I've had my boots for about 18 months now. Whilst I find them very comfortable, I wouldn't classify them as waterproof. I only have to walk through wet grass and my feet are wet. I trekked Larapinta in these and Keens and would recommend the latter for a more sturdy sole giving greater protection against the very rough terrain.

For hiking boots they're good looking and moderately discreet, but they're nowhere near as comfortable as the merrell moab 2 mid vent that I got right before the pandemic when I was supposed to be travelling. Those are my favorite boots but not waterproof, so I was hoping these would fill that gap. But they're much harder and felt less supportive. If you don't have foot problems, these might be perfect for you, but I couldn't take them!

I wish I had tried this shoe on when I received it, by the time i did it was to late to return it. The tongue is to narrow and short for comfortable ware for long periods of time, it is not the same quality as my old pair.

I got a pair of these for Christmas. I love them! There are some things that aren't ideal. The toe area is somewhat narrow. If you have wider feet (but not wide enough for W) then at times they are slightly tight. The show laces are not long enough to double knot. Not a huge deal. The biggest thing was the bottoms. The first time I wore them I slid all over the place going into creeks. I fixed this by wearing them outside of the house several times and I would scuff them on the pavement here and there as I would walk. Worked perfectly. Next time I was in the creek with zero problems. All in all I love these hiking boots. Just take some heavy breaking in!

In October I bought the Moab 2 Mid Waterproof in tan and I just fell in love. Right out of the box it was like my feet were wrapped in angel digested unicorn farts. Pure Heaven. Whether on a leaf crusted dirt packed trail or the hard industrial tile in my local mall I was as silent as a nimbly bimbly wood sprite. One wasn't enough I had to buy a second pair! Yesterday I received the exact Moab 2 Mid Waterproof hikers in granite. From the same website, same item, same size, just a different color. It was like I had been dating Moab and everything was great until he invited me to his place for dinner where he served up Tuna Helper, Flavored Malt Beverage that he tried to pass off as wine, and he insisted on serenading me on his guitar with Dave Mathews Band songs but could never get beyond three cords. These granite boots are so stiff, it was as tho the tan were made from the hide of a newborn deer and these from the hide of a geriatric armadillo. Forget about my Ninja application! In these things I sound like an alligator with one foot in a bear trap trying to sneak across a blackboard. But the icing on the cake; the laces. I'm annoyed, but it's that kind of annoyed that makes you think the think that keeps you from sleeping. Why would Merrell use laces 8" shorter than what was used on the tan? Are they cutting corners? Are the proper length laces on a ship bobbing in the ocean and can't be unloaded? Why would they think stubby little laces, which would be insanely hard to tie with cold fingers, would be "ok" on a hiking boot? The return policy is stressful and, from prior experience, will take extra effort on my part that I really don't have time for.. but there just isn't enough Flavored Malt Beverage to justify keeping these. I will leave a 3 star review because I feel it's a fair average of one pair at 5 and the other at bleh.

Because other reviews said "true to size" I ordered my size, but they ended up being too small. Merrell has good arch support, but it didn't hit me in the right spot in this item.

Great shoes when new. Vibrant soles are superb but Merrell need to work out how to stop the soles dropping off after a couple of years. GTX waterproof great to start with, started letting in water after 6 months of walking gentle use. Luckily they were replaced under guarantee. On my third pair now.

I liked how these boots looked, but I wore them for a few hours and they felt too small, so I would say get a half size larger.

Super comfy, waterproof boot but the single eyelet at the ankle means you have to wear gaiters on sand and pebble unless you want to stop every 10 mins to empty your boots.

Great for my bunions, comfortable from the first day I got them, but the upper is not as sturdy as it should be.The first time I went hiking with them, I broke a toe while wearing these boots. In 25+ years of hiking, this has NEVER happened before with any of the boots I've owned. So just be aware that while super comfortable, they're probably not the best boot for serious hiking.

These boots are not waterproof as the name suggests! My feet get soaked just walking across dew soaked grass.

