The toe box on these was disproportionally narrow. Also, the left shoe seemed shorter than the right. It was odd. Finally -- why can't shoe makers offer just a plain black hiker for women? They have black in the men's version. If I wanted to wear pretty colors, I wouldn't be playing in the dirt.

I have always worn Merrill or Vasque waterproof hiking boots for moderate to extreme hiking & working conditions. I am 64 years old and hike in the Smokie Mountains and cultivate a garden in the back of our cabin in the mountains. The higher rise around the ankle gives good to great ankle support without feeling confining. The arch support is superior! I usually wear an 8.5 or 9.0 in a dress or casual shoe; however, I ordered these in a size 10.5 which fits well and gives me about 3/4" room to spare for my toes swelling. The last pair I got of these boots were a size 10 and I found that after wearing them for more than 6-8 hours-I needed more length to accommodate the swelling of my toes and feet (and no I do not have heart disease nor am I overweight) which is why I ordered these in a size 10.5. The padding inside these boots makes them very comfortable. When hiking or doing work cultivating a field-there is nothing like having a good fitting boot on your feet and these more than fill the bill. Thank you Merrill!

I ordered the Moab 2 Vent Mid as a second pair to the same Moab 2 waterproof Mid. The length is the same. I wear 9-9.5 in regular shoes and ordered these in a 10 reg to accommodate thick socks. The Vent pair is slightly wider without waterproof layer, but feels the same. Wear great right out of box. Have helped with calcium deposits on Achilles’ tendon by giving ankle more support and allowing less movement of my too flexible arch. Would recommend them highly!!!

I wanted these boots to work SO MUCH!!! They are beautiful, well made, but they are not true to size. My middle toe, which extends beyond my big toe, is totally pushing and being squished and hurt. "Get a half size up" you may say, well, I wear an 11. If I were a 7 or 8 etc., a half size up would be perfect!! But there IS NO 11.5 !! ARRGH. If shoe companies know people are going to wear socks, probably even hefty socks with their boots, why would they tend to run SMALL? Sending back--- sadness. Thanks Zappos for being patient with me whilst I try to find boots that fit this tall woman with size 11 !!! : )

Lovee these hiking boots! I bought them right before a roadtrip to go hiking in Zion, Arches, Canyonlands, and Grand Canyon. I was able to use them right out of the box! No need to break them in. I got them in an 8.5 and they felt slightly big. However, I wear thick wool socks with them and they seem to fit fine, are really comfortable, and protect my ankles and feet when hiking on all of the uneven and rocky trails. + Zappos customer service rocks! Highly recommend these hiking boots and purchasing from Zappos.

Love, love, love these boots. I got the Moab 2 Mid GTX & the Moab 2 Vents. Both fit exactly the same - very comfortable and light weight for hiking boots. I sized up 1/2 a size in both boots to accommodate good socks. Wore the Moab 2 Mid GTX on a rainy day hike the first day I got them. My feet felt great and stayed warm and dry. Perfect boot for mild winter days. The Merrell Moab 2 Vent boots are perfect for summer and warm weather hiking.

Love these! The wide width works with my bunions. They are a bit flexible and soooo comfy. Thank you Merrell!

These are a mid-support hiking boot with excellent traction. Having had an ankle injury and two subsequent surgeries, however, I may go for a higher boot with a little more support. This puts pressure on a scar-point, so for me, probably not the best choice. The color (sand) is perfect for summer wear, as DUST it what usually covers footwear at the end of a hike! The arch support feels great, but they squeak when I walk. (I get that a lot...Is it me???)

Comfortable right out of the box! I sized up one size thinking I needed the room and wound up having to return them for my actual size, so make sure you order them in your true size.

I need a wide toe box (my pinky toes usually get squished in most shoes) with a regular sized shoe. I ordered these in my regular size (7.5) and wide width. They were too short overall, and too tight around my toes. I wouldn't recommend them if you need extra toe space.

I recently had surgery on both feet and needed a wider width boot for hiking, but was afraid they would be clodhoppers or that they would be wide enough in the front but slip in the back. I needn't have worried. They are not clumsy looking/feeling, and the fit is perfect, wide enough in the toe box but snug around my ankle/heel and over the top of my foot. I've put 20 miles on them in 3 days and have had no issues with them slipping or rubbing anywhere. uncomfortably.

This is like my third pair. I hike daily in the desert sand. They are comfortable year round, hot or cold. Love them. Pretty light weight for a boot. Wear well. I do order a half size up from my normal 8 for comfort and to wear a thick sock. I hope they keep making these!!

I wore these today for the first time and was very happy. I ordered my normal size and they fit well. Hiked 5.2 miles in 85 degrees in Arizona on a trail with mild elevation changes and relatively uneven ground, and didn't have any blisters. I also had a good pair of semi-thick wool blend socks on, and it doesn't seem as if my feet swelled at all. I'd highly recommend these to anyone looking for a great pair of hiking boots right out of the box at an excellent price.

I wore my new Merrell hikers for the first time and they are really comfortable - no break in necessary. However, the grassy areas were wet and my feet were soaked after my 5 mile hike. The top I guess you would call "breathable" but that also lets moisture in. So lots of comfort and support, but not good for wet conditions.

Too stiff so I returned them.
Usually Merrells are instantly comfy but these were not comfy at all.

My first REAL pair of hiking boots and I am overjoyed !!!! Straight out of the box - two 6 hour hikes two days in a row and my feet felt GREAT !!! And I have some major bunion issues. So grateful for all the reviews and for my new Merrells ! Can't wait for my next adventure!

I normally wear a size 8 1/2, but listened to the reviews and ordered the 9 1/2. not only does it fit perfectly, but since the insole can be removed, I am able to put my orthotic inside. Even though the orthodic is for a size 8 1/2, it still fits perfectly in this hiking boot. This is my first pair of Merrill shoes. I am more than impressed!

Oh my! It is hard for me to find shoes that fit since I have a wide foot and some heel problems. These fit great and felt great right out of the box. Wore around the house several days and feel confident that they will be great on an upcoming trip which will include hiking. Did order up a half size and with socks they were perfect. Lots of room in the toe box as well!!

Nice looking boots but the arch hit me too close to the heel. It did not feel comfortable at all so I sent them back.

This is the third pair of Moab Ventilators I have ordered over the past 10 years. I love them! They are the most comfortable hiking boots I own. I order a half-size larger than my usual size to accommodate thick hiking socks and to prevent my toes from slamming into the toebox on a steep downhill. These boots work right out of the box - no break-in needed.

Whoa. Talk about comfort. Everyone told me I had to "break" a pair of hiking boots in before I went on my first hike. However, I put these on and they are more comfortable than any of the tennis shoes I wear. Best thing: No blisters! Amazing. Definitely sold me on the Merrell brand.

This pair was a replacement for an older pair that were starting to wear down. I'm always paranoid they will discontinue the model that works for me (flat feet, prescription orthotics, need W, damage from years of sexy heels, weak ankle from fracture, etc.). The new ones are still great, and lightweight compared to most boots of similar design. That's important because I wear them for everyday. I recommended them to my sister (different problems, plus Parkinson's balance issues) and they are working great for her as well. Thank heavens it's Merrell and not New Balance, or they would've been discontinued by now.

My wife has hard to fit feet. She loves the Merrell Moab mid-high.
She has a size 11.5 Moab Vent, and a size 11 Moab GTX (Gore-Tex),
So, the Vent fits true to size, while the GTX is a half-size small than expected.
Traction with the Moab sole is incredible!
