 20-min "inaugural" hike up and down some majorly steep hills, my feet were not achy or crampy at all. I'd definitely recommend these.

These are great mid-model hiking boots. Salomon is an excellent company. I have a pair of their super-duper mid-calf boots for hiking in the Adirondacks and the White Mountains. I saw these were on sale and got them for more moderate day hikes. Also, because they are Gore-tex and have great traction, the would make great snow boots as well. I have their Trail Runners and their light running shoes also, although I am not a runner. I use them for walking. Excellent arch support and lots of toe room.

Perfect straight out of the box and wore them all day. I bought the blue in an 8M and I'm on a waiting list for the 8W for future reference for this brand. I was a runner for decades, have had a torn ligament repaired, and foot surgery to rotate my heel and lower my arch. I have also had 2 knee replacements. I walk correctly in these Solomon boots which helps with my posture and my back. I'm waiting on my new orthotics to arrive to wear with these boots. To say that these boots are a miracle is an understatement. These are my first pair of Solomons and I could not be more pleased. As always, I am so thankful for Zappos. They are nonpareil and I always shop here first. I rarely buy shoes for myself anywhere else. I also love buying our grandchildren's shoes from Zappos.

I bought both these and the Merrell Moab. These have better arch support than the Merrell but are definitely stiffer and need more time to break in. I think these in the long run may be more durable. Time will tell.

After trying many (many!) sizes and brands of hiking boots, I settled on this one. I have bunions and painful feet and needed something with a wider toe box to allow my feet to swell without hurting while hiking. I usually wear an 8 M, but decided to go up a full size and to go up in width also to a 9W just for this reason. That worked really well for my first 5 mile hike on rocky and hilly terrain in these boots. Going up a size allowed for lots of extra length and width so that nothing nothing hurt by the end of the hike. If you do not have problem feet, I'd still recommend these shoes and would recommend you stick with your regular size.

I got a pair of these in 2018 for a 9-mile hike in the heat with elevation that I was building up to. They worked great, comfortable from the get go and lightweight.
This year, I was looking for an additional pair of hiking boots to keep at another location. I ordered 7 pairs, including this one. I tried them all, but ended up with the Solomon XUltra3 mid GTX since none of the others fit as well.
I had an ankle fracture in the past, so need some ankle support and have bunions on both feet. These shoes really work for me.

These are pretty and rugged shoes - I wanted to love them but on me they just felt a bit narrow (not that the sizing was off, just seem to be made more that way) and my toe did hit the end, and yet I don't think a bigger size would have fit me better (if that makes any sense??!). They also felt heavy to me, although I looked up the size and they aren't THAT heavy. Yet, they just felt heavy. I didn't love them on me, but thought the shoe was nice and worth a try. I think if you have skinner feet/ankles and perhaps are looking for a more solid step in terms of weight, these are winners.

I am rating 5 stars with my initial review. I have only put 20 miles on these, but I've climbed 1400' at a time, stepped into a creek when I missed the log and just walked on loose rock and trail. All have been in the mountains of Idaho. Zero break-in period. My foot stayed dry, even though I fully stepped into the water. They are new, so I'm sure that feature will wear out, if previous Solomon experience proves true. I have 2 pairs of Pathfinders(?) but not the wide foot profile. I hike with my toes up and lose toenails all the time. In my running shoes or my pathfinders, my toes get abused. With these guys... and I had to look for an available pair...my feet are comfy. I wear a 7-7.5, always sized up for running shoes and my Pathfinders are 7.5's, so reading reviews, I gambled and bought 7.5. Perfect fit for med weight socks. I'm short, so I like the ankle length, it's functional and protective. So far, the laces (some have complained, I just double knot), the toe box plastic (still intact, but I'll watch and detract stars is need), have all worked great. For reference, I wear a 7- 7.5 shoe and boot. I always order up a size for athletics. I only went to a 7.5 for these and with the wide width, they are PERFECT for me. I'm 5', 110lbs. Terrain is dry northern mountain areas (elevation, rocks, shale, gravel). Why Solomon only does a couple wide width shoes irritates me. I had to really look elsewhere to find a pair of these.

I've worn these for about 3 months so far with foot/ankle problems (not from boots) and my feet/ankles have done well in these particular boots. I wear foot/ankle braces and I have NOT had issues with laces coming undone as I have read in other reviews. I needed comfortable, sturdy and supportive boots for all day geologic fieldwork in uneven, rocky terrain and these really held up for what I needed them for while also wearing/carrying up to about 20 lbs of supplies and gear all day. I now wear them in woody, forested areas and have not gotten them wet so far so I can't review that aspect. Overall, I have been pleased in the months I have worn these.

I bought a half size larger as recommended for winter hiking. I have to wear double socks but that gives them the perfect fit. They are much more comfortable than I expected. The tread are perfect for hiking the rocky trails of Pennsylvania. I plan to get a low version in my regular size for summer.

Perfect fit. It was like walking on clouds. I have a problem with my left ankle and normally wear ankle braces with walking shoes. These boots provide plenty of ankle support and were (excuse the pun) were comfortable to boot. I would recommend these for those who like to walk off paved surfaces.

I ordered these to replace my Merrell Moab 2 boots, which served me very well for many mountain hiking miles, because of a bunion on my right foot that the Merrells were starting to bother. My normal shoe size is 7 wide, but I got the Salomons in 7.5 wide to accommodate wool socks and they fit perfectly. I didn't need a break-in period for these boots; we hiked roughly 20 miles this past week in the NC mountains over some very rough technical terrain and they didn't let me down. We went through some water that came up about 2-3 inches and my feet stayed dry. I'm very happy with them and would buy them again.

Perfecto right out of the box! Multiple surgeries on one foot with a still present unstable ankle make it tough to find shoes/boots for everyday purposes. These are the best! I am still up in the air on the size. Feels about a 1/2 size large. The real winner here is Zappos. Thank you for choosing to be incredible Zappos!
