This would have been my 4th pair of Hokas but because toe box felt a bit too narrow I returned them. I have a neuroma that is quite painful in some shoes. The color wasn’t too appealing either.

I want to call them "duck shoes" because they quack when I walk in them. I have two pair, and the black is louder than the aqua pair. That said, they have a rigid sole that helps prevent my moving an arthritic joint. With orthotics I can't comment on the insole that comes with the shoe. The toe box is roomy. This version is superior to the predecessor in that the tongue is longer and does not get in the way of unlacing the shoe when the top-most eyelet is used. Altogether a wonderful shoe. Hope the next version is just as good, and maybe a little quieter.

I found this pair to be narrower than my previous pair of Hoka shoes, which is a problem if you need a wide toe box. I had to go a half size larger than usual. They are very comfortable, though, and great if you need a rocker sole.

Love the look. I've been wearing medium width New Balance walking shoes for years, and had trouble finding comfort in the Hokas. The sales person convinced me to try 8.5 wide, and it fits perfectly. I use my own orthotics, as I've found only one brand of shoes which has adequate support for my high arches. These are not as cushioned as I'd like, and I'd prefer a bit more heel height, but overall I'm glad I found them.
I'd also recommend:

These were recommended to me at a footwear store that caters to those with "problem feet." I have small feet that are in between sizes, and also have high arches, narrow heels, plantar fasciitis in one foot, hallux limitus in the other, and even a small bunion. I'm not a runner, but these are great for lighter workouts, everyday wear, and commuting. They are super comfortable. I even got caught in a Noah's Ark-type rainstorm and they dried off, good as new, by the next day. The "rolling" under the toe area make walking smoother and takes some pressure off. This style is sleeker than some other Hokas, too. With that said, I normally wear a 5.5 medium in athletics shoes, but in these I was sold a 6 wide plus the salesman added extra pads under the insole and tongue cushions, all to hold my feet in. FWIW, I think the salesman really wanted to make the sale, so he made these fit. I think for my next pair I will try a 5.5 wide, since the width does seem good for me.

Despite the reviews of this being a little all over the place, I decided to order. I picked this sneaker because I was suffering from the worst case of plantar fasciitis I’ve ever had and tend to underpronate and twist my left ankle. I typically wear a size 9.5 and that is what worked for me with these. I was also worried these would be very clunky based on reviews. While they do have a solid base, I don’t think they are cumbersome and I like the style (particularly the colors I picked). Some reviewers complained of a tight toe bed. I disagree. I have what I would describe as typically normal medium width and I think the toe bed is awesome. I’ve given up on many sneakers in the past because my toes tend to get numb if they don’t have enough room. Not an issue with these. I’ve been wearing them for two full days. My PF had subsided a bit before I put these on but was still at about a 6 out of 10 on the discomfort scale (and was inhibiting walking). After putting these on, the first thing I noticed was the excellent cushioning. I’ve pretty much worn them for 2 full days to test them out. My PF has subsided almost completely. I have residual soreness, about a 1 out of 10 but I have no reason to believe that it won’t be completely better in another day or two if I keep wearing these. Was able to go for a very long walk today and, 12 hours later, these are still on my feet, my PF is not bothering me and my feet aren’t screaming at me to take these off. As far as arch support, it isn’t dramatically noticeable to me as some reviewers had complained of but my arches aren’t dramatically low or high. Since I have no pain after 2 days, for me the arch support seems perfect. A month ago I was in a walking boot and icing my foot...these sneakers appear to be the answer to my problems. I’m very pleased. Only reason I did not give 5 stars is that I’ve only worn them for 2 days and feel I should have a better idea of how the results hold up before doing so. If you aren’t sure based on reviews, I say give them a try. With Zappos’ easy returns, you can’t go wrong.

Not as cushy as previous Hokas but comfy and fit well. Got wide shoes due to a bunion. Good work shoes but miss the extra cushioning that previous Hokas had.

They felt good when I started out, but by mile one, they started to pinch in the toe area. I ordered wide width, but the toe box is not wide enough for me. The issue may be that these shoes are not flexible. They are very stiff. I will go back to Under Armoru or Nike; they have worked well for me.

