MUCH narrower than the Clifton 3. I don't like the narrow toe box. That seems like it is against what Hoka is about!! Even a half size larger felt cramped in the toe box. I have found a Clifton 3 so I will go back to that one which fits so well!!
I'd also recommend:
nothing quite like Hoka!

They look nice, but the arch is too high and it makes the shoe very uncomfortable. It doesn't have the cushion, which I need because of Planters Fasciitis. They do not compare to the Clifton 3 which are very comfortable.

I have plantar fasciitis in one foot, and these type of shoes used to be the answer. I used to be able to wear them without additional inserts because of comfort and the support older versions of this shoe provided. I'm very disappointed as I've never had this problem with Hokas before. If you're looking for comfort and support, I'd advise an older version of this shoe, or a different one altogether.

Please bring back the design of the Clifton 3. The 4s are touted as being a smoother ride, but I find the ride to be much stiffer. I think about my feet while running in the 4s, which is never did in the 3s, and my IT band pain is returning.

I loved my Clifton 3's. The 4's just don't fit right and I'm starting to get knee and ankle pain that I never had with the 3's. Also, I have to stop several times in a workout to re-tie them for some reason and that was never an issue with the 3. Please bring back the 3 or I'm going to have to find a new shoe and soon!

Definitely wish they would bring back the Clifton 3 feel with the colors of the Clifton 4.

Shoe size wasn't accurate. Had to return. Ran too small. Would recommend just getting half size larger than normal shoe..

The arches are too high. Seems like a small problem but it's throwing my whole body out of whack. Hip, ankle and knee pain where I had none before. These are going back and I'm looking to buy another pair of Clifton 3's until the next model is improved.

I previously owned the Clifton 1 and 2 and like both models. I did not like the Clifton 3 and the Clifton 4 is a disappointment too. The toe box is shallow and narrow. The midsole is narrow. The skin rubbed off the top of my toes and my toes felt numb after an hour of running. The mid sole made the outside of my foot feel cramped and ache. When I was finished with the run; it took awhile for the ache to go away. I only have 120 miles on the shoe but am looking for another brand. The only HOKA that works for me now is the HOKA Challenger ATR 3 for trails. I have not tried the ATR 4 model. I have been wearing HOKA for many years starting with the Stinson tarmac and Stinson trek. I have to say the quality and wearability of the shoes have declined the past 3 years.

Hoka what happened??? Why change such a good thing? The 2's and especially the 3's were amazing and these are completely different! My first run in them was okay, but I just thought that was because it was the first run. The second run was much more uncomfortable and walking around in them for about 20 minutes afterwards was literally painful. There's something really weird and extremely uncomfortable with the arch. These are also much stiffer than the older models. I switched to these b/c they were so lightweight, yet extremely plush and cushioned....the 4's are not at all. They feel like normal light weight running shoes. Very disappointed! Bring back the 3's!!

I am new to the Clifton shoe. Purchased the Clifton 2 a while back and wore them out. Wanted to upgrade but couldn't find the Clifton 3 in my size any where so I settled on buying the latest and greatest Clifton 4.The nice soft feel of the Clifton 2 was gone as the 4s seemed less cushiony. I couldn't run as far (less rebound) and my feet actually hurt when running. It seems like the overall quality changed so I wouldn't buy this shoe again. Just recently I found the Clifton 3 so I'm trying that one.

I really wanted to like these since I run 40 plus miles a week and my knee has been bothering me. Just could not get used to the wide pontoon-like feel of these - they also gave me a blister on my arch. Zappos is great though and I did find my match in some ASICS nimbus.

No where near as amazing as the 3's. These are unresponsive, stiff, and have less cushioning.

Not for me. Feels like you are running on two pontoons and I got a blister on my arch :( going back. Thanks though Zappos for letting me try them.

I sent my Clifton 4s back. They were not comfortable. The innner sole felt lopsided and had pressure points on the bottom of my feet. The heel seemed to be lower on one foot versus the other. The nice soft feel of the Clifton 3s were gone and the 4s seemed less cushiony. It just seems like the quality has gone downhill. I ordered another pair of Clifton 3s and sent the Clifton 4s back.