Not very comfortable to wear hiking for 5 miles at the lake. Too heavy and too bulky. I prefer sneakers. I will just wear these for camping and yardwork.

Way heavier than expected, but solid. The ankle part feels like it's not tall enough, and because of this, the tongue doesn't stay tucked in when you're walking. I wanted to love this boot (I'm usually a big fan of Merrells!), but it's just not that comfortable due to the weight and the tongue-popping-out issue (which actually puts pressure on a weird spot on the top of my foot). It does have some high points: it's actually waterproof and it fits. I usually wear a size 7.5 in street shoes, got this in an 8 and it's a great fit with a pair of med-weight hiking socks.

I'd give these a five if I could get more than 6 months out of them. They are the only boots that fit me and don't hurt my feet so I keep spending the money every 6 months. I've been wearing this boot for 30 years. When I bought my first pair they were called the "Light Hiker" then the Quest, and maybe a couple other names over the years. But it's the same boot. They used to last 18 months to 2 years a pair. Now they only last 6 months.

I love them. They do run small. I always wear a nine but needed a 9.5. First time use was at Raystown Lake in PA.

They seem to run smaller than my Merrill low tops. I wished I ordered 1/2 size larger.

I love the shoe version of this boot and hoped that this boot, being waterproof would be the perfect compliment to my quick drying shoe. Although extremely comfortable, yesterday, on my first hike in slushy conditions with this boot, my feet were soaked! I am disappointed. I still like the comfort but am going to see if some water repellent spray will help. Sorry Merrill, I really wanted to love these boots.

I was very excited when I got them but they didn't feel comfortable as I was expecting them to be. It felt like a bunch of clung on my feet. I had to return them.

I found that these were the most comfortable shoes out of everything I tried on, hands down. They didn't need any break in time, I was able to do multi night backpack trips right away. Downside is they aren't waterproof at all. I didn't know about the Gore Tex version and these were sold to me when I asked for a Waterproof hiking shoe. This is a huge bummer living in the Northwest. I've managed the last year but I will have to buy new shoes again this season.

Either the left shoe was more narrow than the right, or my left foot is larger (not likely). I have had problems with Merrell's fit in the past, but I hoped that a hiking shoe would be less restrictive. The arch was also too high and produced some post-hike pain in my knees and feet that I have not felt before. I missed the mark on this one.

This is my second pair of Moabs, and I love the fit and support especially for my wide feet. My newest pair, however, which I bought a year ago and have worn moderately, got completely soaked on my last backpacking trip. The first day out was wet and slushy, which is when I first noticed my feet were getting more and more wet, and then overnight everything froze--suffice to say, it did not make for a comfortable second day of hiking. I walked around all day in soggy, cold boots which gave me blisters like I've never seen. This was surprising as my first pair of moabs lasted 2 years, and I never had a problem with the waterproof lining. It made me wonder if Merrell might have changed something about the lining. Super bummed about this as I've loved my moabs, but figured it might save someone from quite an uncomfortable trip!

I've bought several pairs of low Moabs over the years and they are great. Very forgiving if you have foot/toe comfort issues. I do SO wish these were waterproof as advertised, but after one season they just aren't, not even for a walk in wet grass.

I have this boot in the non-waterproof version and I love it. Very comfortable and fits my skinny foot with narrow heel. Nice wide toe box. Both the waterproof and Goretex versions felt uncomfortably stiff so I had to return them. Ended up keeping the Solomon Vaya Blaze instead. It doesn't fit my narrow heel as well, but it's very comfortable and claims to be waterproof (no snow yet here).

I was disappointed to find that I paid the extra for a waterproof hiker, only to end up with wet feet.

I love the comfort of this shoe. I bought them for exploring Wisconsin's waterfalls and walking through marsh land. They are great for walking on slippery rocks and rough terrain. After having them for only 5 months, they are no longer waterproof. My feet get soaked walking through fields of wet grass. I'm not sure the life of the shoe, so maybe I've outworn the waterproofing on them. They sure still feel great!
