I purchased my Merrells MQM Flex in Black/Grey for my April into May trip to the Italian and Greek Isles, of course Athens, and Malta. I chose all the shore excursions to the “ruins”, which involved walking on cobbled roads, up and down streets and steps. Some days over 300 steps just in one direction. I am 73, with a knee that has been told need replacement for three years. I did great throughout the entire trip with just an ace type bandage for my right knee, and of course my Merrells MQM Flex (I could have picked a brighter color, but the one I chose did not have my size) with an added arch support! I have worn Merrells quite often, since my first pair of hiking boots in 1990. I wear them right out of the box, not neeeding a “break in” period. Merrells also last a long time. I generally replaced them not because they are worn out, but because I got tired of them and liked a new pair.
I'd also recommend:
For these kind of activities, I only use Merrells.

I am a long time Merrell user, and the line of trail runners, has been disappointing. This shoe finally, to me, is a traditional Merrell shoe. Fits great out of the box. Has good toe box flex. Great shock absorption throughout the shoebed but especially in the heel. As a trail shoe, I wanted and finally got good lateral stability, and a decent amount of traction. Good for light trails, walking, and just walking around in general.

These feel so good on my very picky feet! I use them for walking and the elliptical; they may be a bit overkill for those activities but they feel better on my feet than any other athletic shoe so I'm sticking with them. The toe box is plenty wide (I have a bunionette) and they offer great support so my knees, hips and back don't get tweeked. I could wear them all day they feel so good!

These are my first non waterproof hiking shoes. I wanted something more flexible and lightweight for my Arizona hiking trip. These shoes have just the right about of room, are comfortable right out of the box, and are very stable. I was very concerned with a previous reviewers statement that these have a very high arch as that tends to hurt my feet. I found the arch support to be standard and not overbearing. I love the black, grey and mint coloring.

I purchased these Merrell shoes in Ocean Depth - love the coloring. The shoe was immediately comfortable from the moment I put them on. Fantastic arch support. The shoe almost propelled me in walking. It feels very stable and supportive. They remained comfortable for the entire day of mixed use - mostly walking, climbing stairs, etc. My feet did get a little warm in them - even with a light sock - but not overly hot. Very happy with my purchase - definitely worth the price!

Very happy with these shoes. The medium width was roomy enough to feel comfortable with socks. The toe box was large enough to allow comfort but not shifting. I am a tough fit in shoes since I have Morton’s Toe ( second toe larger that the “big” toe) and that has caused a bone spur on one foot. Plus I have suffered from plantar fasciitis in the past and need a shoe with good support. The arch support is good but not intrusive. These shoes fit the bill. Plus the colors are just so cute! I would recommend.

I have 10s, I have 11s, I wear 41 in Alegria. I went with 10.5 here and they were comfortable out of the box. Tromped all over Madeline Island as a tourist on pavement, grass, sand, and super wet marshy grass. No problems at all.

This is my 4th pair which should tell you and everyone these are great. Dependable sizing and comfort just like Merrell used to have throughout. I like not having all the projecting sole which most hiking/walking shoes have. My earlier review(s) are under Boardwalk, 2018 Highly recommend (am requesting points please. )

I have wide feet and need good arch support. These shoes were comfortable as soon as I put them on. So glad I found these! Great for hiking in warm weather as they are light and let your feet breathe. Bonus points in that they are actually very attractive, and make your feet look smaller!! Yay!!

These are the shoes I've been searching for, forever! I'm a fit 53yo woman, but not a trail or road runner. I bought these shoes with long recreational walks in mind. I have a history of sports injuries especially lower body and tend to be rehabbing one body part or another at any one point these days! I have an especially finicky left big toe issue that if the show is even slightly too snug it sets it off. For me I'd say size wise either true to size or maybe running a little large. I think what makes me say that is that they fit so well that I was questioning whether they were too big because I can't feel them!!! I really think it's because they fit so well like all shoes should. I agree with previous reviewers who said finally Merrell is making a shoe like they used to with great toe box! What is notable about these shoes besides the excellent toe box is: - the flexibility of the forefoot without the rigidity and almost clunkiness of trail runners or heartier running shoes . I would venture to say that if you are a trail runner, you will really like these shoes. -the cushion throughout the footbed feels like I'm not wearing shoes, cloud-like even, but is not squishy -super supportive but again without rigidity -they feel light -nice looking -great traction/grippiness -excellent laces that stay tied -lots of flexibility in adjusting fit with laces

These shoes fit my foot perfectly--I have wide toes and a narrow heel. They are great looking, sleek and sporty. Sometimes I order a 7.5 with sports shoes, but my regular 7 fit perfectly in this style.

