They are snug but not tight. My left ankle is weak for injury and these shoes provide stability and comfort. Agree with another review, however, that laces could use a few inches.

I bought these specifically for when I went to Ireland and Scotland this past September and October. I knew I would be walking on rocky coasts and wanted to have the best stability possible. And these hikers produced! I walked and hiked over 800,000 steps in those 7 weeks. Over mountains, rocky beaches, through cow pastures and bogs. These boots were so comfortable that I ended up wearing them most every day.

I bought these shoes in October last year for a trip to Israel that involved all-day walking/climbing...and they did not disappoint! The padding and cushioning helped me get through each day without sores and made the journey a comfortable one on my feet, legs, and knees. I have high arch so added an insole and my feet were in "heaven" each day! I highly recommend them!

I love this hiking shoes and they did very well on uneven terrain with amazing comfort. I would love to have them in a "fresh Foam" latest version but I am not certain if making this all terrain boot able to do this when need of a sturdier show is required.

Even though I intend to use them for hiking, the first time I wore them was to walk 5Ks across town in a snowstorm, and they are definitely the most comfortable boots I for walking any distance in that I own. And no break-in required. I will definitely purchase again, if I get the chance before they get "improved" to the point of being unwearable. One suggestion for potential buyers: when I ordered, my normal size was out of stock, so I went up 1/2 size in length and 1 width measurement, and this turned out to be the perfect size for me. I was determined to get a pair because I had read how great they were for mild-to-moderate pronators like myself and figured I could make them fit with extra insoles, socks, etc., but there was no need.

As is indicated by the review headline, I have owned this shoe before in an earlier version. It is a great shoe for hiking in the woods or for sloppy days on the streets. This updated version is as good as the previous one. It is true to size, a little higher than the other but that is appreciated as it provides good ankle support, is waterproof and comfortable for all day wear. I like that I can get it in a 2A. That is so very hard to find in a hiking boot. I would recommend.

The fit is perfect! Enough room to move my toes but my feet aren't swimming or being strangled. My orthotic inserts fit great. My feet were warm and dry after walking the dog through the lake that the parking lot turns into when it rains. I have walking issues from a stroke. These shoes sort of force my foot to step properly, it has been a long time.

I train and field trial my Labrador Retriever so I'm outside in all types of weather and varied terrains. I love these boots because they are waterproof and extremely comfortable! I bought the brown ones first and am trying the dark gray ones now.

This boot runs small. The shoe strings are so short that one can hardly tie them. This was mentioned in earlier reviews, so it is surprising that NB has not solved this issue. Also, New Balance gives excellent customer service. Over it is an excellent boot.

First time Hiker in Utah. Needed hiking shoes ASAP. Only Wore the shoes for a few hours a few days before the trip. I’m usually a 10.5 medium to narrow in NB Shoes. These boots are amazing! My feet were warm and felt secure with traction on the rocks and gravel. I wore one pair of wool socks the first hike and to pairs the second to decrease chance for blisters. No blisters!!!

These are great. I wear them all year, even in summer. I have bunions and wear orthotics. These shoes also have anti-roll in the heal. I have worn both the blue and brown pair. I prefer the blue. The brown are suede, the blue are smooth leather. I walk at least 2 miles everyday. Theses shoes have last me about 1.5 years. The bottoms usually wear out before the tops. I haven't even had to replace a single pair of shoe laces. I wear a size 12W women's. I have been tempted to try something different. Wearing the same style of shoes for so long does get kinda boring. But these work! I am afraid if I tried something new and they didn't work, I would end up buying these anyway. I am so happy that New Balance has continued to make these boots and has not changed much except just make them better. In the summer, I just wear lighter weight socks. In the winter, more wool - cotton combo socks. So if you doubt about the cost of these boots. They are well worth it, at least for me. They keep my feet from hurting and I can stay active.

The 2A fits my narrow feet perfectly. Gives good support and my orthotic fits inside with no trouble.

Trying to find narrow width hiking boots is nearly impossible. (I think there are only 3 companies in the world that make them.) Have used these for mountain hiking & dog walking. Nice looking, comfortable right out of the box & very durable.

These boots are well made, but what distinguishes them from other boots is the fit. They are sung at the heel with a roomy toe box so I can anchor my heels firmly in place and and still have room for my toes. On a steep descent my feet stay where they are supposed to and my toes don't get crushed.

I have tarsal tunnel and have found that the quality of the workmanship increases my ability to continue walking throughout my life. Originally my doctor recommended New Balance shoes but now it is I who recommend them to any and all. Thank you for your dedication.

I need an extra wide 2E woman's boot so that there is no pressure on the neuroma in my foot. New Balance is the only brand that I have found that has a boot that has this width in the toe box, and still has a normal (not too big) heel pocket. I wear these boots almost every day for walking with my dogs and, though I wish I could say that they last forever, I have to replace them after about 18 months, because the stitching begins to give way in the boot where the boot bends during normal walking (near the back edge of the toe box). I am in dread of the day when New Balance stops making these!
