No "hideaway" pockets. Great construction for rainy bike/moto rides.

I created a custom Tuck pack to carry my laptop while commuting. I selected water resistant materials, and they work quite well in keeping the contents dry. Also, the pack was comfortable during a few short day hikes.
Luckily, I did not have to take anything out of the pack in the field or during my commute as the black lining makes it virtually impossible to find anything without a flashlight. There was no option to select a different color lining material for this pack when ordering it, and the images showed a more user-friendly grey material. This is a significant strike to the bag's usefulness.
For context, my wife and I have both created multiple custom Timbuk2 messengers in the past and we have always had the option to select a different color for the inside of the bag. I provided photos of the Tuck pack interior and my custom Classic messenger interior for comparison. It's clear which one is more useful when it comes to finding things. This should be a basic function of any bag which is why I am disappointed with my Tuck pack.

I mainly use this backpack for travel. I do like how easy it is to put in packing cubes and laptops but it's quite hard to get specific items out of the front pockets when your bag is stuffed.

I bought this for work but it's more like a kids' school bag (a very nice one though) than a work bag in terms of what it will hold and comfortable distance for traveling. Looks nice though and is being repurposed as as a school bag.

I bought this bag based on the website photos and description and on other Timbuk2 bags I've seen and owned, and sadly, it is not up to standard. It seems hastily and shoddily constructed and made with inferior materials. That being said, it's still a slim, sleek pack with dual side pockets and the customizable options are a definite plus. If you're looking for a slender pack without too many options and don't need the most rugged construction, this could be a good choice for you.

I ordered a custom backpack, which I LOVED because I could make it fully waterproof, and in the exact colors that I wanted. However, I didn't realize until the backpack arrived that custom bags do NOT come with the external zippered pockets! No outside pocket for keeping your wallet, keys, etc, no hidden pocket, and no zippered pocket for easily storing your laptop. This means that anytime I want to quickly grab my phone, wallet, keys, sunglasses, subway card, etc, I have to take off my bag, put in on the ground, unclip the roll-top cover, unroll it, and fish around in the dark, very deep internal pockets to find it. I even missed my subway once because of this inconvenience. Accessing these frequently-used items shouldn't be so hard, and the open, unzippered side pockets obviously aren't safe for storing them.
It's a HUGE bummer, especially because custom backpacks *cannot be returned.* I really wish that TimBuk2 would make VERY clear that the custom version of this bag have no zippered pockets. Now I'm stuck with this $100+ backpack that looks really great, but just isn't practical for anything but longer hikes where you access your stuff only occasionally.
Pretty disappointed. TimBuk2, please make this information much clearer to shoppers!

I just bought this backpack based on the assumption I wouldn't have any issues with my 16" Laptop. Lightweight, nice build overall. I bought Timbuk2 laptop messenger bag years ago but wanted a lightweight backpack. While the backpack itself will carry a 16" laptop if you go through the main bag entry, it won't allow you to slip the laptop through the back entry zipper for a laptop of that size. FYI, my laptop is Dimensions (H x W x D) - 0.70" x 14.13" x 9.99". The zipper opening entry is right at 10", but once you add in the ~0.7" that rectangle can't fit through the zipper. I know specs said fits 'most 16" laptops' and I saw the picture of the laptop being inserted through the back of the backpack so it gave the perception the zipper could also accommodate a laptop of that size. I could probably muscle it through but may rip the zipper forcing it through or damage laptop. Going through main bag access is fine, just a bummer the zipper doesn't fit my laptop needs.

Very simple, lightweight bag that fits well and is fairly roomy. I wish I had gotten a bag with a few more or bigger pockets for organizing my stuff, but would recommend it to others.

I've used this bag for a couple years now, and have had no complaints until now.
The clip for the roll top broke out of nowhere. I just looked one afternoon and one prongs on the male side was broken off.
I believe in repair over replace, so I ordered a new male clip from Timbuk2 online. ($5 for just the male clip and $6 shipping. Gotta love a $11 piece of plastic.)
After receiving the clip I found it was the wrong size, so I did more research on the site and found there is no replacement clip for this particular bag. I had to get creative by removing a female clip from another Timbuk2 I no longer use to make things work.
All of that said, if you want to be able to replace parts to keep the life of the bag, this won't be the one for you.

I ordered a custom bag and it's pretty nice but has one serious design flaw. The back zipper to access the laptop isn't waterproof. I can see daylight from the inside of the back after I close the zipper. I bought this to be a commuter bag and carry a laptop with me everyday. If it's raining, water would drain directly into the laptop pouch. What's the point? I will admit to having a bag problem, I own a lot of them, and this is the first one I've seen that doesn't have a waterproof zipper. It would be better without the zipper at all. An option for a different color inside the bag would also be worth paying more for but it wasn't available, just black making it difficult to find things.

The product is well made and comfortable. I give it 3 starts as the phone pocket in the back for easy access is completely useless as no phone will fit there, which is a shame as it was an important feature for me.

I wish it had more compartments on the inside. one large pocket isn't always ideal. I wish the back had more rigidity as well.

The review is about company's customer service. The bag is okay but a should have come with key clip.
To solve this problem, I went online to buy a clip from Timbuk and notice that my bag was 40% flash sale! I just got the bag same day in mail, and figured the company would honor the sale and not make me send the package back and waste time money and hurt the environment with shipping!!! Oh no, customer service threw the "policy" at me. Basically, indicating that I should return my bag and just buy it on flash sale. I had indicated that I was going to use the credit to get a key carbine. Did that encourage the company to do the right thing??? Nope. Take this review for what it is and you decide if you want to do business with them. I won't buy again.

