I tried 5 different pairs of hiking shoes over the last few days. I normally would have gone through the trial at brick and mortar hiking shoe store, but due to the Coronavirus lock-down I took advantage of Zappos excellent return policy. Thank you Zappos! Based on my trial, I found these to be the most comfortable out of the bunch. It still feels like "a lot of shoe" on your foot, but the material is soft and cushy, and overall very comfy. My whole foot and ankle feels supported and protected, while the shoe has a roomy toe box.

Fit well, solid shoe, looks like good traction. However the very slight foot drop (as opposed to zero drop) pushed more weight on my forefoot--I have metatarsal pain and mortons neuroma, so this doesn't work for me. Even without that though, the shoe is rather heavy. Wanted to keep but am returning

I was really hoping these would work for me, but they are going back. For the past few years my go-to hiking boot has been the Keen Targhee II Mid WP, which fit right out of the box. Unfortunately, the quality of the Keen boot leaves a lot to be desired and the soles started to separate from the boot. This happened on 3 pair of mine and 2 pair of my husband’s, so we are both trying to find a replacement brand. Both of us need a wider toe box.

Have worn Merrell Moabs for more than 10 years and have them in varying degrees of wear from the garage to the camper. These are my first ankle waterproof from Merrell. The sizing is different with these and I had to return my normal 8.5 for a 9. The half size up not just improved the length, but also added just enough width to the toe box. I don't like heavy socks with hikers, and I have low volume feet, so the width may be tight for those with normal feet who like thick socks. Arch support and heal cup is what makes me a Merrell fan. Waterproof claim hasn't been tested. I ordered these after hiking in flooded out ravines where my favorite Ariat waterproof boots lacked the tread for slippery clay, wet leaves, and flood flotsam.

Well i looked for a WIDE in this shoe and color EVERYWHERE. Nada. So i kept the mediums i ordered. Fine if i wear a thin sock. Thicker and my toes go numb. Other than the width issue, LOVE the boot. Supportive, Light, Cushie and PRETTY!;-)

I have wide, flat feet and Zappos really helps me find shoes that fit between customer reviews and the easy return policy. I have had this particular shoe for about 2 years and while the outside is still clean and in good shape, the insides are getting worn. I was afraid the company may have made adjustments to the shoe, but as of my initial fitting they seem to fit well. Time will tell.

These shoes were an amazing fit, but I was very disappointed that the rubber piece that comes up over the toe area separated on the first hike!

My shoe size is sometimes a 10W and sometimes a 10 1/2 W. For hiking and athletic shoes I usually size up to an 11W and that's what I ordered. At first I wore these boots mostly on level hikes and I didn't have any problems. But when I did a steeper hike I had serious problems. My feet were banging into the ends of these shoes for the entire descent and I ended up losing a toenail and developing Morton's neuroma. Support was great, and my feet stayed dry even when I was standing in a couple of inches of water so no complaints there. I thought there was really good grip on the trails. I just have a giant foot and Merrell doesn't make a size that works for me. Too bad, because for a hiking boot this looks pretty good (I got the granite). BTW, the same size in the Merrell Moab 2 Vent hiking shoe feels much roomier although I haven't tried it on a steep trail.

Initially I loved these hiking boots, they were very comfortable in the house and through the airport. But when I got to the trail and started climbing over rocks a bit they quickly became very uncomfortable. There is a seem where two fabrics meet right over my Achilles tendon that pinched tightly whenever I stepped on uneven ground. I tried adjusting the laces but couldn't find a way to relieve the pressure. I was pretty disappointed in this and hope they've fixed this design flaw. Otherwise worked great.

I have average feet, 8.5-9 medium width. In running shoes I tend to pronate mildly. I was excited to put on these shoes, but immediately felt like my ankles were being pushed towards my instep. It was visible to my sister when I asked her how they looked. It was very uncomfortable and I tried tying the laces with different tensions to pull my ankle straight. Helped, but still wasn't a great fit and when I tried to tie them up a second time the same way I couldn't find the "sweet spot". Returing these and going to try another boot.

These shoes look amazing, but I found them uncomfortable. Definitely order up 1/2 size. Even without hiking socks these were too snug. I may try them again in a different size. They are very stiff, but maybe that is what these boots are like until they're broken in. Returning these, but may try in a bigger size at some point.

Ive been wearing the seen for years and need to replace. Wanted to love these as they seem to have great support however the arch hits my foot closer to my heel, very uncomfortable.
I've had several pairs of Merrels but this one just didn't make the cut.

After wearing these around the house for a little while, I decided they are not for me. The way the toe box is shaped rubs awkwardly against the outside of my big toes. Had I tried to walk (never mind hike) anywhere, I would have picked up a pair of blisters. I don't know that a larger size would fix the issue - only narrower toes. These are being returned.

After just a few months of light use, these boots started leaking at the ball of the foot. Very disappointing! The company I bought them from replaced them with another pair, but those leaked too, and they are useless for walking in anything other than completely dry conditions . There is definitely a problem with the design or manufacture of this boot.

Very poor fitting boot. The arch support seems like it’s in the wrong place. Instead of being in the arch of my foot, it’s closer to the heel and feels awful to even walk around the house. This, even though the rest of the boot fits perfectly. Disappointing because the style is great and I would have loved to keep these. Returning!

I am deeply sad, because this proved to be the final set of Merrells I will buy. Anything in their Waterproof range has changed the lasts on the shoe mold, and they are too small. I wear a size 11, so I am already at the top of their range. I have another set of lightweight summer ones, not waterproof, that are fine, and size 11 in several other brands, all of which fit. Merrell has done something to their sizing, and now I can't wear their proper hiking shoes anymore. Everyone says to order a half size up in their hiking shoes, but that seems like a major design flaw (why not just make them roomier to begin with,) and why on EARTH would you cut out a segment of purchasers by sizing them right out of your product? There are more and more women with size 11 feet these days. Highly, highly disappointed in Merrell. Not Zappos, they are delightful and very helpful. Just Merrell.
I'd also recommend:
Keen (they haven't abandoned larger footed women)

Disappointed again in Merrell one of my past favorite shoes for fit, support and no break in time. Arch supports remain in the wrong location. Very sad.
