Significant improvement from V1. Wider toe box (however still somewhat narrow for the wider footed peeps), and much improved uppers. Increased cushioning for a more comfortable ride on long runs. Threw down a 10 mile trail run right out of the box with these guys and experienced no hot spots or rubbing.

Use for all my trail running. The Vibram souls are great along with superb cushioning. Have actually thought of road running with them they feel so good.

This shoe is a huge improvement to the previous version. The toe box is wider and the cushioning more plush. The traction is grippy and I can downhill with confidence. Definitely would buy again.

I have been anxiously awaiting the arrival of the Speedgoat II's and placed my order immediately upon receiving the email that they were available. I have three pairs of the original Speedgoats which all have seen better days. I've logged about 40 miles on the II's and this is what I think so far....
Pros - The downhill traction and the super plush ride is even better than the original. The drainage is superb after creek crossings. Breathability is great even on the hottest days. Larger toe box gives the "piggies" the opportunity to move around and stay in a natural position.
Cons - Still a little snug across the top of the foot. I feel like they "ride" higher and feel "wider" than the original. On moderate terrain, this could be a plus. On more technical terrain, I worry about the possibility of rolling an ankle.

I am a road runner but bought these trail shoes because I wear out the tread on my road Hokas too fast and love the added traction. The speedgoat looks awesome in red and is fast and light. I have several Hoka running shoes that I alternate with because I run lots of miles every day but the Speedgoat is my favorite.

I ordered a pair before Desert RATS stage race and was impressed at the easy of the techical trail sections this shoe made a difference. Since coming home have been flying down trails with steep grade, loose rocks and dirt, and I just feel like I'm bending with the Earth. I just ordered my second pair today, because I'm not interested in my other Hoka trailshoes suddenly. I liked the first model, but this is up a whole new level as far as grip and assisting balance and agility!

I received these yesterday and ran in them first thing this morning. I'm extremely pleased in the same comfort I get as my first pair. I ordered the same size and they fit just right. I absolutely love them and I would not run in any other shoe than my hokas! My other pair lasted me 4 years and I hope these can last just as well !

These remind me of the older Hokas: big, thick soles that feel soft and supportive. Easy to break in and were ready on the first run. Highty recommend if you like super cushioned shoes.

I wore a pair of these new out of the box in my second ever 50k over rough terrain and 6000ft of vert and they were awesome!! The grip on the trail is better than any shoe I've worn thus far and I've tried many. Love the fit. The widened toe box is really a plus too.

Bought these shoes to do a race up Mount Washington. I normally wear the Bondi wides but was hesitant to buy these in fear that they might be too tight. Surprisingly, they fit really well. They have a plush ride and the vibram soles are very grippy. I have found them to be equally capable shoes on pavement, groomed trails and rugged terrain.

Love the shoe, great sole, great cushion, looks are great. I would still like a little more protection for my toes. That's just me. Over all great great shoes. I have to the yellow and the red.

First, I am not a runner but I do participate in fast packing. I live in the Sierra where we hike and run on anything from single track to: fire roads, dusty trails filled with granite and roots to large areas of granite scree. I have owned the Speedgoat 1 and used it all of last season. While I loved the shoe, I agree with other reviews that the shoe was narrow and had poor stability.
Not true with this edition!
I love the fit, comfort, ride and grip. Wonderful. I expect to get many miles out of this shoe. Thanks Hoka.

I put in anywhere from 50 to 100 miles a week. Got a pair of these shoes the day they came out, love them. I live in the High Sierra Alpine, so our trails have lots of granite, steep elevation gain, and wild hard knee pounding descents. For fast descents these shoes get a 10. For climbing and ascending, it depends. Awesome grip on rock, but when pushing off as you climb on some sandier dirt, they slide a little because of the rocker. Not a big deal. The only other thing that would be a plus would be to have a gusseted tongue. But to be honest, I do not notice too much debris getting in my shoes. I've run in snow, talus, sandy dirt, bushes, stream crossings, you name it. My favorite shoes so far. Not sure about some of the comments on size and fit, but I have a wide forefoot and these fit perfect with good toe movement. They do stretch slightly but are true to size out of the box. I had the ATR 3 for one week. The rubber on the soles of the shoe were peeling off so I returned them. The Speedgoat 2 shoe has much more durable Vibram rubber. Good Times. Fun running.

I typically wear an 11 but went with the 11.5 in the SG2. Cushioning feels a little more plush to me. I have a narrow(ish) foot and I still have toe splay room (I'd speculate this version is 3 or 4 mm wider in the toe box than version 1). Seems like an average foot would do great in this shoe, maybe those runners with more wide feet need to seek out altras ;) Too soon to speak of durability but the upper construction appears well thought out and executed, and breathability is sufficient. The insole is staying in place. The outer sole is sticky and awesome.

I have run in these less than 30 miles but thought I could offer some impressions on fit. I never tried the original Speed Goat, but have run extensively in the Challenger ATR 1 and more recently the ATR 3.
The fit of the SG 2 feels and looks narrower than the ATR 3 in the heel and mid foot. The forefoot feels similar, or maybe just a touch narrower in the SG 2. The toe shape is a bit pointier in the SG 2 than the more rounded shape of the ATR 3. The toe box height/volume seem similar. I am a size 12 in both.
I have a relatively narrow, low volume foot and the fit of the SG 2 is more precise and anatomical for me than the boxy fit of the ATR 2, but they both fit my foot fine. The description of the SG 2 mentions added width over the original SG, but this is by no means a wide shoe.
Comparing the SG 2 and ATR 3 sole to sole, its obvious the footprint of the SG 2 is a few mm narrower in width.
With less than 30 miles of trail and dirt road running in them so far, I'm reluctant to comment to much on their performance. But so far I'd characterize them as a more aggressive ATR 3 with a bit more cushion.

Like the Speedgoat 2, but pretty disappointed in the sizing. I had a size 9 Rapa Nui that fit so awesome, so got same size Speedgoat 2, but it's definitely smaller to point it's uncomfortable even with thinner socks.

Love these shoes, they have carried me from every distance on the trails from 22 mile races to 100k's, in the mountains, deserts, and snow covered valleys of the mountain west. I adore these shoes, they grip when you need them too. I have even done class five free climbing and mountain traverses in them, and they feel as secure as most approach shoes I have worn. They dry quickly when wet, and I have never had a blister in any of my many pairs....which brings me to the downside of the shoe. They wear way too quickly... within the last year I have gone through four pairs of these shoes. They have all failed on the sidewall during intense runs, and I have had three pairs which have had the rear treads and cushion completely separate from the shoe itself. I will add the caveat that each pair had about 500-600 miles on then, and most of the runs each pair went on were high alpine, super rocky, and and a mix of running/scrambling. However, I have had two of them fail during longer races, when no sidewall damage, or sole damage was visible prior to the race.
With all of that being said though, these shoes are my go to, and I always have two to three pairs on hand. I wont run, or race, in any other brand. These shoes are top notch and a must for avid trail runners. Just be prepared to maybe buy two and alternate between them to increase longevity.

Good fit, support, sizing. I run mountain trails and feel very secure I. These shoes. More stable than the road shoes, just enough cushion for sensitive feet.

Great trail shoe that has wonderful grip and good protection. Only complaint is that it feels a tad narrow. I ordered a half size up and the shoe fits well length-wise.
