I've been wearing boots for years! Spending time in the Marine Corps I've always thought I would need a couple months to break in boots to have them be "Comfortable". I wouldn't dare take a fresh pair of "B8TES" or "Banners" on a 10 mile hike or out to the field for a couple weeks. But I've heard nothing but great things about these Boots and Salomon overall! So the girlfriend and I planned to hike up Mt. Baldy. About an 11.5 mile 4,000 ft elevation hike. I did it along with a 40LB plate carrier to increase the work out. And boy by the end of the hike I was in love with these boots! The only breaking in I did prior to this hike was 3 hours wearing them around the house just to see how my feet felt in them. But they felt great from the beginning to the end of the 11.5 miles and 4,000 for elevation gain! For years I've suffered from planters fasciitis and Achilles tendinitis. I usually always flared up after even just a 5 mile hike in other boots and would be in pain for at least a week. But with these Quest 4D's this definitely wasn't the case! They are sized to the T. I'm a 9, ordered 9 and they fit like a 9. The heel drop is very slight compared to the traditional boot even though they don't look like it. Super grippy and my feet felt protected but didn't feel like they were in a straight jacket! These were my first pair of Salomon's and definitely looking to look more into their running and casual shoes!

These are very well made. I can wear these all day with no pain and for me that's key.

I've been backpacking and hiking since I was a kid. Growing up in a family that worked as Forester's and Wildland Fire Fighters we spent a lot of time in the woods. Over the years I've had boots from just about every brand. The Salomon Quest 4D's are the best boots hands down. I pulled them out of the box (ordered size 11 as I was told they run a little big. I'm an 11 on the dot but swollen feet and socks mean I like an 11.5). Did a quick ruck with them to make sure they'd work before taking off for an 8 day, 165 mile, 16,000' climb backpack in the Sawtooth Wilderness. The boots had no issue with any of it and zero brake in period. We hit 10,000' passes, 3 days of rain mixed with snow and wet undergrowth that everything was dripping wet, hot 80 degree days, snowfields, and a lot of bushwalking. The boots never got wet, didn't feel too hot, offered support with a 50 pound pack scouting and bushwhacking off trail and to my surprise we light.... Like lighter than my light hikers but a little heavier than my trail running shoes. Mind blown. I'm going to sell my other set of "heavy" boots for scouting and heavy packs as well as my light hikers. These cover every need of a boot without compromise. I'm just going to keep my trail running shoes and these.

I upgraded to this boot after finally wearing down my last pair of Quests and fortunately hasn't changed from the previous model. This is a comfortable, yet durable boot that requires little break in. Water-resistance is good for a "breathable" boot. Already taken these on some scrambles too and they performed well. Very happy yet again, thanks Salomon

All I can say is I am hard on my footwear. On my feet a lot if difficult terrain. These boots do great. Comfortable out of the box and once they really get broken in??? Really nice. Still waterproof! Oh by the way any time I ever had any issue with a salomon product??? They stand firmly behind them!!

I loved my pair of these boots ... so much so that I am looking to replace them ... but Salomon no longer makes them in a size 13.5. It was the perfect fit, and now I'm left looking for another supplier. Goodbye Salomon.

Have used this for about a month and I have to say this are high quality extremely comfortable boots. I don't hike but I do walk a lot and this are amazing at keeping my feet snugged and protected. Definitely would recommend and will purchase again.

Completed first 30km bike as a break in. No foot pain, blisters etc. Very comfy, stiffer sole for the rocks and held up in the wetter sections with a bone dry foot (other than sweat) at the end). Note I do find Solomon runs half a size small; I always end up getting half size bigger on Solomon shoes.

Have had this boot for several months now, and am very impressed. Took a bit to figure out how to best lock my heel in so it didn't move, but once I got that figured out, have had no issues whatsoever. Excellent traction on steep terrain.

I purchased this bot to replace a pair of work boots that had worn for over two years. This is almost the same boot I had been wearing except I chose the green instead of the black. I wore the last boots every day for work as a Game Warden. These boots were excellent for running tracking k9 units. This part I purchased as a personal pair of boots and I love the comfort and stability I get from this boot. This boot is solid and to some may seem too tight around the ankles. For me however this was a major plus. The ankle support I greatly needed while running through the woods behind a tracking dog. I can hit rocks and roots that wold normally roll my ankle, but with these Salomon boots I have never hurt or rolled my ankle. My feet are allowed to breath and my feet stay dry no mater the conditions. These bots are worth the purchase.

The last Salomon hiking shoes I bought was 10 years ago and they are the predecessor of the Quest 4D 3 GTX. I can't count the number if miles through the Rocky Mtns and Smoky Mtns I've hiked in them and they have always been my favorites. They FINALLY wore out after all the hiking miles, river crossings, rock scramblings, hot summers and freezing winters (although I still have them!) and it was time to get another pair. I ordered the Quest 4D 3 GTX and they fit like a glove right out of the box and feel just as comfortable and grippy as my last pair. Looking forward to the many hiking miles ahead!

I've had these boots for three weeks, worn them in the field for probably 7 work days. I do lot of off trail hiking for work. 4 days were spent in rainy conditions sawing cedars and dragging, stayed dry and held up well. 2 days hiking trails. Really happy with the purchase. The hooks around ankle allow you to have it tight on ankle but loose onshin. S

So—they will break in more, but at first they felt a little tight on the width. Overall, amazing shoes. I just took them out for my first real hike today. I felt totally secure and supported, with excellent padding to prevent blistering.

Had these bad boys delivered yesterday, they look great, feel high quality, and once I slipped my feet in them they hugged my feet just right. Headed to work with them on, on a 12 hour shift job with lots of walking. These are amazing, amazingly comfortable. Will definitely recommend and repurchase. Keep it up guys.

I had posted a review recently regarding how much I loved the boots but was disappointed that they leaked. I have had the boots for two years exactly and was pleasantly surprised today when I received the news that Salomon was replacing them. That's how you build a great reputation. Start with a great product and then back them up. Very impressed with the quality and function of the boots and now with the customer service. You have a customer for life.

Bought my first pair 2 weeks before ascending Mt.Whitney in 2010. No break-in time needed. Sticky and stable sole, waterproof, and very flexible boot. The mid way lace lock allows for a relaxed or tight fit below and above the ankle. I've slept in them on extended hikes, with sock liners and extra smartwools. I wore the soles down after a 60/40 mix of hiking and working. Easily 700 miles. New ones from 2016 are just as reliable. Highly recommend these boots and I will buy them again.

If I had to pick one pair of shoes because it was ' End of days ' and had to bug out,... These are them. My go to for hiking on the most difficult of terrain, comfortable enough to wear all day, any season, regardless of activity. In the right size you will feel like a superhero straight out of the box!

I purchased these boots about 2 years ago and have used them pretty hard. They have been used for everything from a casual office shoe to long distance tactical operations. This was my first pair of Salomons and I was pretty impressed, usually my boots only last a year. I did have some minor wear issues (I will note them in the pics). I plan on ordering another pair, and expect them to be just as good!

Only wore for an hour around the house and were broken in. Shore fished around a rocky lake from sunrise to dusk and they felt great and feet didn't get cold or over heat. I don't bait fish and keep moving around the lake so only sat for lunch. Walked through creeks quickly and no water inside the shoes. Also went salt water fishing from the shore and did have to stand in the water but it was above the shoe so of course my feet got wet. However, the shoes dried out in about 5hrs and no water got in them when I walked in the water any other time. Just don't dunk the shoes in and your feet stay dry. Have only had the shoes about a month, so far they're great!
