So far I like the shoes. I need to do some serious hiking to truly make a judgment. However, the fit is perfect with plenty of room in the toe box, plus it has wonderful support.
I would like to have the option of a more subtle color to add a little class.

Probably the 10th pair of Hoka running shoes and this may be my favorite. I'm 6' 192lbs 51 years old. Hoka helped me get back to running three years ago. I went from Stinson's to the Challenger and now the Speedboat2 may be the best shoes yet. Speedgoat1 is a very nimble shoe but it didn't work for me on downhill trail runs and I blistered my pinky toe as others have noted. SG2 is a little more substantial but still feels nimble and has that signature Hoka cushion. I found the Stinson's were too soft for really long runs. I ran a Marathon in the Challengers and they just right. I am hoping the SG2's can do long mileage as well but maybe give perform a little more like a racing shoe. The lacing system seems to be superior for keeping my foot from sliding forward on downhill trails--that is a huge plus! I also like the Vibram sole which feels like a nice upgrade and they give better traction. I have a bad sesamoid bone and the cushion helps manage that issue. I typically don't get 100's of miles out of my Hoka's as the cushion compresses fairly quickly but I'll take that as the shoe just works for me. I think there are other models with more rigid foam if compression is an issue for you and you would like to get more mileage out of a single pair. Please don't change the foam! I'm excited to report back after 100 miles or some long runs and tell you how they are going.

I'm 51, 6' 192 pounds. This is my 2nd pair of Speedgoats. The last pair did not work well for trails as i blistered on my pinky toe--that has been fixed. SG2 feels a little beefier than SG1 but has retained a more nimble feel than other Hoka models like the Challenger. I started with Stinson, then Challengers for trail work and now I think the SG2 may be the best yet. I have only run 3 times in them and no longer than 4 miles so I will have to report back when I have put in more miles. I was impressed how the lace system when fully utilized to the top helped keep my foot from sliding and jamming my toe on descents. The cushioning is substantial. I have a sesamoid issue and these shoes seem to give me the cushion I need (as do most Hokas). I like the Vibram tread as it seems to give just an extra touch of grip. So excited that Hoka nailed this model. NOW DON'T CHANGE IT!

I'm very prone to rolling my ankles(usually to the outside) while running trails. I didn't think shoes existed that would help with my ankle stability, but these shoes have made a world of difference! I'm able to run trails with more confidence and move much faster. In instances where my foot lands a bit unevenly, the shoe seems to catch me and prevent my ankles from rolling. Overall, I'm very satisfied with the speedgoat 2s! Great grip, no blisters, didn't take any time to break in, they look pretty cool and feel great on my feet. I wore these for my first 25k trail race last weekend and loved them! Only con is that the toe box isn't quite wide enough for me, but I'm able to loosen the shoelaces to make up for it. If you are prone to rolling your ankles running trails, give these shoes a try!

Put them on as soon as they came and went for 2 mile run on road with gentle hill.
Snug fit, not uncomfortable for these two miles, material is soft.
Heel is beyond soft cushioned, so much so that only midfoot impact is felt irrespective of how much I wanted to step with heel first while running. This forced me to run faster, but this was not uncomfortable. When I tried to walk after the run, resuming running felt much more natural and easier than walking.
Big difference to the Bondi 4s I used until today. Feel soreness in different muscle groups than before, and cannot wait to take them for a longer run, 8 miles or more.

I love my speed goat2. I have been hiking every day since the day I bought them. They're the most comfortable shoes I have ever owned.

I do Tough Mudders and hike/ run a lot. These shoes combine the cushion I need with the support and traction of a trail shoe. Absolutely love then. As with other Hoka's buy them one size larger than you normally wear.

I'm a long distance walker/hiker in a suburban setting with some local hiking/walking trails. I like to walk to and from the trails, and these shoes are great for both road and trail. A bit snug, but that's not surprising for a trail runner. I do get some discomfort after a very long walk/hike from the snug midfoot, but that's above 10 miles only. And zero blisters which is a recurrent issue for me.

I have to credit Hoka One One and this shoe in particular for getting me back running again. I am 55 yo and have run all my life with breaks here and there. As the years have come along, the pains of running have increased along with a severe twisted ankle that sidelined me for 6 months. I tried to run again and I was having moderate ankle, knee, and foot pain and being very sore in the morning and in general. I am an avid stretcher and flexible, but my normal routine was not helping. Running just seemed to be too much, so I resorted to walking, which drove me crazy. I am in great shape and not THAT old, so it was frustrating I couldn't get past the pain. Finally, through researching shoes with high cushioning, I came across Hoka One One. Trial and error led me to this pair (many of the styles run narrow in the toe area and I AM NOT a wide foot) I am a neutral to underpronator. These shoes and their cushioning changed my life. I have no pain and within 3 weeks I was up to 3 miles. Amazing. Thank you for a great shoe!!! I highly recommend Hoka One One for the older crowd!!!!