These shoes are super cushy - but there was one drawback on the fit for me. I have low arches, flatter feet. This shoe is made more for high arches. I got blisters on my arches after my first run. Since I already committed to the shoes and could not return, I wanted to find a work around. I apply moleskin tape to the inside arch of my feet, and no more blistering! Once I did that, these shoes became the most comfortable running shoes! Because of my flat feet, I tend to come down pretty hard on my heels. That usually leads to knee, ankle and foot pain. I have no pain with these shoes on!

This is my third pair of Clifton’s. My doctor recommended Hoka for my arthritic feet and I wear them practically all the time. I have three different colors so I can coordinate my outfits. I am 86 so being the old lady in tennis shoes isn’t an insult. I’m just comfortable.

These are a good choice for a runner with a neutral gait for long runs. These are my go to shoes for my long runs during marathon training. I’ve even raced in them but there are less bulky options for that. My foot is slightly wide so I go up a half size in these for comfort. They hold up fairly well and provide soft cushioning for those high mileage weeks.

I wanted to like the shoes, and was a bit hesitant about the style but once I saw them they were fine. My only problem is that they squeaked when I walked. The same thing started with my Hokas I currently have that is why I am in the market for a new pair. If not for the squeaking, I would have kept them. It might be the combination of my orthopedic and the shoes, but they haven’t done that with others.

They were very comfortable, but being a running shoe, I had to return them. They really screwed up my knees which are bone on bone. I will try the walking shoes.

I have issues with my feet and planning on surgery. These shoes were recommended by the surgeon, however because of the issues with the top of my foot, I was unable to walk in them. I have returned the shoes. I wish they had worked, as I have heard many good things about the shoes.

When I say it felt a half size large, i actually mean I was able to wear my normal shoe size of 8 instead of the 8 1/2 I normally wear in running shoes. The cushion on these is so superior that I almost kept them AND the Asics Nimbus 20s I ordered, but I couldn’t shake the feeling they were pressing on the outside of my right foot, up near my toes. I have really narrow feet so this surprised me. Ultimately I decided if I were to have two pairs, I should just get a duplicate pair of the Asics.

I bought these shoes to train for my 8th half marathon and I put in about 100miles one month. I had no problem w the fit or the support around the Achilles/back of ankle. However I didn’t really “feel” it overall and stopped using them. Great show for my 12yr old daughter-she’ll use them for the school year!

I like these shoes - But I think they are narrower than the no longer made Clifton 3's. So I returned my initial order and ordered the Wide and they fit me. So glad Zappos has a great return policy! In general, Hoka One One's are the only shoe I will run with (and walk). I used to have pain just walking around the mall. Now I can run for 7 miles and my feet feel good. Have not yet tried a long distance run with these sneakers - more just 30-minutes on the treadmill. The prior version Clifton 3s were the ones I ran 7 + miles with no issues. So with these, I'd say they are not as good as Clifton 3s, but if you need to replace your worn out sneakers than get these. They are supportive and better than any other sneaker I have found (except their predecessor). Hoping the Clifton 5's are even better.

I'm pondering whether to keep these or not. I ordered two other black sneakers to try out. Altras. I need to order a 1/2 size up in Hoka sneakers (8 instead of 7 1/2). I have alot of hardware in my leg and I have low grade pain and discomfort all the time. So alot of cushioning is essential for me. I love the Bondi 5 and use this for gym work outs as it is such cushioning and I need that desperately. And the company is discontinuing Bondi 5. I am trying out some Hokas to use just for walking around in order to protect my leg. This shoe is not really plush enough for me for gym workout and maybe not even for just walking around, I've tried several other Hokas and non are better than Bondi 5 for me. Another good one for me is their hiking boot, very plush, so I kept those. Wishing for more plush shoe from Hoka. I'll see how the Altras do then see which to keep.

This is my second pair of Hoka One One’s. I like the Clifton 4 so far...I have very narrow feet and I’m having a bit of a time breaking them in. Fortunately there is a 30 day return policy for issues such as overly narrow etc. I’m hoping after a few more runs I will be pleased with the overall fit!
