Were comfortable right out of the box. Wore on a trip to Alaska in many different areas and they were very supportive, warm and comfortable. Easy to walk in on trails or just for a stroll on boardwalk.

From the box to the trail! No blistering! No breaking in needed!

Took them on their first hike in the Smokey Mountains on the Alum Cave trail, about 5 miles, and they were great. Super supportive, stable and comfortable. The trail was damp, but not wet enough to test their water resistance. I love them! My only complaint is the name of the color- Sedona Sage, (which implies to me something grayish- green). I wanted the cute color pictured, with the grayish blue and aqua trim, and when I saw the Sedona sage on my order I thought I'd mistakenly ordered the wrong color. They deserve a name more representative of the color.

Purchased these online as I wanted goretex waterproofing and could not find them in any of the stores in the area, only the regular waterproof shoes. These hikers are comfortable right out of the box, and while I haven't worn them in the rain yet, I feel more confident with the goretex version.

Love the great support and stability. Quality materials, beautiful colors. Have nice traction and the sole is nice and thick, I like it gives me a little extra height and I feel like it helps me correct my posture and stand up straight.

These shoes hike the beach 3 days a week. It might be high tide, low tide or between tides. They did great the other day on icy snow. My feet were warm and dry. Even on a very cold day I was smiling on my walk. I recommend these shoes.

Live these hiking shoes-my go to shoes for medium Hokies on largely flat land-I prefer mid height for elevation changes. I keep buying replacements when I wear them out, which takes a while!

I've worn these hiking in arid deserts, in the mountains and navigating Midwest ice storms. They perform well in each situation and show little sign of wear. I've added my own insoles for a bit more comfort, but overall a solid shoe that I trust in a variety of conditions.

Best ever all-around shoe ever! Walking, stepping, exploring, traveling. Great ankle and arch support, durable like all Merrills, with sturdy laces and connectors. I wear them with many choices of pant leg and colors above.

Wore them on an easy hike that was damp and had stream crossing in several areas. Flexability is great, fit was great with little sliding inside the shoe. Waterproofing worked. Have them in the nonwaterproof for summer. Would recommend.

Fits great, very comfy, built to last, feet stay nice and dry. I live in a small town where everything is within walking distance, and don't go off-road very often. Crosswise, the soles are flat for stability. Lengthwise, they're slightly curved so you get a good rolling motion going when you walk, and not walking flat-footed. Very happy.

I was able to wear my Merrell Moab 2 GTX right out of the box--completely comfortable. I usually wear a 7 Medium & go up 1/2 size for mountain hiking and backpacking boots. But I thought for hiking-trail shoes, my regular size would be fine--and it is. I live in a rural area with lots of forest/mountain trails, and I'm out walking with my dog almost daily. My feet stay perfectly dry in the Moab 2 GTX, and they offer sufficient structure & support without the added weight and time for breaking in (not that breaking in boots or shoes is a bad thing, but I didn't need to do this with the Moab 2 GTX. Plus they're attractive. Absolutely recommending them to other women I know who need a dry, comfortable hiking shoe with technical trail cred & support that's also stylish.

I returned the first pair and ordered the next 1/2 size up. I usually wear hiking/heavier socks with this type of shoe.

Absolutely fantastic shoe right out of the box. Accommodates my toe joints when arthritis is flaring. Waterproof and comfortable. A perfect balance of support and cushion. I tried five pair of day-hikers, and this is the winner by far. Thanks Zappos for letting me take the time to find the best shoes for me. This is why I'm a Zappos customer for life. : )

I just purchased these for my trip to Iceland and was nervous that I had not broken them in. I was super comfortable in my new hiking shoes through mud, rain and all terrains. I purchased an 8.5 and they were perfect for thick socks. I'm in between an 8-8.5

I love Merrell shoes for casual wear and for hiking. I always buy a Merrell 6 1/2 for hiking and these fit nicely. I haven’t yet had an opportunity to hike long distances, but they have been comfortable for casual walks. My favorite shoe was the Merrell Capra. Since I can no longer find it, I decided to try the Moab 2 and thus far have not been disappointed.
I'd also recommend:

Finally a shoe that is wide enough and has a big enough toe box. I didn't even need to get the wide size, and with some brands I do. These are very stable and supportive. The heel is a little wide, so I have to tie the shoes tightly, and that takes care of any slippage. They look a little boxy / wide from above, but from the side, where others will see them, the effect is much less. To me they don't look bad at all. They look like a normal hiking shoe.

Have always stuck with the Moab GORE-TEX for my go-to hiking shoe and these do not disappoint one bit. First time out and they fit perfectly without being too snug or having to break them in. Went through all those mud puddles without issues.
