They ran a little wide (I ordered standard width) but they are comfortable and look nice.

I thought this shoe would have been comfortable but the heel was too wide. I have read this in other shoe reviews. Manufacturers/designers please take note. Sometimes, depending on the way the shoe laces, a wide heel can be accommodated but most of the time it is unsafe and uncomfortable.

I had ordered 2 different styles of New Balance which I had to return as they were not wide enough. These shoes came in a WW and I love them. The cushion seems to be nice, plenty wide and accommodates my orthotics. I really like leather walking shoes, with the other mesh styles my foot seems to wiggle to much and causes me foot pain once they stretch out. I have several different brands of walking shoes and New Balance seems to be the one that fits my foot better than the rest. Thanks to Zappos for free shipping and a wonderful return service. I buy 99% of my shoes from them.

This is the first pair of New Balance shoes I have owned that slip in the heel area. I haven't decided if I will keep them yet and haven't worn them. I want to try them with a heavy weight sock to see if that helps but it's 100 degrees out.

I ordered both the black and the gray WW840v2 because New Balance no longer makes its 847v2 that I've been wearing for years. After reading the negative reviews of their replacement 847v3, I decided to look for something else. I have a wide foot, but I do not need orthotics. What I need is a shoe with a wide toe base, which is what New Balance used to produce. Anyway, based on Zappos reviews, I gave them one more try and ordered the 840's, size 71/2, one in wide; the other in extra wide. I returned the gray pair because the size wide was not wide enough. I kept the black pair, but I'm still not satisfied with it. It's barely wide enough, but I can get by with it if I wear very thin socks. My suggestion to someone who needs shoes with a wide toe base is to give up on New Balance and try Orthofeet in Size 4E. Their shoes provide removable inserts, so you can adjust them and they also have an easy-return policy. I will add, however, that if I could find shoes to fit, carried by Zappos, I would order from them if only because of their outstanding customer service.

VERY disappointed. Details stated that they had deep toe pockets, but not only did the sneakers touch the top of my toes, but they were very hard. I will be returning them.

I have really bad feet so I don't know how much help this review can be but.........here goes: considering I have a hammer-toe starting, osteoarthritis in my toes & instep & a bone spur stabbing me in the front of my ankle, these shoes weren't that bad but the material (inside) & shape of the toe box were rubbing on my big toe before I even stood up. I know I would end up with blisters so I sent them back.

I have a short, wide foot and have difficulty finding any shoe to fit comfortably. Judging from the many reviews I've read, this is a common problem and one almost universally not addressed by shoe designers. I chose New Balance 840v2 because the reviews indicated that it had a wide toe box. Previously I had worn New Balance 847v2. Unfortunately, according to the customer complaints I read, it seems that New Balance, as is their habit when they have a great shoe, discontinued 847v2 and replaced it with an inferior version with a narrower toe box. So I then decided to try this WW840v2. It appears to be well-made, sturdy, and supportive. With regret, however, I returned it for a couple of reasons. The 7 1/2 length was perfect, although a little shorter than other shoes that size. The width was wide, but just not quite wide enough. It is not offered in a wider size. The other reason for the return was that there are two posts at the top of the heel on either side of the ankle. They made the shoes just uncomfortable enough for me to decide against them. On a more positive note, I have been impressed with the great service from Zappos. Purchases arrive in record time and they make returns very easy for the customer. If I ever find shoes short enough and wide enough, I would prefer to buy them from Zappos rather than any other company I've dealt with.

The width felt too wide so did not offer support. The toe box was very roomy. I love the style so wish it fit better!

While I love the 840 and NB, I find that leather is too hot for the south. I have 2 pairs of the 840 in the mesh. I love the wide toe box and comfortable fit. Great cushion support. Mesh is great for the hot climate. I use the sneakers for walking and everyday life. I buy 1/2 size larger and 2E wide in all sneakers. Usually a 8.5 wide in shoes. Love the new balance brand and the 840 line. Wish the 840 was available in black mesh version.

I really like new balance shoes but although I ordered the right size, they have felt cramped in the toes.

True to size but with a shallow heel that did not work with my custom rigid orthotics.

As others have noted, the shoe needs a second eyelet on the collar to be able to make the heel lock loop. True to NB size; could use more arch support though. I returned them, which was easy thanks to Zappos! I was looking for a plush sneaker to wear for summer walks (I walk about 5 miles a day with my dogs), and my go-to NB style is currently sold out in the color I wanted. I have joined the waiting list.

Use for walking & housework. My third pair. Not as comfortable. Have to get large enough for my orthotics & they fit. Not enough cushion in soles. Had trouble ordering so called & no one there.

I went to the New Balance store to be fitted for a good pair of walking shoes, and I'm sorry, but these just don't cut it. I told the salesperson my size and she suggested a full size larger than I normally wear. She spent a lot of time with a custom fit, so gullible me thought she was correct! The New Balance Store has all the bells and whistles for sure. The shoes are too big and too wide, they also stretch out; after 1 mile of walking, I have to stop and tighten the laces-not fun. Bottom line, go with your instincts, if the shoe feels too big no amount of New Balance inserts (which they will try to sell you too) is going to help. The 840's are heavy, probably because of the leather, but the stretching is too much. I will say the arch support is pretty good.

New Balance 840v2. Shoe in 7EE did not fit, too narrow in the heel to accommodate my orthotic. I've been wearing Brooks Addiction Walker in 7EE for past 10 years and looking for new shoe since Brooks shortsightedly discontinued original and introduced Addiction Walker 2 which new design does not fit my foot as well. I may try this NB in 7.5EE as it may be cut small which is same thing I've found with Walker 2 - I've sized up in Walker 2 to 7.5EE and it fits better but a bit loose.
I'd also recommend:
