This is my second pair of Hoka's. I had Clifton 3 the last time and found Clifton 4 to not be as soft and slightly stiffer than the 3. I stilll really like it but prefer the 3.

I am a healthy, active female in my 70's. I ran for 24 years in Asics, but after a knee replacement, tibial tendon injury and back injuries, on the advice of our 2 sons who are endurance athletes in their 50's, switched to Hokas for the additional cushioning. They are both running again in Hokas. The Clifton 3 was great. The Clifton 4 has no support, even with orthodics, and feels heavy and awkward I am trying the Arahi, which is lighter, narrower and has support.

This shoe is good but sadly, is narrower than Clifton 3. It looks great but is more firm, less cushy. Could be trouble for runners with a slightly wider forefoot. I didn't know there was a wide option until after purchasing. I didn't need wide in Clifton 3. Regret not getting wide in these or buying lots of extra Clifton 3s. Maybe ok for short runs but the forefoot pinching pain would be too much, a show stopper, for longer runs. I don't dare risk it. Great shoe for those with narrow feet though.

Nice cushion for such a light shoe; love wider toebox; feels odd at the instep like the border of the heel and arch slightly off. Also I would prefer slightly more arch support for a medium high arch. All in all a nice shoe; will see how the sole holds up??!

Love the style of the Clifton 4 and the neutral support provided that lends for a comfortable run/walk. That being said, found the frontal part and toe box of this shoe to run a bit on the narrow side.

I tried many types of Hokas and landed on these. I walk vs. run and found this one to be the best lightweight, but cushioned shoe. The Bondi and Aarahi just rolled too much for walking.

I bought these shoes because my feet hurt all the time. They did help my feet hurting but did fall apart and get holes really fast I had them maybe 5 months before they got their first hole.

I was replacing my old Cliftons with this pair but the Clifton 4 felt different and not as cushioning. I really love Hokas but may have to go to Bondis instead.

If you're looking for a wide toe box, the Clifton 4 is not a good choice. I have bunions and toe numbness with most running shoes. I'm not a runner but I walk long distances on dirt roads, trails and blacktop. After research I tried several different models of Altras. All my forefoot problems went away with Altras but the zero drop caused severe knee and hip problems. Research suggested that Hoka One One's have roomy toe boxes without the zero drop. So I chose the Clifton 4. I read some reviews that said the toe box was too narrow. I considered that and ordered wide width. I wore my new Clifton 4's today on a 5.5 mile walk. Afterward my bunions were sore and toes were numb. The toe box is definitely not roomy. They also felt very heavy. I can't imagine running in them. I wish somebody would make a shoe with a square toe box that isn't zero drop!

I wanted to love these shoes! I’m a heavier runner and was excited to try the cushion and the meta-rocker. The fit was excellent as far as width and length, true to size. But my heels had some slippage even with lacing to prevent it. I had to tie the shoes so tight it was uncomfortable. Although the cushion was unlike any other shoe I’ve ever worn, the rocker just wasn’t for me. It caused me to supinate more than I already do, resulting in foot pain, knee pain, and hip pain. Sadly, I had to rerun them. Kudos to Zappos for lightning fast shipping and excellent customer service, as always.

I have a LOT of shoes and read many reviews before purchasing the Clifton 4. The shoe was very cushioned but was very stiff. I wear a 9.5 in regular shoes and bought the 10 in these which was good. However, this shoe was so clunky in this size I had to return it. I put it next to my Brooks, also a 10 and the Clifton looked twice the size. Wanted to like it but way to much shoe for me.

It's a good shoe and provides stability, support, lightweight, and agile, although it's not the most fashionable. It also run really big, so size down if you're between sizes.

These are very nice shoes but not for me. The arch part inside the shoes felt very high and weird and uncomfortable. It felt like my arches were rubbing on top of a tennis ball and my feet were sliding to the outer edge of the shoes because of it. Hope that make sense. Back again searching for that perfect fit shoes. Thank you Zappos for your easy return policy.

I really wanted to like these shoes! The cushioning is really great, but the heel to toe drop is very little and if you are not used to this, its an adjustment for your back and/or knees [at least for me]. After walking in them a few days, my back is killing me to the point that I fear I may really injure my back if I keep wearing them. The toe box could be a little wider, especially for a shoe that is billed as a 'wide toe box' shoe. However, the cushioning is really fabulour and that's what I was looking for. Unfortunately, I will be returning them. I wish Hoka could make a shoe with a regular drop from heel to toe, like Nike. Nike has the right drop for me, but not enough cushioning.

My usual size was too large and the 1/2 size smaller felt a bit small. They are great shoes they just didn't quite work for my 6 1/2 size foot!

Hoka has changed the width of the toe box and unfortunately they feel too snug. Wish they would go back to their Clifton 3 model.

About two years ago I bought its predecessor Hoka One One Clifton 3 (medium width). It was a great shoe, so I ordered Hoka One One Clifton 4 (medium width as well). However, the Clifton 4 ran markedly narrower and slightly smaller than its predecessor Clifton 3 Needless to say, I had t return the Clifton 4. Lesson learned: Depending on the manufacturer, neither the size nor width for the shore are carved in stone from year to year..

My wife has run in the Clifton 3 and loved them. Naturally she went to the Clifton 4 but the arches don't fit the same as the 3's. So much so that we returned them to try the 5's.

Hoka, I know I am not the only one complaining about the redesign of the Clifton 3, now the Clifton 4. The sneakers are much more narrow and way less cushy than the Clifton 3. My feet are medium width, not wide, and have no room for lateral movement at all. In fact, the shoes feel like they are constricting my feet. Putting the Clifton 4 (left in photos) side by side with the Clifton 3 (right in the photos) you can see that the sole has been shaved down all the way around, resulting in a much flatter ride like you would find in a regular running shoe. HOKAS used to be a superior ride, like walking on clouds--NOT regular! I WANT the CUSHY back, HOKA! A major disappointment.

I ordered these in wide width, but they were not much wider than a medium width in most other shoes.

These were disappointing for me. I was expecting a phenomenal shoe and I really wasn’t impressed after reading all the raving reviews. Other than cushion under my arches, I didn’t find this shoe very supportive for running. I expect a great running shoe to hug my foot like a comfortable glove, have great overall support, and great cushioning. I felt the cushioning, but I didn’t feel much support for my foot overall. I wore them once and will be returning them. I feel more support and cushion with Saucony and ASICS.

The shoe is very long. See attached picture - all shoes are size 7. The Hoka's feel a bit like clown shoes. They are supposed to be neutral but they feel like they have a bit of a lift on the inside of the heel pushing my foot to the outside. Since I naturally run more on the outside of my foot the feeling was exaggerated in these shoes. I bought them for the cushioning which is good, but I wouldn't buy them again.

I've heard wonders about HOKA's so I ordered this pair for my 3-4 mile walks, they do feel very comfortable when you first put on, but after using twice, they don't feel any more comfortable than any other shoe. Maybe I need a style with more cushion and more support.

After reading so many great reviews for this running shoe, I went ahead and ordered the Clifton 4. Unfortunately, this sneaker has too much arch support for me which caused me to have a lot of discomfort. Sadly, I am returning them and will stick with my Asics...