I got the "flame" top and it's much more red than I saw online. This is my second Timbuk2 backpack and I like the build - very sturdy - but I'm p disappointed - the color combo looks strange and I would return it if I could (its custom). Just warning ppl the flame is Very red

This shoulder straps on this backpack are not designed for a slim frame. Backpack would be exceedingly uncomfortable with any weight in it.

Good bag, the roll-top, volume capacity and material are all great. Only three (3) things missing to make this a perfect bag.
1. An internal or external small zipper pocket area to keep smaller items would have been great. The hidden one on the side is too small for anything bigger than your keys. The organizational pockets provided inside between the laptop area and main area are somewhat useless.
2. More padding for the laptop area overall would be great.
3. The lack of a chess-strap, all backpacks should have one, (like the Rogue backpack) or at least provide the option to add them when ordering the bag.

However, considering its large carrying capacity (which I like), I really think the shoulder straps should be a wider, spaced farther apart at the top of the pack and more cushy than the current design to add to it comfort. Check out other more technical backpacks and you will see what I mean. Otherwise, I really do like the assortment of compartments and the roll top design.

This is my first backpack. It seems to be well made. I have carried about 30lbs of groceries in it. The shoulder straps cannot be adjusted when the pack is loaded. If I adjusted it so the pack was positioned high on my back, the shoulder straps were too narrow to put it on easily. I almost lost a dozen eggs trying to get it on in the grocery store. I was forced to pull on the shoulder straps with my hands to lift the pack sufficiently high when carrying a heavy load. I would recommend buying a generic sternum strap to pull the pack up after it's loaded, so you can free up your hands. Otherwise, I'm satisfied with my purchase, especially since I bought it at a deep discount due to what must have been a discontinued color.

I settled on this bag instead of the Swig (the Swig barely had any space inside for bulkier items, due to too many dividers and pockets). Generally I like it - looks great, seems pretty sturdy (I've owned it for 2 weeks). One minor flaw, which I was prepared for - the straps get twisted up really easily due to the webbing attachment points. I knew the straps were pretty chintzy, it is a pretty inexpensive bag. But the big flaw is a lack of small pocket for random smaller items. The sneaky stash pocket in the side is nice, but not easily accessible and really too small for much use. One zippered pocket would make this thing closer to five stars.

Great looking bag, I saw it and was intrigued right away. Shopping online has some risks, you can't ever tell how a product truly feels. When it arrived, I noticed the strap padding was sub par as well as the back. The top of the bag comes undone after rolling and buckling, I added two magnets to lick into place. Positives, the large dude zipper that allows quick access to my laptop. This bag is okay but could be better we some improvements.

I wish it had one more seperation in the main compartment. Imo it should be at the front of the big compartment and not too big, so the big cavity can still be used for big stuff. Also id like the small compartments next to the pen holder, to have some sort of closing mechanism and to reach down further. Hmm come to think of it, I also would like the compartments on the side to go further up or have a string with which you can pull the opening tight, since my already small watterbottle is on the verge of falling out, so I have to keep it in the main cavity. regards

I think my new backpack looks great. It's just not what I was going for color-wise.
The reason that I didn't give 5-stars is because how the reflective-black is represented on the site. What you see on the site isn't really what you get. It is a texturized black and ends up looking grey from every angle. It doesn't look awful by any means but it was out of line with my expectations and what I thought I was buying. Considering customers can't return this item Timbuk2 really needs to make sure colors are accurately represented on the site. I chose to go with reflective on the sides for when I am walking home at night. The utility is undeniable, I just wish it was more accurately represented on the site. If I could, I would likely return this item and opted to have the sides "real black" and then the top roll be reflective since I had that as grey anyway.
At any rate, thanks Timbuk2. Ultimately, I like my new backpack but I am soured by the result of the reflective material and has left me a bit disappointed to not get what I asked for in a custom order.
In the photos I have posted what I got and what I thought I was getting.

This pack has some nice features and is pretty roomy. But considering its ample size and the amount of stuff you could put into it, the shoulder straps are quite flimsy and inadequate to carrying much weight comfortably. It would benefit from sturdier straps and a tuck-away hip belt to help carry the load (e.g. laptop, lunch, raincoat, water bottle and all the other miscellany of commuting).

This was a good first, "proper" bag that I invested into.
PROS:
Sleek look. Roll-top functionality was great, especially if you're adjusting to whatever the contents were inside the backpack. Minimal and stylish. Woohoo! Took it to Italy for 2 months and it survived as well.
CONS:
The laptop sleeve is, just, a sleeve. Just material. No padding. And it goes straight to the bottom of the backpack. No suspension. Which means, if you drop your backpack at the end of a long day, your laptop could be damaged. Watch out! Over time, the laptop sleeve (due to the weight of the laptop) will be loose and I've found it will droop over. It fit my MacBook Pro 15inch + it had a plastic case on it, so you don't have to worry about that. I wish the inside of the bag was a different colour though. Felt like I was looking into darkness, trying to find my stuff.
Not enough pockets and inside organisation. Just a sleeve for some small papers and a couple of pen holders. Your things will rustle around as you move. I wish I had more pockets to put notebooks in so I knew where, exactly, my things were. The outside side pocket is big and massive, but no organisation in there. Just another space. There is also a small, secret pocket on the back. This was what sold me for this bag originally. Easy for keys and cards if you're wanting to get those out discreetly.

Bag clip broke but there is no way to replace as those clips are not available. Also not able to replace it with any other clip as you would have to cut the strap off to be able to remove the broken part.
