This shoe fit me true to size and is comfortable. However, the tongue slides to the side which I find uncomfortable so I am returning it for the 940v4 instead.

The sole on this is very hard . Little to no cushion. Not the ideal show for walking. Felt like walking or running on the concrete.

NARROW review: These shoes fit pretty good except for the heel area. Unfortunately, the heel of this shoe was too largefor my very narrow heel. Returned.

my size in athletic shoes is 9 .., mostly wide, sometimes medium unfortunately the extended rubber toe tip was uncomfortable, making it feel shorter and half size larger was too big

I started running in the 883s, and have been chasing that fit ever since - the first iteration of the 840 wasn't it, and neither is this one. The 883s had the wide forefoot *and* the deep instep *and* a concave insole that cradled the foot. This is yet another 840 that feels like a flat slab of rubber. Nope. I ordered the NB Fresh Foam 1080s at the same time in the same size, and those are keepers.

Toe area was ok,heel too wide.didn't like the dark gray.

Returned these not as comfortable as New Balance 1080s

There was so much to like about this shoe: the toe box was indeed extra wide as advertised (EE), the heel was snug in a good way and the colors were perfect. The fatal flaw for me was that it was too tight around the area of the foot where it bends (above the ball of the foot). I tried lacing the shoe in 10 different ways, but it didn't help enough. I really wanted to make this shoe work because it is hard to find attractive, EE shoes.

Love New Balance & have worn 840v3 thru several pairs but the v4 just didn’t fit. Seemed like the toe box or the arch was too tight even after loosening the laces repeatedly. I’ve found a pair of v3 and ordered them but hope the v4 was just an anomaly

This has a nice deep and wide toe box and narrow heel which are requirements for me. Unfortunately something at the bottom of the tongue or in that area was pushing down on my foot and big toe that I am going to have to look for something else. I don’t love such a high heel to toe drop , prefer a 10 or 8mm so hopefully I can find something else orthotic friendly and not be desperate enough to reorder these.

I typically wear a size 5-1/2 2E running shoe in New Balance and Brooks. Right side fits comfortably so going up a half size will most likely be too big. Left toe hits top of shoe. There is adequate space to the front of the shoe. Arch support with included insoles are less than adequate for me. I use the New Balance stability insoles IAS3720 in all my running shoes, which provide good arch support.

They do not accommodate orthotics

I was disappointed in these. New Balance usually has great support for wide widths. In this sneaker the sole/base felt correct, but the upper was not wide enough. Either the sides or the tongue did not have enough coverage to overlap, resulting in visible sock lines on the upper part of the sneaker. Too bad since these are much more stylish/interesting color than my usual hohum white sneakers.

I have the same shoe in a different color and love them. This shoe is so short my toe actually hits the end of the shoe. I checked to make sure they were my size and a mistake had not been made. I have to return them. Hope I can get them in a large size that fits.

The toe box is tight.

I'm surprised no reviews mentioned the laces. My shoes arrived with traditional laces attached in a separate plastic bag. The shoes themselves were 'laced' with what I thought was just 'string' for shipping purposes. Now that I go back and look, the still image of the shoe shows this elastic lace. The video, however, shows a traditional lace. Unfortunately, I stupidly snipped off one end of the elastic lace to remove it so I could put in the 'real' traditional lace. Big mistake. For me, these shoes only work with the elastic lace (one of which I just ruined). The tongue of the shoe is noticeably short, and I could not open it up enough to get my foot in the shoe when it had normal laces. I feel stupid and irritated. I could have used a hint about the laces. :( In my defense, this is the second pair of 840v4 I've purchased, and the other pair that I received in JUNE, came with standard laces and I contend that the most recent pair definitely is a different style in spite of the same model number.

These are really cute, but my feet hurt like crazy after a couple hours in them. I normally wear NB 990s, but my size was sold out when I needed new shoes, so I tried these. They feel narrower, especially through the arch and the sole is not well cushioned. It also felt like the never really broke in to adjust to my feet, even though I wore them every day. I do not recommend them. My feet are really happy to be back in their 990s, but I do wish New Balance would bring some of the fun style features of the 840s to that line.

I have worn NB for years now. And I really wanted to like this one. It looks great on but the minute I stood up I felt my ankles turning in. I haven't had this issue with any other NB sneaker. This is definitely going back.

I experienced foot pain due to lack of support. I have chronic heel pain.Will be returning them.

Got these in the hopes they could replace my 1260s for running (I can't seem to find more of this shoe). I was wrong. out of the box they were lumpy and uncomfortable and felt a full size smaller than my 1260s of the same size. I'm returning them immediately and hoping I can find a good equivalent.