As stated in other reviews, these are comfortable right out of the box. I have a high arch and a high instep and walk on concrete for up to 12 hours a day. It is difficult to find a shoe with enough support and cushion so I have turned to one that is made for hiking and walking and it does the trick. Great shoe, great color, (I got the purple). I wish Merrell made more in purple. I would love one of their hiking boots in purple!

Bought these for hiking. They’re functional and look more like sneakers than hiking boots so way more versatile. Super comfy!

Buy good laces if you're purchasing this shoe. While I have no complaints about the comfort and overall style (this shoe delivers what Merrell is known for in that regard) the laces it comes with LOVE to come undone several times a day. Trust me - I'm an adult. I know how to tie shoes. I've tried several different methods, but these are slippery little suckers. I've ordered replacement laces on line. It's such a shame because the cuteness of the laces was one of the compelling reasons to buy them. And also the reason to knock the overall down by two. A bit infuriating to have to stop so often to tighten the laces.

I'm really enjoying these shoes. I hike 3-4 miles daily and these have been sturdy with good footing and arch support on the trail and working in the yard. They fit well and have a nice amount of room in the toe box. I definitely recommend these shoes.

I have a hard time finding shoes with a wide enough toe box that isn’t too wide. These are perfect. The arch support is excellent, much better than many other brand of shoes. Very comfortable and I am on my feet running all day. No buyer’s remorse whatsoever.

Very comfortable. I tried also Moab which was comfortable too. I will go with these because they are a bit lighter weight which I think will serve well for warm weather long distance walking.

I had high hopes when I ordered these. Thank you Merrell MQM Flex for meeting my expectations! My husband and I do a lot of traveling, hiking, and walking. These are perfect. I am thrilled to have a pair of shoes that cradle my feet as I take on trying to keep up with my athletic 6'4" husband. All of my foot aches disappear the minute I slip these on. My feet need a lot of support and these do the job. I am so thankful. I highly recommend these hiking sneakers.

This shoe didn't feel supportive. My foot slid a bit, inside as well as sideways as I walked. Not extreme sliding, but not secure. The more they make athletic shoes with mostly nylon fabric, the less sturdy they are. I walked around my house for an hour and got a back ache. I'm quite surprised that Merrell shows nothing but 5-star reviews...seems unlikely I'd be the only customer who wasn't happy with this shoe. I'm returning it for a different style. As time goes on, I have less and less satisfaction with Merrell shoes. They seem to be made more and more cheaply, mostly nylon fabric tops which are NOT supportive unless reinforced with a lot of nubuck strapping. I HOPE the next shoe fits...I've been trying and trying. I used to have a Merrell style that fit like a dream, but of course, they stopped making it.

I love, love, love these shoes! I wear a true size 10.5 US and have a hard time finding shoes locally. 10s are too small and 11s are too big. These Merrill’s fit perfectly and have great support. And I love the splash of color. I would buy them again, multiple times.

Based on reviews, I ordered 2 pair.in different colors. Only planed to keep 1 pair. The shoes were comfortable right out of the box. I decided the Fruitpunch pair would go back (more summer-y looking than I want for right now. I put on the other pair this morning for my daily 3-4 mile dog walk. Feet felt great. Took the other pair out of the returns box.

These shoes are great. I love the colors. I got fruit punch, very fun! They were great right out of the box, went for hike on rocky path and then to town for shopping with lots of walking on sidewalks, all in comfort. The arch support is important to me. Merrell never lets me down. Zappos is the best!
