Before ordering this boot I measured my calves and I needed at minimum 15 inches and the description said 15.5 circumference. So I figured this should fit. Either the warehouse where this order emanated from grabbed the normal width and not what I ordered, the boot manufacturer can't measure, or I can't measure. This was NOT an extended calf boot. Very disappointed. The style is beautiful and it's clear the craftsmanship of this boot is high, but it just did not fit.

Can't tell if they're nice or not because they are SO BIG. I bought my normal size, an 8.5, and was absolutely swimming in them. I would need at least a full size down, so they are going back.

I just got these today and they are huge! I ordered my normal size and they are way too big. I'll try again probably a whole size down and will see how that works.

These are beautiful boots but I couldn't get my foot into them due to my high instep - do not recommend for those with this issue.

Maybe I'm just not a tall boot kind of person. I have small calves and these fit really well. Not too big, not to small. True to size. I am a 7 in almost everything. The 7 in these fit great. I felt like the boot looked lumpy at the ankles....maybe I'm just too short(5'3) for tall boots, but these just made me look frumpy. The lack of any kind of traction or grip on the soles was also off putting. Even though they fit, they were nothing to write home about as far as comfort goes. It sort of just felt like I was wearing floppy rain boots. Maybe I have too many expensive boot expectations, but I never could bring myself to wear them so I ultimately opted to return them.

I really wanted these boots to fit. I love the look and smell of Frye boots. I even read the reviews to try and order the best fit. I measured my calf at it's largest spot with jeans on since this has seemed to be a concern..I am 14.5 inches with jeans on. I couldn't even get my foot half way into the boot between it not going over my calf and my heel not sliding in. So frustrating..i didn't order the extended calf model because it said these would accommodate up to 15-15.5 inch calves.sent them back for a refund, which is the great feature of zappos when things just don't work out!!

I should have considered that being short would make these boots difficult to wear. I am 5'1 and if I had gotten the boots on, they would have been as high as my knee making me unable to bend my knee for walking.

I wanted to post this since I have had these for a few years now. These boots stretch- A LOT, and they continue to do so over time. They are beautiful and comfortable right out of the box, but I wore through the first sole in about a year. I had them resoled. The leather had continued to stretch. The heel isn't snug at all, and due to the sliding around in these by foot bruises on the top when I wear them. I bought Frye boots with the expectation of workmanship that would LAST for years. Sadly, I really haven't found that to be the case. They were amazing for a year or two, but I can't afford to make this kind of purchase every year. I can wear them for short periods of time or if I am not doing much walking, but I am afraid these just arent as comfortable as they used to be.

I bought the regular and the extended to try. The shaft was tight in the regular boot (I don't have wide calves). The shaft was good in the extended, but there was more space in the heel such that my heel was lifting a lot more than in the regular boot. The width felt good, even with my bunion. Had to return the extended and am contemplating whether to keep the regular one or not.

Unfortunately, I had to return these boots. I could not get them on! Having owned countless boots of various styles, I can't recall ever having a problem with my instep or arch. But, not being able to actually get my foot into this boot, I can't give a full review. That being said, these boots are beautiful! The leather is stunning, the styling is classic, and the interior is just as beautiful -- a soft leather. No man made parts on these beauties!

Beautiful boots but VERY narrow through the calf and ankle. Had to return them.

These boots are beautiful but I think it is ridiculous that this is what frye considers "wide calf". My calves are right around 15.5 in so I figured I would give these boots a try. I could get them on but the way the boots cuts in at the top hit me right at the widest part of my calf. It is a poor design choice for a wide calf boots. Overall, I really like the style of the boot, I just wished they had made a better design choice and had them go straight up rather than cut in. Then they would have been perfect.

The ankle was so narrow that I couldn't even get my feet into them. Beautiful leather boots but what good is that if I can't get them on my feet? Returned!

Beautiful boot but too tight on leg. If you only want to wear it with dresses it's fine, but it will not fit over skinny jeans. Not even sure they would work with leggings.

Frye is not what it used to be... Have had the original Melissa Button Boots for 10+ years and the leather is twice as thick all around. Comfort level was amazing straight away, you could see and feel the quality of the originals. These Melissa Button 2's however, are sloppily made. You can see glue all around the sole, the leather has marks all over (and not in a cute "worn" way, but blemishes in the leather), and they are SO uncomfortable. I am so disappointed.

I wish this boot worked out because I love the look of it. While I was able to squeeze my foot into the shoe without a sock, I could not get past the ankle with socks on. Sadly, they have to go back. Without socks, the extended calf fit perfectly! I am a 6.5 wide and the 6.5 fit fine.

I initially ordered the cognac and liked the way the boot fit but the leather was too distressed for my liking so I ordered the same size in the color Redwood. I could not get the boot on my foot due to a high instep and the cut of the boot. Was confused at such a difference in the fit of the two colors and very disappointed.

Not impressed for the price. Will return ASAP.

I cannot answer the questions about comfort and fit because I couldn't even get the boots on my foot. I have a relatively high arch but usually don't have trouble getting boots to fit.

Confused by these boots..I have Frye Melissa Extended and they slip on and off like a dream. I have worn them frequently for years and they are so comfortable and stylish. Thought these Melissa 2 Extended in black would be a bit dressier yet still casual staple for my closet. Calf width was perfect for me, right foot slid in with no issues. Left foot (my smaller foot) I could not get in the boot to save my life. I seriously gave it everything I had and my ankle and heel would not go in. I am going to return the original pair and have a new one sent just in case it was an off boot, however seeing the other review I do not have much hope:(

Lovely boot but I was annoyed that it has no tread, at all. I was slipping around on my wood floor at home. Then I was really mad to discover that the treadless bottom of these boots was leaving a trail of black shoe polish-looking stuff all over my carpets, all over my house before I realized where it was coming from. Thankfully it came up, but it definitely turned me off to the boots.