I ran in college and have progressed on as a sub-elite athlete in longer distances. The Clifton was a god-sent when I developed patellar tendinitis in both knees a few years back. Nothing else worked but these were like magic. Unfortunately the tendinitis immediately came back after a couple runs in the 4 :( They're much harder and do nothing for me. I considered giving up running this summer since I was back to hurting all the time. I nearly cried when I saw the 3 available on the website again. I'm the crazy lady that bought five pairs. Thanks for the great shoe and please keep making them!

I do intense bootcamps that require supportive shoes to protect my shins and knees. I thought these were very comfortable at first, but my feet began to hurt right after the start of the workout and the pain lingered throughout the entire workout.

I loved the Clifton 3! But this Clifton 4 is terrible at first i thought well maybe I just need to take out for a run. Then I could not even finish my run. The roe area feels tight and it feels like the sole of the shoe is not a good base as my feet hurt so bed the next day like I had pulled muscles. You keep saying you are going to be making wide size but I only see it in the Bondi

I run about 40 miles a week and have gone through 3 pairs of Clifton 3s. I was really disappointed in the Clifton 4s, at first I loved the new look and the lightweight feel but the foot bed felt completely different. It felt like there was a small bump in the bottom of my arch. I tried a couple easy runs thinking I needed to break it in but it just didn't feel right. I returned these and switched to the Bondi 5. Please bring back the Clifton 3!

When slipping on these shoes, the softer shell is much appreciated. However, I could not run a quarter of a mile in these shoes without shin splints (not normal) and feeling like my feet were sliding all over. I must admit I'm considering looking beyond Hoka One One to a brand that isn't prone to removing styles so frequently. It makes it very hard to train for long races when the style hasn't been around that long and it's discontinued and replaced with something significantly different.

I was initially excited to open the box containing my new Clifton's. I had worn my original ones out because they were still so comfortable. I was so disappointed. The shoe is much narrower than the original Clifton, so I can't lace it up as well as before. The tongue is padded (like all the other shoes on the market) - I don't know why a tongue needs to be padded, as far as I'm concerned, it takes up width which for me is important. The new Clifton's are not as cushioned, it used to feel like I was running on a cloud, now I feel like I'm running in any other shoe. I'm so very disappointed that Hoka One One is going mainstream. The brand and the shoe were unique and fabulous. If you look at the other comments from previous Clifton wearers, you will see the same sentiment. This may have been my last pair.

I have had Clifton 1,2 & 3. The 4's are not as comfortable and literally make my forefoot and toes hurt. Not sure what to do now. All 3's are gone!

I have owned a dozen hokas over the years. Cliftons usually reliable. However, this years version gave me blisters between the balls of my feet and arches. I would have thought this was something to do with me except I got blisters in the same weird spot with last year's Claytons. I really wanted to like these, and I loved the red color, but I have to send them back.

I was so excited to get my shoes and I was sadly disappointed. The cushioning was great a matter of fact exactly what I was looking for but the arch to high. Also your return policy is a bit confusing. It's advertised to take them for as many runs as you like in 30 days and if you are not happy return them. Now reading the return policy more closely on line made me not wear them outside at all and only in my home. I was just really hoping these shoes would be it and they weren't and the return policy was confusing.

I have used model 1,2 and 3 of the Clifton's. Loved all of them. As soon as I put on the Clifton 4's, I did not like them. They did not feel like the marshmallows that I love to run in. I did not even run in them as I knew that it was not a good fit. The toe box is smaller, the cushion is gone that I loved. I bought 5 pairs of Clifton 3's so I will be set until they fix the Clifton's again. It seems that they are looking to hit another group of ppl to buy them and now they are losing the customers that loved them. I do not even know where to turn but thankfully I have time with my 5 pairs that I bought. Please bring back the cushiness and the wider toe box. My feet in the 4's felt squished. Bad, bad, bad. I too have had problems with plantar fasciitis and the Clifton1,2,3's were awesome for that.
