Looks better in person. Don’t overlook that the black ones are (slightly) insulated. Not enough stability (although more than the 989’s). I’m still over pronating ever with custom orthotics. Not slip-resistant for the workplace.

I wear size 10 in 5E width in New Balance running shoes, but the MW1400v1 in size 11-6E seemed no longer and too narrow in the toe box, tapering in uncomfortably on both sides of my toes. Merrill’s wide boots, for example, have a more rounded toe box and fit my wide feet better even though they are only 2E width. I wish New Balance did as good a job with hiking boots as they do with running shoes.

I have wide feel and high insteps. Thus, while providing excellent waterproofing, the tongue-fastened-to-upper approach also makes entry very difficult for high-instep folks to "get in". Also, even though I specified EEEEEE width, this model runs narrow, and was therefore unacceptable.

I was surprised because I have bought other New Balance shoes and found the sizing to be as described.

For a very wide shoe this wound up cramping my foot. Chinese foot patterns strike again!

I ordered a size 11 4E which is my normal size. These were way too small for my smaller foot, and I couldn't get it on my larger foot. While they looked good, the size was so far off, I returned them and am looking for a different boot.

The toe and heel box were perfect for me, however, the seams in the footbed were excessive and painful.

The boots are well made and appear to be from good materials. NB still has a problem with sizing. I have a wide foot and take from 3E to 4E in all my boots and shoes. I bought these in a 6E, and they're still too snug. I'm not going to send them back because I think I can break them to a comfortable state. This shouldn't be necessary, though. Additionally I see that they were made in Viet Nam. I wouldn't have bought them if I had known that.

I ordered these shoes in 4E because lately my 2E shoes, from another manufacturer, where starting to feel a shade too narrow. However when I got these shoes, although they were marked 4E, they measured out to be exactly the same width as my 2E shoes. In spite of that I wore them for a while around the house to see if they were somehow more comfortable. They were more 'cushiony' than my other shoes, and didn't feel bad. I still felt like I would send them back even though there was no packing slip with return labels. Then I made my mistake. While wearing them around the house, my dog decided it was time for a walk, and I forgot to change in my older shoes and wore them outside. It was a rainy day and I got mud on them. So now I'm stuck with some nice, but not very wide shoes. I even found a site that showed the standard US widths of various sized shoes, and no, they didn't measure near what a 4E shoe should be. So I'll keep them, and when my budget allows I'll try to find another pair of hiking shoes that are as wide as they claim to be. I think though, that I'll go to a shoe store, if I can find one around here that sells the kind I want.

These are the first of three pairs of New Balance senakers that I have had to return. The only shoes/sneakers that have ever fit me in these past years were New Balance 8.5 EE, and Rockport 8.5 EE. The New Balance no longer fit. They seem cut a full size smaller and they are uncomfortable. I just orderered a 4th pair, diffrent style, in my size and I'll see. If that doesn't fit I'll try one size eihter bigger or wider. Hopefully one pair will work out. I have never returned a pair of these walking sneakers in all these years. I hope it works out but it's not looking good!! Maybe a new company has bought them or they have been totally redesigned. Who knows--they are not the same!!

No traction on hills in snow or slush. Too bad because I live in a hilly northern city. Otherwise they're the best boots (or even shoes) I've ever worn as far as comfort, fit, warm, waterproof, sturdy and stable. I wore them through last winter (with cleats on them) and they still feel like new. I suppose outsoles are like tires, you can't have both traction and the smoothest ride.

Just put my fourth pair of 1400s into service. The last three pairs have all had the heel come unglued . New balance has been real good about replacing my shoes, and I really like them or I wouldn't go to all this trouble. I just can't believe I'm the only one this has happened to.

I recently purchase the NB 928v3 which fit perfectly. I then ordered a pair of 1400v1 in the same size and width and they are significantly smaller in both length and width. I will reorder a larger and wider pair and hope that works. Disappointing that there is such a difference in two shoes having relatively the same purpose.

I have had this shoe before and need a new pair. I think I have owned at least three previous models of this boot. However, this version is definitely being made cheeper than the previous models. The upper two hooks for the lace were space wrong in my opinion. Hard to lace, really had to work to get the lace in the top hook because the space seemed too close. Also, the laces were too short, hard to tie. Construction seemed of a lower quality than others boots I have looked at in this price range. Too bad, really liked previous models of this boot. I returned them.

I wear a size 15 narrow shoe so I was looking forward to this shoe. Unfortunately they feel like a size 14.

Unlike most New Balance shoes this model does not fit. I wear size 14, 2W and this pair is too short and narrow in the toe box. I have had this problem with a few other NB models, but not most of them. For the price it would have been very good value--as are most NB models. I've been wearing a pair of NB hiking boots for years and they are terrific value and very comfortable and durable. I'm a fan, but disappointed this time. The shoes will be returned.

Every single other New Balance shoe fits me beautifully in 4E. This was the exception. I even tried the 6E to no avail. If you have wife feet, this may not work for you.

This is the worst designed shoe I've ever worn. The hooks for the laces are on the sides of the shoe, guaranteeing that they will catch the shoelace loop of the adjacent shoe and trip me. I've had to tuck my loops under the criss-cross ties, but doing so tends to loosen the lace over time; and sometimes the loop works loose and I trip anyway. The design that this replaced was perfect (model 1569BR). Why did you have to replace it? I need new shoes and I'm disappointed to see that you haven't abandoned this model and returned to something more functional. Also, the width is narrower than my other 2E New Balance shoe, pinching my toes.

Solid traction, firm footbed, lace higher than typical trail runners...all good things. They fit like my NB running shoes. HOWEVER, it rained 10 days into the Colorado Trail. Water ran down my legs into the boot. After two days, they were still not dry. I started developing blisters and mid-hike had to replace the boots with a different brand. These would be great boots if NB would take out the Gore-Tex. A waterproof hiking boot may sound great on paper...but its much better to let your feet dry quickly--rather than swelter in a boot designed not to transfer water (in or out).

Although shoes were correct fit (6E) the placement of shoelace eyelets created a problem at the toe area of my foot and I returned them