I am in love with these sneakers. I just recently bought them for the upcoming cross country season. They provide a very comfortable cushion and even support throughtout the sneaker. The heel and the toes are balanced, one not higher than the other. They have a very nice "bounce" to them. I use these for my high school cross country team. I love distance running and these are perfect!! I have the orange/ plum colored sneakers and they are such fun running colors for woman! My feet can be sensitive as they cramp up if I do not buy a sneaker with enough cushion and comfort and I get pain throughout my feet, but I definantly do not feel any of the pain in these shoes! I really reccomend these shoes for cross country training and all around trail running! Happy running!!

At the suggestion of a friend (Chaz, RD of The Canyons), I bought these 2 weeks before the Tahoe Rim Trail 100, because they have better tread than the Challenger, which I've been running in since they came out. The TRT100 had snow sections this year, so I needed something that wouldn't slide like the Challenger. I tested the speedgoats only a few times before the 100, with the longest run being only 15 miles. I was slightly worried that I was taking a risk on a new shoe, but they held up beautifully for the entire race, so they have earned the ranking of my New Favorite Shoe. Anyone want to buy my collection of Challengers now?
PS: my only suggestion for improvement would be to add a gaitor trap on these babies (and on all your trail running shoes for that matter)

I run and hike in a state park about 3 to 4 times a week. I have been running for about 30 years and this is the first running shoe I've used that gives the support needed. I hike up a steep granite rock on my runs these days and this shoe has the Vibram needed to scale the rock without slipping. I've tried every other type of hiking boot/shoe and this one exceeds all others. For me personally, I have bunions and would like the shoe to be somewhat wider in the toe area but for the majority of folks the width would be fine. I am not a review writer but these shoes are so exceptional I had to express my opinion.

I am loving this improved version so far. I use the outside of my feet the most. The first version lost cushioning on the outsides after a few long runs. I haven't lost any cushioning in this new model and I've been using them for about a month.

This is an awesome trail shoe. The lugs are distinct and very grippy. The push off is very energetic - I feel like I'm flying! I bought a half size larger than I normally wear (street shoes) and they fit perfectly with a little room to spare in the toe.

Hoka One One are great shoes. There is so much about them that makes them so - I will let the delineation of these characteristic to those better suited to do so. That said, These shoes just don't work for me - after the Challenger ATR 2. I've tried Challenger ATr 3, Speedgoat 2 and Cliftons and I just can't make them work. I've tried various lacing techniques, different running form and sizing up - nothing works. I think the last type and narrowness - and perhaps the sole and heel design just don't work for my feet and/or running form. After 5 miles I get hotspots, pains and crunched feet, Again, these are great shoes but they just won't work for me.

I have only had them for 3 days now. However, even with the plantar fasciitis acting up, I was able to walk normal with these shoes on. The cushioning is amazing. And no pain from being new shoes. I love them. Wish they had the same shoe with a smooth sole to wear in my dance fitness classes. I love these so much I'll wear them for my classes anyway and see how it goes. I will update my review after some time using these. I can tell you they are way better than the Asics I have been wearing that have caused me unbearable pain. I am so glad I stumbled upon this company.

These are slightly stiffer ( at least brand new ) than some of my other Hoka's but I absolutely love the feel and performance of this shoe. They literally almost climb for you when pushing off of a rough surface. I even use them on the street during my evening jogs and they just feel like velcro on the cement....but still give the feeling of lightness and springiness....just perfect. The look may not be for everyone...but if you want to make a statement...this is the only way!

I am very pleased with the Speedgoat 2. Ordered these right before a 50k, did a short 3 mile run in them and then wore them for the race. The upper is super comfortable so no issues with hot spots or blister. The traction is great even in incredibly muddy conditions. Cushioning is great. I prefer these to the ATR 3, which I found to be fairly stiff. The Speedgoat 2s are just a good ride all around. I will definitely be wearing these for another 50k in August.

I have been running in a variety of Hokas over the last 4 years - mainly the Clifton's and Challenger's; and this is the best shoe I have ever run in period. The shoe fits me perfect(!!!!), and really holds your foot in place on technical terrain. The shoe also feels extremely stable and nimble- definitely more so than the challenger. The Speedgoat also feels more springy and less spongy then the Challengers, and the protection from sharp rocks seems to be better. Lastly, the Vibram outsole seems to grip and stick to everything! I think that the challenger outsole is pretty fantastic, but the Speedgoat takes it to a whole new level! Nothing bad to say about this shoe - just a perfect shoe from short to long trail runs, perfect for any type of trail running!

Just hiked Inca Trail to Machu pichu 43 terrible kilometers over steps and rocks. The shoes performed fantastic with great grip and cushion. My right foot has always hurt due to past fracture, I had very slight ache at the end of the day in that area. Previously I have used Merrill and I know I would not have made it in them. I did try hoka hiking shoes they were better than Merrill due to cushion but these were the most cushioned and lightest.
The disadvantage is that they are not water proof and are not true hiking shoes. there is a lot of wear in the back part of shoe on the sole in the soft area between the lugs. But they did as expected. I will definitely buy them again.
If anyone needs shoes for challenging situations and has foot pain, go with these shoes.
